A breaker or fuse is highly recommended. We haven't had any problems, but better safe than sorry. - Capt Mike

That is a debate that will rage on. An electric reel is a specific tool for a specific fishery, it is nearly impossible to effectively deep drop for swords in 1600-2000 feet of water, with 10+ pounds of lead and a raging 5 knot Gulf Stream current any other way. You may be able to drop once, but not over and over. Capt Mike

Yes, the LP S1200 is approx $4,000 w/o rod or line. Worth every penny if you're serious about daytime deep water swordfishing. - Capt Mike

Electric tackle is by no means adequate for every fishery, however in our region we fight strong currents, ultra deep water to 2000 ft, and heavy sash weights to 15 pounds. Unless you intend to do one drop, this gear is a must for daytiming. - Capt Mike

Yes, this reel is easily capable of reeling up 500 pound swordfish from 2000 feet.

You have to bring it in by hand lol!!! You can move the spool by hand if the motor goes out, takes a loooong time though.

do u guys use a circuit breaker for it? Is it necessary ?

What happens if some thing goes wrong with the motor or electrics when you have 1000 yards of line out?

That's a fair question--I don't see a "manual overide" but maybe there is a manual handle you can attach. Good question.

It's really great if you are "into" sitting on your soft behind, not straining your soft hands, keeping your shirt clean, not sweating--but wonder why a "sport fisherman" would even go out? Just to watch a machine reel in a fish, then say you "caught it"? Look at 3:05, the one guy looks kind of.....ashamed. And the other guy with the backwards hat--all tuckered out. Pretty sad I must say. But I hear you when you talk about great depth, and a LOT of weight, I'm just saying it is not really sport fishing.

Your debate is one that has raged on for decades with no end in sight. Question for you before we go any further, have to attempted/experienced daytime swordfishing in 1800 feet with 12 pounds of lead?
