More Than A Bullet is a documentary that focuses on life in high crime areas on the south side of Chicago. MTAB sheds light on the city in a way we don't usually see in the media. Created & Produced by Nick Davis Directed by Evan Staley
Nick good effort. I'm a Chicago Black Man on the Southside. What we don't address is ignorant parents steadily having kids, and they can't take care of the ones they already got. And we as Black People need to take advantage of whatever opportunity comes our way and run with it, no matter how small it is. For Youth it's Programs all over this City, but when we don't value work and education and getting a damn trade or something we show the world not trying to help ourselves and our young people. Black Men must lead the way by example for these young Black Boys.
This is real. You speak truth and it's sad that most of your race has no problem showing how filthy they can be. It's doing nothing but feeding the stereotype. Look up the channel "bloody chicago" and watch "Chicago's most violent neighborhoods #1" He does a phenomenal job explaining what you tried to put simply. You may very much enjoy the vid. Nice to see some blacks care enough to stand up and speak out, with truth.
Your comment is SO ignorant and all over the place. Speak for you and yours. Call your own parents and family out for their ignorance and whatever denigration they have contributed to our collective efforts of upward mobility; Nice to just blanket and condemn the ENTIRETY of the Chicago African American community and then the community as a whole to not taking advantage of programs; so what you have unintentionally revealed is that you and YOUR FAMILY have neglected to take advantage of such opportunities; if you HAVE then you just countered your own initial ignorant statement in that particular realm; So you are one of those who learned and heard NOTHING in the entire 43 minutes of time you wasted to watch this video and to hear what was imparted to you. When you look in the mirror today know that your kind of thinking is what influenced the necessity of this doc.
I'm not from the U.S., let alone Chicago. I'm having a hard time understanding why people glorify this lifestyle and brag about it. It's silly and will lead to one of two options: a young death or a prison sentence
A man walks out of his house on his way to work and sees this snail lying on his porch. So he picks it up and chucks it over the roof, into the back yard. Snail bounces off a rock, busts its shell up all to shit, and lands in the grass. Snail lies there, dying. But, the snail doesn't die, and after a while it can crawl again. And then one day, the snail up and heads back to the front of the house. Finally, after about a year, the little guy crawls back on the porch. Right then, the man walks out of his house on his way to work and sees this snail again. So he looks at it and he says, “What the f*ck's your problem?”
RU-vid Expert THE NEWS MEDIA GLORIFIED IT.NIGGHAZ IN CHICAGO,DON'T HAVE MOVIE PRODUCTION COORDINATORZ.THEY DIDN'T EVEN BUY THE GUNZ THAT THEY ARE POPPING OFF.YOU MOTHERFUCKERS CAN'T EVEN SEE THE FOREST FOR THE TREES STARING YOU IN THE FACE.
Ok so they didn't buy the guns but who told them to use it? They didn't bring the drugs in but who told them to use it and sell it? Excuses nobody trying to hear that shit. Its all about an individuals mindset if they want better for themselves.
I tell so many people about Chicago, its not what you see it's what the media wants you to see. Born and raised spent my first 18 years there and never got out. Joined the army and i've changed my life for the better. You have to be ambitious and want more.
+Amira Berry What do they say about Englewood? I lived in Englewood from about 12 till I left for the army at 19. It was bad as it is now and it's not like the 3rd world country there trying to make it seem. I witnessed shooting, dead bodies etc. But stuff like that don't happen every day I promise you.
Stephen Davis thank you for that information I'm starting a channel on savings people in Eaglewood and other parts around the world so thank you for the information it will be very useful to Ward's the channel have a great day
damn it's a mess. Generations of young men raised by single mothers with a lot of misguided anger and lack of guidance... nobody ever really talks about it on the news or anything
I lived on the Southside (a white man) for 6 years and it has this feeling in the air of complete hopelessness. There ARE opportunities to work legit, but the feeling of despair and the mentality of residents is something else. Hard to explain.
MR.scorp2u Parts of London are like that in the UK , it’s sad , they say it’s because there’s not enough jobs but a lot of the kids in UK are already living this lifestyle before they have even left school ! 14 years old and already on the back foot of society ! Your right it’s hard to explain .
It's an actual Spirit. It's a curse out in out ppl. But when I lived out south (63rd&St. Lawrence) I never seen or heard of ad many murders as I do up here on Howard and Paulina or Ashland and Jonquil ...and that's Northside!
@@preedestined1 funny my people lived on 63rd st Lawrence for years. I know it well.my grandma& aunts. I was outlawed there in my teen years. Infact i still got peeps over there. & on 6tray& MLK..
In Chicago, when a mother ask her child 2 go 2 the store for milk, bread or butter. That's is literally a life or death decision she has 2 make. She knows that it takes you 5minutes 2 get 2 the store and back but today it took 10minutes because you stopped 2 say wassup 2 your mans. Then you walk in your house and see your OG crying, And you look at your phone and see that you have 15 missed calls. Then ask her what's wrong. And she says I thought something happened. Then you realize that 10minutes you were gone must have felt like 2or3 days to her. I'm blessed to have made 20 December 7th, that don't happen everyday. Y'all pray for my hood and I'm gone pray for yall's. ( LOVE )
Some people don`t have the money or gas, to make it another ten miles or ten minutes. Live in South Chicago like I did and you may come to a literal understanding, of how rough it actually can be.
Leonard Frank MUSIC IS VIBRATIONZ,FREQUENCIES,THAT DEMONS TRAVELS ON TO ENTER YOUR.CUALQUIERA{WHAT EVER}YOUR LIVES.MUSIC WAS DESIGNED BY MEPHISTOPHELIAN.
Its a reflection yeah BUT if all those different gangs didn't get their own cameraman posting videos on youtube dissing other dead gangmembers and rival sets getting 1m+ views and shit it would've been that bad. chicagos murder rate was on a decline for the whole 2000s untill Keef blew up around 2011
Growing up in New York I admired all the gangster stories coming out of Chicago Al Capone... Frank Nitti.. Legs Diamond etc they were Italians killing mainly Italians nobody labeled them as hopeless people matter of fact they made movies about them and made them famous🤔
Bro I kno what u sayin but people did call em hopeless actually worse they was called monsters at the time n had the whole country shook keep in mind stories n people from old times always ends up glorified or seen as iconic the media these days tho fucked up doin biased shit
@@robw7676 Some of the Italian mafia for sure did everything that you said they didn't. Some of these guys genuinely give back to the community too. People are people there's no difference. The only differences between the Italian mafia and these guys, are the attitudes of police towards them, and exposure by the press.
Lmao u prolly lived in the good neighborhoods or white middle class suburbs and even if u didn't they wouldn't do anything to him cuz he white only the cops would cuz they will probably think he tryna buy drugs
these people say there are no opportunities in the South Side but opportunities left because of the violence, drugs and gangs. do you think someone is looking forward to risking their live to offer opportunities where life isn't valued, and people are killing, robbing and dealing drugs.
It isnt really about the drugs- but it is 100% ab drugs if that makes any fkn sense. Other people- in other areas also deal drugs- drug dealin is everywhere. But they do not behave this way.
And America iss bombing Nations, killing millions of ppl from other countries, going to war everyday, raping them and stealing there resources. Ur point???
Defense General there still wouldn’t be opportunity if there was no gangs or violence between black people because of our race so if we can’t get jobs because of stigma so if someone don’t wanna give me a job because of stigma why should i explain myself. I still need money so ima sell drugs and I need protection so ima join gang
The mentality is sad. I wish i could reach through this screen, grab them and shake some sense into them. All i see is dead young black men talking. I know alot of factors contribute but at some point you have to be conscience of it and make some changes.
These people take absolutely zero responsibility for their behavior or their community. Yet they somehow seem to think its someone else's responsibility to fix all the problems that they are causing. -Awful backward people who will murder each other then turn around and blame the world for not stopping them. Incredible.
NLMB doesnt originally mean 'never leave my brothers' even though they use that. It's literally a combination of the sets/gangs No Limit (NL) and Muskegon Boyz (MB) which formed 1 set/gang. That's NLMB and thats where the name came from
I lived in Chicago's south side near 63rd and Western for years. A lot of the After School programs, youth programs and career development programs have been de-funded in part for lack of interest and engagement. The men interviewed in this video assume that kids in Chicago are anxious to occupy their time academically but I don't know how true this is given the interest levels of these programs in the 90's and early 2000's Also, the Democrats have sunk Illinois into such great amount of financial debt there isn't as much money to mishandle anymore. Throwing money at a problem or a community, historically does not help. If it did, Chicago, Compton, and the Appalachian Mountains would be social utopias.
it starts with trying and I think that's what people forget. starts with you getting out of bed and making yourself want to do better or be different and not contributing to the problem.
They can keep killing them selves There to lazy to go out and get a job They rather kill and Rob Then there mothers are crying when there dead Well you raise them You knew Punks
@@abolishnwo3809 I remember G herbo said in an interview, " I guarantee standing on my block is more dangerous than being in the marines" I definitely believe that after seeing you comment that.
NEGUS MBARKA you make 0 sense. By your dumb fucking logic if whites didn’t exist you’d live in a perfect world. Fuck outta here with your bullshit you sick racist fuck
Same old Excuse: "We ain't got jobs...The North-side has more things than the South-side...The police don't like us...We're segregated on the South-side" Well, black people chase out the business. My family and I lived in an all-black neighborhood for five years. We moved out after our house was broken into three times, my family was constantly bullied. I call this self-segregation. Get your asses to work and respect the law and problem solved.
Tanna Young truth hurts i know. How many abortions did u get this year. U past your 5 child max to collect money now they charge to kill your black babies democrats kill black babies
I was born in the south side of Chicago. There are camps and things for kids to do. I am tired of hearing this lie that there is nothing to do. Now, these camps might not be as plentiful or offer as much as camps in other areas, but there ARE camps and low-cost/non-profit organizations. (You might have to get up a little earlier and catch the bus and/or have someone drop you off.) Furthermore, there are libraries and museums. There are Boys' and Girls' Clubs. Churches are offering programs. And, if you are part of a mega-church that is not offering anything, demand that it offer something since you are more than likely giving them so much of your money. I just googled programs in the South Side and there are plenty.
@Wealth Mining u say that, but u would've want any of them in your neighborhood tho 💯 from the outside looking in it seems easy to judge, but u have no idea or any understanding of how hard it is to live in Chicago 💯
born and raised here, and as an elder, please stop killing each other. run your own businesses, and own your block. only you will save you. disrespect gets you the bad mouth....
if I lived there I would go to work and the grocery store that's it! every other minute i'd be in the house saving money to move far away from there. All this crime and their still outside at night on street corners. not smart.
@@puddincup9879 No doubt. To some extent people are trapped by familiarity. The devil they know is less scary than the unknown. That said, yes, it is possible to just pack up the car, drive, see where you land and start over.
I was born in raised in chicago from the wild 100's altgeld gardens to Robert Taylor 41st and state all im saying is when u surrounded around poverty death thats what u adapt too because u trying to survive im just thankful to my mama before she passed away on the streets of chicago she sent me and my children away all my family still stay there i pray for them everyday but for the people who just witnessing this i seen it all my life and now that we have social media they can put out there pray for my city
i appreciate that there are subtitles. wth. blame everyone but your brothers and sisters and neighbors; keep voting for the same people that led to this disaster, and then admit to committing crimes but then blame others for purring you in jail. not looking like there is a hopeful solution ahead. sad.
@@adventuresofpyro9020 problem is they dont vote. And if they do its overwhelmingly for democrats. I dont like any politician, but if they voted for things like school choice and better police training and taking power away from police unions, they would be better off. Not to mention taking personal responsibility and stopping committing crimes. Have kids and stay with the mom. Marry that woman. And raise your kids to do better. You cant expect your kid to be productive if you got locked up and didnt take care of them.
When you blame gang on gang violence on the police lol When you blame getting a bad image from the media, but still rap about gang violence, drugs, and rape.
@Killin Sparker 😂😂😂 oh my god dude, are you ok. Did you have an ok childhood? Did you have parents that loved you and raised you right? I feel bad for anyone who has to bring you in public😂😂😂 like, whens the last time someone hugged you? I hope you have some friends that can show you they care about you... you need some booty man, you need some love, the way youre acting isnt how regular person acts. Do you need someone to talk to? You need some therapy dog..
Youre worried i stand up for people less fortunate than me?See my main worry is that youre calling people animal, and trash, like i dont know if you were beaten, or raped, neglected, or any other kind of trauma as a child but normal people dont do that. Like i hate humanity just as much as the next guy but you dont just say that shit naturally. Regular people people just dont act that way. I would strongly suggest you seek some professional help, it seems like youre projecting something.
@Aimee Webber I cleaned it up I typed it in this heat wave and yes I was being VERY sarcastic. I've been a victim of a thief. The police only arrest the ones that steal from corporations
I was on the South Side in 2014 for like 3 months. I'm from the D. I got robbed by some GDs over there, and although that wasn't cool, I don't hold that against the rest of the people of there. There was some good people there. I had some OG GD tell these young guys were gonna rob me when I was finished spending money with them, he was right. I should have listened to him. I hope you guys can fix your city man. I feel for ya. The D is fucked up too. This shit needs to change. Peace
Affordable housing? I saw a beautiful greystone in Englewood for $16,500, I saw a condo on the South Shore for $27,000, I guess the violence is something Else, but they should stop the violence, get any job, and buy up their own neighborhood,
Yeah ur right! They have SOO MANY opertunity's in the south in suprised there not all Rich and successfull😒 My nikka if they koud they woulda been did tht but kids cant even go outside and ride a bike how tf you think ppl finna get a well paying job? And buy up there neighborhood?? Wit wht? a Janitor's sallary? Nikka plz
Maybe GET OUT of the neighbourhood and move to where there is higher demand for labour and thus higher salaries? Maybe learn some skill or trade that's useful and makes you employable? E.g. a short 1 year course in programming. How hard can it be? If they really can't bear to sit in a classroom and learn, even seasonal work or warehouse work can pay pretty well. I did all of the above, starting from practically nothing (didn't go to high school, couldn't concentrate in primary school due to persistent bullying). Admittedly I'm white, but come on... they are in America, it's not like black people are < 1% of the population. There are enough black people (and decent white people) that they could get jobs if they would move. They have an enormous land-mass and diverse mega-cities within reach. Somebody please tell these people to THINK BIGGER, beyond their own tiny patch of earth.
here is another Example of someone controlling the narrative.. The Vicelords didn't start in Bridgeport.. that picture is somewhat correct at 20:18. the vicelords started in the north Lawndale area on 16th between Pulaski and kedzie avenue.. hints the name being the "holy city"
Barron Mccollum people link with people who know people who link with people who have trucks who link with people who have boats who link with people who have drugs. Do you really think Chicago residents need to have boats to intentionally bring drugs into the city??? Really???
@Native Jedi I've been here for 8 years and cannot wait to move in 6 weeks. Worst city I have ever lived in by far. This city is a corrupt excrement hole, and your pizza is the absolute worst in the world to boot.
Thanks for this. Really enlightened me and opened my eyes about Chicago. These guys feel the same way I feel about my hometown of Baltimore, it ain't all pretty but it's definitely not all bad. Every place has it's good and bad; it's ups and it's downs, but its the places we love and call home. And I believe the media's duty is to keep us informed enough to keep us in fear.
This documentary lacks logic on a level so impressive, you'd have to be willfully blind. The example by the man at 14 minutes. That the cops ain't helping cuz they're locking up dudes like they're animals, and people dying. If someone shoots another human being and kills them I would say they're already animal like enough. What would he propose just leaving the murderer out on the street. Already you can see that a big issue with a crime in Chicago is retributive justice. People don't let the cops do their jobs and their gangs kill rival gang members as retribution. And the cycle continues over and over again. The one thing that nobody wants to talk about, is the one thing that will actually ended this. Personal responsibility. All I heard is they they they, but nobody stood up and manned up to say it was me me me. Everyone's a victim, even when he's holding the pistol gun him down some innocent kid caught in the crossfire.
Nice to see our city people being able to talk for more than 30 seconds on a news outlet and really being heard for something other then a shooting down the block. This what the kids need to see, what the politicians need to see. It’s bigger than all that the news talks about.
What you mean, "there ain't no more programs, no more centers, no more basketball courts". Now all the youngsters have too look up to are the big homies? Wow that is what happens when products of the left depend on the left or Democratic Party for assistance in the poverty stricken areas. The young people of Chicago both Citizen and DACA need to understand that they have self will to administer that energy in doing something constructive for your future or destructive for your end, but do not blame society for your choice.
@Englewood Frank21 He sacrificed his life for America and was recognized for it. He didn't sacrificed his life in the streets gang-banging, and all the stupid shit that comes with that. Salute to a real soldier.
Isidro salas it’s not stupid shit in Chicago your born into it, if you’ve never been to Chicago don’t say shit simple, either you with the gang in your area or your against them, people get shot while riding bikes it’s crazy it’s literally hell on earth in Chicago stop talking about it idk why these veterans or soldiers talking shit, Chicago has went through so much it’s more dangerous in Chicago, either kill or be killed simple as that.
The Lord Jesus can set you free...ask Him to come into your heart and be your Lord and Savior... He will show you amazing things, and real Love, real power.
There is no one solution for an easy fix. But, with that being said, we all have more opportunity than ever. Every race and gender. Yes, some people have advantages or disadvantages, but we all have opportunity. School is the easiest way to get you out of bad situations. Everybody has the ability to get good grades, which in turn can help create more opportunities through college, etc. Also, any job can be the start in which you can succeed. For example, you start as a cashier at a fast food restaurant. Work hard to become the full time cashier. Then work hard to become the shift supervisor. Then work hard to manage the restaurant and then on to be the district manager. You don’t even have to stay in that industry, but look at the resume you’ve created. If you’re happy at any of those positions, then you have the choice to stay there. If you want to go higher, you have the opportunity for that too. It affords you the opportunity to do whatever you want. The point is, hard work trumps everything. Go get what you want.
THEY CANNOT FIX WHAT THEY DON'T KNOW IS BROKEN. This is a realization I had a while back about the plights (GENERATIONAL PLIGHTS) that have plagued our underserved in the African American community. First off I wanna say Big Ups to the producers and contributers to this documentary. It was very necessary. Thank You for letting US SPEAK FOR OURSELVES. FOR A CHANGE. I'm actually sitting in my crib right over here on one of these blocks listed in this documentary (TERROR TOWN) so that was pretty weird lol but again, Necessary. Most of the things said in this documentary from the school situation to the limited resource situation and shout out to my man's over at U.of C. for droppin that knowledge on them about how much hasn't changed as far as eradicating barriers over in these communities. Same shit I say everyday. Some people hear me and appreciate what I'm saying and some people are just so stuck in their own personal misinformed perception that they cain't receive what I'm tryna break down to em. But I caint quit the mission just because a few don't get it. Respect to all participants. And never mind my chopped vocabulary lol. No apologies there. 💯That's ME.
Young man pull your pants up. STOP... The foul disrespecting language. Return to the Creator of your soul. Honor your parents. Remember the sick, elderly and the fatherless children. Be the protector. Consider you want to LIVE. so in order to LIVE..... You must let LIVE. ...
Our black people need to wake up, stop the madness the future doesn't look good for us, stop putting and glorifying the negativity put your heads together and teach the Young a positive message we don't need to kill each other we need to build each other may God bless
Yes! WE gotta Gang of GOOD Shit..going On...in The SOUTH SIDE!!!!!!! ❤Stay Focused! And Real Talk..IF some OF these Young bulls...had A HARD WORKING Strong Loving Momma like ME!!! They Wouldn't need to Worry bout NO damn Gang...except The Love For The Next MAN no Fu shit. I'm Official 💅✊🙏
Joshua Bobbitt I had two friends literally argue and almost getting into a fight back one felt Englewood was more ghetto than any project and the other that Englewood was less ghetto and the projects is safer. When your born into a slum you do not notice that you live in a slum until you move somewhere thats worse. As someone who literally stayed during a white flight and years after on 79th it was easy for me to see that the area went to hell but those coming in even those causing chaos thought the area was better from where they came from.
Douglas Dishroon did you not watch the video moron? Jobs were shipped out of Chicago in the 1960s slowly destroying the black community. Educate yourself idiot!
Is NOT that they dont have no jobs, is just not the jobs they want. You're never going to start at the top. They need to stop making excuses. The reality is, is not cool to work, but it's cool to hold a gun an sell drugs, and that's what they go for. And if you can find a job you want just move out the damn state.
There are people that willing to help make cities like Chicago a better place to live, But the main issue is Trust no one trust anyone these days. You can go in the rough neighborhoods with good intentions to help people and still get murdered. The Good Samaritans aren't taking no chances in places like this that are filled with none stop gun violence day in and day out.the studios still aren't a safe haven for rappers that are trying to find a way out, dudes still get down in the studio. Just like here in Atlanta a few years ago there was several studio shootings and a murder. The violence won't stop no time soon it's sad to say that
Retired 2020 are you joking? Curious of what Obama did over the 8 years for his hometown of Chicago because all I've seen is more addicts more fentanyl and more shootings
Mannnn this was a great documentary. It's motivated my essence to projectand display myself with a better attitude towards my city and fellow melaninated family!
Be the change you wanna see. Remove yourself from that environment, do better for yourself and be a role model for others. Just because programs exist doesn't mean ppl are taking advantage of them. We're quick to blame others but we need to take accountability of our own actions. Either u want to do better or u don't. Were u are in life speaks of ur character & the decisions that ur making.
There's plenty of one stop shopping spots in Chiraq, combination drive thru liquor store/abortion clinic/recording studio/funeral parlor/gun shops that sell a lil crack in the back! lmao Get you coming n going!
Ya know what i agree with alot of what these guys are saying. I am not going to say i understand anything about this life because i dont, what i can see and what i think is very clear is that these communities have been failed by their government local and federal. They are also failing themselves , blaming wont change anything... you have to change your own life. There is alot of beauty and opportunity in america . I dont care if i had to take my last dollars to leave this area i would in a snap. It sounds like if you choose to stay you are choosing a life of violence against a life of opportunity and prosperity .you dont need killers you need a bus ticket and a willingness to see a better life, believe me its out there.
This breaks my heart. If only someone would’ve taught, told, and showed them they are Kings. And they way they’re carrying them selves isn’t in accordance with who and what they are.
I was born in Chicago in cook county and I thank my parents they moved us out when I was about 7 years old, I now am a retired nurse and thank god every day I didn't have to grow up in that atmosphere.
Much beauty. And jojo & Roosevelt has a point. We who are from it dont use those negative names like chiraq, Terrortown etc. Thats just people who are Of the city and negative media. We Ran positive programs 3 yrs straight without violence, and it was the corrupt CPD trying to shut us down. So they got a agenda to keep violence going. Funding for programs been cut off long ago.. I marched them same streets and knocked on doors of greedy execs, and greedy politicians BLOODSUCKING along with the biggest city GANG CPD. so RUN that bs to somebody who aint been out here in this WAR..go watch movie " Blackhawk down" and understand this is done from Mogadishu to South Chicago.. Bleed em dry, cause draught and blame the natives who just wanna eat. Much love to JoJo and the one's making a difference.. United in peace YAWL..1 LOVE..
Bro you crazy?? The damn rats run in the alleys like cats!! And that's right down by state. And in winter with that dirty ass snow!! Man you smokin the cronic???
Problem is most black teenagers in southside of Chicago want to be A rapper they they want to be like offset finish school get a job become a cop and stop being the victim
As a black man watching this I’m ashamed. They did so much blaming. Yes the city is not the safest, however, the fucking excuses on the people’s part. Y’all got us looking like fucking idiots. And not just Chicago all of these cities.
Nothing matters more then chicago , the ending was the best. Dude was speaking truth. It's hard to put into words what the city of chicago should do. Or what the right path to take is. So I applaud him for coming up with a answer that hits home with me.
ramp622 They should tear it down. At this point all the buildings are old and over priced most of the wealthy people and people who have trades are leaving the city like Detroit. Chicago is literally turning into another modern day ruin
