I AM an electrician and own the same excellent kayak. I not only coat my “plugs” and “receptacles”, I fill the receptacle cavity with dielectric grease so when I plug the male end in, the amount of grease won’t allow water intrusion.

Tough one to lose at the beach! I remember surf fishing for stripers near Mussel Rock when we lived up there. Throwing hardbaits toward the baitballs the stripers were chasing to the surface. Sometimes the action was really good!

Adam, red is positive black is negative. You should stagger the splices so they aren’t side by side. Put a heat shrink on each splice so water can’t get in between the wires. And like the others said put dielectric grease on the plug to help prevent corrosion. Thanks for teaching me how to surf fish.

Off the subject but when we fished Torrey Pines in the 60s at night with plus tides we caught many big corbina over 6 pounds, and some right at 8 pounds. There were alot of them back then.

Here in the Northeast, many of us use the blurple color at night. Also, we favor 9' to 11' surf rods with a lot of backbone for big fish and casting distance. I feel light tackle is to "bendy" for rough surf and is harder to keep them pinned in the turbulent waters and takes longer to land the fish.

If you want a little more power for lights you can get a inverter for your drill batteries to power bigger lights or more angles.

Like the idea that you are adding the extra layer of heat shrink. Part that is a pain is replacing year after year due to corrasion. Try to use a thin coat of dielectric grease on the plug part.. or for that matter any other connections. I'd even wrap most in electrical tape for the over kill. Granted the yearly cost isn't much but might be able to stretch it out to 3 years if done right. Check with a few marine more or boating pros and might get a better idea. ~ will be nice to see the 40 inch stripper on the channel..that would be fun.
