You can use other brands, but I would get a cell with a higher discharge rating than that. If I'm not mistaken the obrtronic has an NCR18650B inside it which is rated at 4.87amp max continuous discharge. I'd get one rated for at least 8 amps continuous like LG18650MJ1 3500ma or Keeppower 3500ma which has a Sanyo NCR18650GA cell but is protected. They can both handle 10 amps.
AdventureSportFlashlights Do you have a particular supplier you like for the 18650 batteries? Seems like their are a lot of frauds online and I don't want to fall into the cheap battery trap.
Landon, I like illumn.com, I've never got a fake from them. Mountain electronics is good. When the GT is for sale batteries will also be offered along with it which I'm sure have been vetted by BLF.
AdventureSportFlashlights hi, I'm looking for the most powerful flashlight I can get under $150 or close to it. I will mostly use it for spotting wildlife outdoors. the main distances will be from about 50m to as far as it will go I'm hoping to be able to make out a raccoon at 400m at least. i really don't need any flood lighting out of this light, mainly spotlighting. I don't need a super long battery life but above 30 minutes on high would be nice multiple power levels would be appreciated and something rechargeable would be great! any suggestions you could give me would be awesome!!
I just got my L16 today ,all I can say is holy crap !! What a freight train of light ,I put it up against my top of the line stream light stinger I gave it to my wife ,it was your video that prompted me to get it thanks !!
I love Matt's videos. He is one of the best flashlight reviewers on RU-vid. I just wish that more flashlight reviewers would include the color rendering index in their videos.
I own the Nitecore P30. Your light looks good! The P30 has a 700 yard throw, I take it hunting with me. But your L16 looks legit when you light up the backyard. Thanks for the video post.
Matt i Never Saw anyone review any product in such detail, and Flawless brake down of product. At the very end , you left me thinking i couldn't live without this flashlight. Now only thing that's left is go get my credit card.
HEy, lads. There is a way to upgrade L16 to use 21700 (but only for those who also has L30) - just change body of L16 to one from L30 - they are interchangable. Its working.
I just got the Acebeam, and tried it out with a diffuser from my Armytek Predator .Wow! Great dual purpose light now.Great flood and thrower.Only downside is that is hard to find the side switch by feel .
Bought this the day it came out. It's a great flashlight. Excellent build quality, good ui and great throw. There's only one problem..I need more throw. I need 800 metres of throw in my pocket because idk tbh.
Many are complaining on how fast it gets hot. You don't need 2000 lumens all the time. The 150 lumens is enough for indoors while the 500 and 1000 lumens is also enough for outdoors. You will just need that 2000 lumens if it is self defense situation, you just need to view a longer range in a couple of minutes, or just doing beamshots with it. The 1000 lumens is almost half the throw of that 2000 lumens, you can still have a good distance and output.
Hello my friend. It's not my fault, the Acebeam L16 V2 model is out. It uses a 21700 battery if it's not my fault for the Acebeam L16 V2 model. In fact, it also uses Luminus SFT-40.
I just love it! My purchase was based on your review thanks 😊 side note I bought it to use when we go mountain biking at night 🌙 I'm more than happy with its performance =)
It is 20:22 and I actually own an ace beam l16 and it is one of the best lights I have ever owned it out does through night and olight. So good in fact that I keep one in my emergency jump bag and I ordered another one for every day Carrie they are really good lights little pricey but they're worth it very well built
Brilliant Matt! Now THIS is what I call a flashlight review. Until I saw this, I thought the only people who reviewed flaslights were morons. Thank you for restoring my faith.
Excellent review, in fact it motivated me to purchase a L16. I bought it from Amazon in Jan of 2020, retail box. Guess what? I did the Turbo step down test, at 5 min it did not step down by 5 Min 20 seconds it was so hot I could not hold it I had to oven mitts to turn it off.
Now imagine what happens when it turns on in your holster from the back tactical switch and you wonder what's that burning smell. Regret buying this thing. Dangerous.
Wow that's a nice flashlight! I want one! I have an Acebeam K40M and I love it! Acebeam is by far my favorite flashlight manufacturer! Even ordering spare parts was no problem at all!
Very nice review. Very interesting light, last month I almost bought it but I switch it with l30 gen2 because the l16 has a to tight hotspot and less spill, instead the l30 can illuminate a wider area with a big hotspot and spill, unfortunately it doesn’t have the same throw but it’s fine. Actually I love the output 4000 lumens of the l30 gen 2 and the tint neutral white 5000k of the led cree XHP 70.2
Thank you for the video! Great review! I like your opinions about the tactical features. The L16 seems to perfect with the tactical tail switch that always boots up the light in the max. output. I love that function. The beam distance with over 90000 is fascincating with that small reflector. I guess so far there is no newer light in the market which is similar (in tactical features and light output / beam distance) to the Acebeam L16. Or do you know one?
Seems like a nice light to me. Im not a to big fan of the thicker section behind the reflector i like the traditional look more als to hold. Great review!
Great reviews Matt, can you tell me which flashlight you will choose between L16 and L30 gen II. I cannot decide between this two, because I need also the throw of the L16 , can I choose L30 dedomed instead ?Thank you and keep up the good work!
I've seen many flashlights reviews, and this is, Overall, probably my favorite, and I'm considering buying it. But, I'm concerned that there are many reviews on Amazon, of people complaining about the overheating of this flashlight, on Turbo mode, when even turned on for a few minutes.
@han0509 Check out the ThruNite TC15. I have the desert tan version. It's micro USB rechargeable. It uses an XHP35 led. It's a side switch operation light, not a rear clicky switch. But a press and hold for 1 second gives you moonlight mode. Or one quick press gives you the last normal mode used (low, medium, high, it has a memory). Or a quick double press gives you turbo (2300 lumens) from either the off or on position. Turbo lasts for up to 2 minutes before thermal stepdown. Three modes available within 1 second. In normal mode, just press and hold to cycle through low, medium, and high. A quick press turns it off from any mode. A quick double press from turbo gives you strobe, or a press and hold takes you back to normal mode (low). Most of the complaints about the light are from user error. Like not having the head or tail tight, or not removing the insulating paper for the battery for shipping. I've never had a problem with mine. It comes with holster, charging cable, lanyard, spare O-rings, 3100mah battery, and pocket clip. It has a great mixed beam pattern of flood and throw. It doesn't have an electronic lockout, so I strongly recommend you slightly loosen the tail cap slightly for transporting it, especially if you put it in your pocket. I forgot to mention you can get it on Amazon.
@han0509 I understand. This light is great for a nubie, even for an enthusiasts, but for someone in your profession, not so much. Had I known, I wouldn't have even recommended it. I would think Acebeam, Surefire, or Olight would have something to meet your needs. Thanks for your courage and service. It's more dangerous than ever out there. Try to be safe!
@han0509 lol Ya know, it's really sad ( for us) that you recognize that, but, at least to me, doesn't change what I said. When something terrible happens and everyone wants to run away from it, it's your job to do just the opposite for both the citizens and visitors of your country. So my thank you still stands. And if something happens at night, I want you to have a good light to deal with it. ( had to keep it on the topic of flashlights) lol
I have acebeam l 16.. had it for about 2 years it is super bright. However in the summertime you need an oven mitt to hold it after about 5 minutes LOL. Still overall an incredible light.
Matt, i do a lot of riding at night. Road riding, not trail. Ive a pretty decent budget High output led light. Its commonly found on amazon as brighteyes. I know its not a great light, but it works well enough for what i use it for. The problem is that its not a self contained unit. The battery is seperate and connects with a wire. That has to be strapped to the bike as well. I also didnt trust the cells at the price i got them for with the light. So i bought a different style light thats also a purpose built bicycle headlight but is a integral unit. Its the melian x1. Its not a amazingly high output but is nearly as bright as my other light thats advertised at nearly 10x the output. It runs on a integral 26650 pack (i think thats what it is at least.) Its a light designed around eruo zone regs and is a surprisingly good light for the 25$ cost with lots of features. However the first one malfunctioned and the seller has sent me a new one. While i like the light and the fact that its an all in one design and has some nice features, im not holding my breath on it being a long lasting light. So, i was wondering if you could perhaps do a video or a series on bicycle specific lights primarily head lights but throwing some tail lights in there couldnt hurt. Previously, i gave up on purpose built bike head lights and just got decent off the shelf flashlights for the time and used those as my headlights. I always found that more output and better battery life and features for the money could be obtained with flashlights over bike specific lights. This is starting to change so i would like to see your take on some good budget headlights for bicycles. Specifically bike mounted ones as i usually wear a helmet and dont really like having a light attached to it.
I am planning some bike light stuff. Not tail lights, but front end stuff for sure. I have two builds in mind. It will still be several weeks before I am able to get started on them though. Thanks for sharing BTW..
I was wondering if you ever do headlamps I just got the Fenix hp30r and it is amazing! 1750 lumens "claimed" and it is very impressive on its run times as well
This guy might be tweaking... I don't know by reading others comments, But man he is the coolest most helpful individual...... If he can't help you, he finds somebody that can..... And he knows his shit and experiments with shit..... If everyone in the flashlight world would be like him, things on RU-vid would be better !!!! Don't believe he is becoming a millionaire posting his RU-vid videos........
I suspect the treading inside the tactical bezel is to reduce light noise/artifacts in the outside of the beam. My astrolux ec01 has that issues. I'm no flashlight expert, I'm just trying to think logically about the design.
Acebeam is known for their filters. The hotspot was way way bigger than I expected. It's surprising it gets that much throw. It looks to be about the same head size as my XT12GT and it has the same numbers but the hotspot on the Klarus looks much smaller but it does have a bright corona that I don't like. It just seems odd that so many factors are kept the same between the two but the hotspot size is different but yet the throw numbers are the same. Must be in the reflector focusing/size/shape or something. Do you own one? Can you do a comparison? I was considering buying the L16 to replace my XT12GT but I'd like to see that it can really match the throw despite the larger hotspot. Sorry for the long post.
bought my klarus XT12GT from china market, only half the price compared to Acebeam L16, so these two shouldnt be compared directly considering the price. saw some vids showing Acebeam is slightly brighter than Klarus, though Klarus comes with the 3600mah panasonic cell kinda covers it up. along with only half the cost, those are the main reasons why i choose the XT12GT. For me i kinda like the paddle switch cos i always needed time to find the side switch in dark places (back in times while using old Fenix) and with all controls in one place i only need to use a single thumb for all operations. one thing though, the tactical ring is loose but good thing is it can be removed
It seems like your C8 has a tighter focus, smaller hotspot, and that's why it's lux was higher. I don't remember your C8 specs, but I know a lot of folks can run a fet driver with an xpl hi and get around 1500 to 1600 lumen.
What are your thoughts on the ACEBEAM Ultra-Bright Tactical Flashlight L30 GEN Ⅱ with High 4000 Lumens,? If you had to choose between the Gen II and the L16 which would you choose and why? Thanks for the videos they are very helpful.
I have the T 21 ace beam , 2 cell , 1500 Lm , 1000 + meters , warm tint , l love it !!, I'd like to see the one you review compared to the KLARUS. XT 12 GT , awesome. Light !! Thank You!
Great review ! You truly know your stuff. I’m on the fence, the Acebeam L16 or the L 30. What’s your thoughts on the best way to go. What would be the best battery to pair with either. I’m used to using a Vander Ourdoor that I bought at a gun show. (A fragile light) I GREATLY appreciate your knowledge !
Great job! Thanks for this look. I'd love it if you could check, and see if a EC50 or 60 bezel will fit this thing? It's hard to tell for sure, watching this video on our TV, if it's the same size.
I don't have the 50/60 lights, but the head diameter is the same 40mm. I still haven't figured out what the threads on the inside of the bezel on this thing are for though.
Thanks. Acebeam offers filter discs, that have outside threads on them, to screw to the inside of the bezel. They have Orange, Green, Red, and White Diffusers. That is one reason I asked about the size. By the looks of it, I thought they'd be pretty close to the same size. It's good that they planned this out, to be the same. So diffusers bought for one, will fit the other. The EC50, and the EC60 are fantastic flashlights. As you may or may not know, I have a lot of flashlights. If I was asked to trim my collection down to only two flashlights. Those remaining, would both be Acebeams. The EC50, and the X45.
True Talon I looked at them for a while. It came down to the tailcap and Lumen output. I’m not a fan of the dual switch tailcap and the Acebeam visually to me looks brighter. I have a friend who has the Klarus and I compared mine to it. Even he agreed the Acebeam looks a bit brighter. Klarus has a new 4,000 lumen light coming out soon. It’s on battery junction for pre-order. I don’t remember if it had a smooth reflector or not.
Hey, Matt...nice review... But, can you tell me how do you feel about the Side Switch touching? I've seen some review saying that it's hard to find the button, in the dark. If would buy this flashlight, the Side Switch has to be very convenient and easy to use, I would be using almost like every day. I don't like switching through the modes using the tail button.
from the Aliexpr which flashlight you could recomend? i look on 160 xhp and 360s byt i donno which is better [or at les to not be some weak lighter thig you know..]?
I'd like to ask you a question; I'm in the US and I got one of these today from Amazon and the seller's name is Nitebeam. The box looks different, still kind of high end, but it had been re-sealed... The torch itself had a few fingerprints on it and the warranty card has no serial #; it's left blank to be filled-in. I assumed it would be a match between the card and the serial number on the torch... The battery had 3.84V at arrival and turbo mode worked out of the box. The Acebeam 3100 battery looks like it should but no manufacturing country is marked on it. I put the battery to cycle in my analyzer/charger and won't know more for about 6 hours about it. The box is orange and black... My question is: Should I be concerned about the authenticity of the product or is it normal not to have a serial number on the warranty card and no country of manufacturing on the supplied battery? Thank you; a quick answer will be very much appreciated since a return is pending upon it. Keep-up the great job with your revues!
Hey Dude. I lost the box for my L16, but looking at my K65, X45, and X85 I got the same warranty card. Just blank. I'm not sure if Nitebeam is a reseller or if that is the name Acebeam company uses on amazon... If I remember correctly Nitebeam is where I got my K65, and I have no reason to believe the light is anything but authentic. I too have got acebeams in boxes that were plain brown, and also some of them are printed in color. Not sure why.
Hi. Great video. I am looking at the Acebeams(16, 60,70)and Thrunight tn42, tn4a hi. I want agood mix of a long beam with decent flood. Also considering the imalent dn70. What do you suggest? Best. William
Not a huge deal, but you do such a good job with your presentation and articulation of things in your videos. Not making fun of you at all. The word is crenelated. The derivative is crenelation. Crenelations. Theres no U in it.
Thanks man, I could use all the help I can get. I must not have said that in front of my wife yet, or should would have mentioned it (degree in English).
You might have its a pretty context specific word and not common today outside of talking about flashlights, guns, metal fabrication or architecture or engineering. Its comes from how the parapets in old castle towers were designed. Think of the rook in a chess set. Those little blocky bits that stick up, those are crenelations. They can be of different designs and function but the basic idea is that a look out or archer or other combatant can use them as cover while standing fully and still be able to have some visual field or shot for an archer. Obviously in this case they look cool and can give someone a very distinctive scar when used like you mean it. But thats the history.
Keen Beams Ive had the ec60 for a couple months now and i literally feel like a jedi when using it! For its size and weight id say its well worth the money. Not saying its the best pocket thrower out there but the user interface is pretty well designed!
Is candela the best indicator of throw? I was curious what the rating is on this light. I’m trying to find the longest-throwing 18650 light that doesn’t widen at the reflector. The Nitecore P10GT is pretty great at 900lm, 20500cd, and 286 meters, but I’m wondering if there’s something greater. Dope channel you have here, btw!
Hi Bank it. Wear on this light should be decent. It claims to have Type III HA finish. I don't have any new surefires, but my older ones are Type III HA and still look pretty good. Also the warranty on surefires is impeccable, and time tested. Overall I expect this light to be quite durable though. I can find nothing that looks like a "weak point" at all.
Ok Im confused, Acebeam's specs (as shown in the video) are stating the battery run time is 1.2 hours on High at (1000 lumens) & 1.1 hours for 2000 lumens? Really? Something doesn't seem right?
Hi John. The way they get those numbers is with a turbo timer. If the light actually ran at 2k lumens the full battery cycle runtime would be only about 30minutes. The turbo (and probly the high) gradually decrease in output starting after a few minutes to keep the light from over heating.
