More Than Just A Classic Pilot Watch - Sinn 104 I St Sa Review - Beans & Bezels

Sinn lists this watch as a 'classic pilot watch', but this watch is so much more than that. This watch has flieger, diver and even some dress watch elements, making it (in my opinion) one of the most versatile watches in it's price category. The Sinn 104 I St Sa (white dial) may not have Sinn's amazing tegimented case, but it does have the excellent build quality, solid bezel construction and the clinical but faultless dial finishing.

One of the better Sinn 104 reviews I've seen. Didn't feel like you were gushing over it and it was nice to have the comparison with the Guinand. I think I'd take the Guinand over the Sinn 104.

After mulling over this for 2 years, I finally pulled the trigger on this exact variant. Hope it works well on my 6.25 - 6.5 inch wrist.

Thanks for this video! I REALLY want to buy this, however I am having a hard time finding anyone reporting good accuracy. It seems they do not regulate this at all. :-( Something that even Damasko, and Stowa do really well. So, the frustrating thing.. is paying even more for this and taking a big roll of the dice, that it will come with great accuracy. Most all of what I can find online says the same.

Thanks for watching! Yeah, this isn't the first time I'm hearing of a poorly regulated Sinn watch, but my Sinn EZM 3F was slightly better and my friend just got a Sinn 105 that is really well regulated.

Just FYI, they do offer the 104 in a matte bead blasted finish at WatchBuys. It’s their special edition model.

for me your video makes my decision even harder, I think the anti-magnetic case tips it toward the flight engineer. great comparison!

Thanks for watching! Yeah, the anti-magnetic case definitely adds a lot of points to the FE. It is a tough decision, but the silver lining is that both watches are excellent, so you're going to be happy either way!

Note that there are a few other options, in Sinn's lineup and outside of it. The EZM3/3F, 856, and 857 all have anti-magnetic cages in their cases and the 857 has similar styling to the Flight Engineer. The Damasko DA series does as well. All of those options are thinner than the Guinand, though I think the Flight Engineer has the nicest dial and handset.

Great looking watch but I am also put off by the polished case and the complaints around the bracelet clasp, not to mention even more polish on the bracelet. There have been a few limited editions of the 104 so I'll hold out hope for a brushed case and upgraded bracelet version some day!

Yeah, the bead blasted special edition is a good option, but a standard production brushed case would be ideal! Unfortunately, I haven't actually handled their bracelet and clasp, but I will try to get one to see what its like. The Flight Engineer's clasp isn't the greatest either, but it gets the job done.

Hi there, your videos are extremely helpful and well made. Quick question, do you know what size the black delugs epsom strap that you wore is? I'm the same wrist size as you and struggle with lengths. Cheers

I think we have similar tastes. I was looking for a rugged watch for frequent wear and for me the 104 was not "tool" enough. A good candidate if you're looking for one watch. I'll probably be considered a heretic for saying it but I find the 104 just a bit on the boring side to look at. Undeniable quality of build.

Yeah, the 104 with this case and dial doesn't fit the tool watch bill as much as the Flight Engineer. I did find out that WatchBuys (an AD in the US) does a special edition 104 with a bead blasted case and bracelet. That might actually be a better alternative to this. But yeah, the 104's dial is very simple. I'd love to see the Arabic numeral dial in person. I think those have a lot more 'character'.

How much more anti-magnetic properties does the G.F.E. have over the 104? The 104 Anti-magnetic as per DIN 8309.

Hi Tom, thanks for watching. I covered this a bit in my written review of the GFE. The DIN 8309 only makes guarantees up-to 60 Gauss or 4800 A/m, whereas the Guinand Flight Engineer goes up-to 1000 Gauss or 80,000 A/m. So this is a significant difference. You'll also see this rating on other Sinn watches like the EZM 3, 856, etc.
