"I don't think anyone is like 'oh yeah, it'd be better of the UK had guns'.." Funny thing about that, is recently being in the comments of a video with someone being like "the people of Taiwan should have more commercially available guns", because yeah THAT wouldn't just cause more issues. Especially since it was implied that it was to deal with the pro-China side of Taiwan's government. (the problem would be that the pro-China side would ALSO be able to buy those guns) Apparently the cure to every problem with another country's government (including the UK) to them, is "the people" not being allowed to use guns to intimidate the politicians into doing what those waving the guns want.

Braille on the keys of a vending machine is probably one of the weirder things i've noticed. So you know you're purchasing C7 while having no idea what item is in C7.
@Ohforgodssakethatsme
@Ohforgodssakethatsme Месяц назад
That actually makes sense because the people making the keys have no idea where the machines will go or what will be in them. All the people running the machines then have to do is stick a list of the items on the side of the machine, along with the matching key numbers. They can change out the list as the items change. Too bad they don't bother to do that.
@chazw3x
@chazw3x Месяц назад
@@OhforgodssakethatsmeSome vending machines do have a list of items. Also, not everybody that reads Braille is 100 percent blind. Some people can identify what a product is but can't read the smaller lettering on the buttons. When I was younger I knew a guy that was legally blind and had a cane but he also rode a bike. His eyes shifted back and forth so fast that he couldn't focus well enough to see but if he shook his head back and forth fast enough he could see well enough to ride his bike to work or the store and back home. You can imagine how tiring shaking his head would be if he did it all day long, hence, the cane.

As others have said. I’d also like to add… there’s an app that MANY blind and low vision folks use to help with daily life. You can click it and be connected to a volunteer who will be your eyes using the camera on your smart phone. I’ve listed the contents of vending machines many times & then told the person which selection they needed to make as well as if it takes only cash or also accepts card. I’ve also read Covid tests for people, ingredients on packages, confirmed temp on ovens, double checked that and address was correct on an envelope, and I’ve even helped folks make sure they grabbed two of the same colored shoe or same colored earrings or whatever. A big thing I’ve done too which I think is not only helpful but important is help blind folks see that all the broken bits of a dropped piece of glassware have been cleaned up. So basically, plenty of blind and low vision folks out there who borrow a set of eyes to assist in tasks, but braille helps them be more independent, for sure.

on an American driving test, prior to getting licensed, you have to take a written knowledge test. One of the questions poses the question "How do you identify a visually impaired pedestrian?" Well the red end has attachments they can change for different expected terrains or personal preference. Hi Dave and sightlings: I was taught in elementary school (we started cane training at 4), to use the touch point (tapping) method for outdoors, particularly walking the crowded sidewalks around school. It alerted others to our presence and we were especially taught to use it as echo location in parking lots and such. As an adult, I only use it for echo location. Also, for crowds, we were taught the modified grip, where you move your hand down below the grip of the cane and hold it close to your body because of the cluttered area. You can't do touch point that way.

I believe the way the law is written (at least in my state) is that you are always required to give the right of way to all pedestrians, not just blind ones. Even if they are in the road improperly, you cannot intentionally hit them and are required to make all reasonable efforts to avoid them. In practice though, there is still a substantial risk of serious bodily harm or death if you walk into traffic, and this is more about assigning legal responsibility after the impact than allowing anyone to cross anywhere they want. If the lighting conditions or sight lines or road surface is poor, it’s possible a driver could make what is considered a reasonable effort and still make contact. If a driver is a psycho and makes no effort to avoid despite having a chance, well, they’re at-fault after the fact but you’ve still been hit by a car.

We actually figured out a woman was stealing at my job due to her usage of her cane. She claimed total blindness and would half the time come shopping solo, tapping around the store and asking people for help. That was fine, she rarely walked into things and employees were friendly. One day she was spotted in the cosmetics section, cane resting on her cart.. picking stuff, looking in the mirror and pocketing it. We figured maybe she had some slight sight but paid more attention. She left the store and found her way to the bus for the disabled tab comes, with her shopping cart and no cane. There’s anti-car ramming pillars, cars in the fire lane, constant people and vehicle traffic. Every past time she’d navigated to her ride with her cane, sorta dragging the cart. Next time we paid more attention. She has some degree of sight loss, but managed this entire trip solo, even putting the cane in her cart at times. Our store is busy, and she wasn’t asking people for help. She pocketed cosmetics, and some other random stuff into her purse. Blind or not, you know when you’re doing it. This time she was caught. She claimed she thought she was putting the items back. The cameras showed totally otherwise.it was a large bag, she’d also put some expensive candy bars in there. (Our security team is all male, I was the female chosen to be in the room with while she was spoken to)
