Hey Rusty! I live in Eight Mile Rock which is in western Grand Bahama. It was rainy and windy last night , there were some reports of water settling on the road on the seaside. Right now it’s breezy with a slight chill that is more than welcome.🇧🇸

From Dominica south east, weather has been very fine today. This was a timely live telecast yesterday. Is there a building code for house building in Florida. During Maria my house was used as a Shelter, we had no damage, wind was greater than 165/mls. sustain. Looking at the quality of the overall damage from the wind to the houses,wind near 125mls sustain, very poor construction indeed. Better can be done in that area. Building is a life time investment! Thanks for Dominica's building code!

Hey Rusty, condolences and best wishes to all who suffered at the hands of Milton. Good riddance! On Tuesday evening as both Milton and Leslie were re-strengthening, there was a fascinating correlation of wind speed/pressure between the two cyclones. Milton was 165/902 and Leslie 75/992. Milton was 90mph stronger wind-wise and 90mb deeper pressure-wise.

Tampa Bay area, clean up will take weeks. The size of downed trees is unbelievable. Sink holes, houses left unlivable. And it was not even a direct hit.

I lived through super storm Sandy in New Jersey. Milton was nothing compared to Sandy. House's gone washed away. 100mph wind for 24hrs.New York under water Staten Island homes burned .That was a storm.

Watched it from my window on the second floor of central avenue in st Pete, it was unbelievable wind for three hours, we thought st Pete would be torn to shreds but the windshear made a huge difference thank god it was intense like a wind tunnel on Central Avenue

Do you have any insight into when can we expect to have models that properly account for the rapid intensification of modern hurricanes? I don't know what the process of model development is like, but this is a pretty glaring deficiency in forecasting, so I would have thought meteorological researchers would have this as a priority.

The models are getting better. There was one hi-res tropical model that did pretty well trying to keep up with the rapid intensification. It’s also about the time it takes to initialize and run the model. By the time the model is out, the storm is already much stronger. -Rusty

We weren’t hit directly after all. We live north of Tampa. We had winds only around 80 for 6-7 hours. No flooding at all. Which is more accurate? The GFS or European model? Which one correctly guessed where Milton was going? Thank you.

Both were fairly good. The GFS was too far north early, but came south the last 36 hours. Other tropical models like the HAFS-A did well. -Rusty

The number of stress related heart attacks before hurricanes relates to you and those like you. Hurricanes relates to a specific area. But spew your fear everywhere.
