What a nice coincidence! I watched a video tonight of a guy in Texas who is trying to establish a bed of Morels, and then youtube suggested your video next - and you're only thirty minutes away! I live near Elizabeth, at 6800 feet, and I've been thinking about trying to start some more desirable mushrooms on my land. I have pasture and sparse Ponderosa forest, with a small patch of aspens, so I'm hopeful that I can make a habitat where Morels will grow here. In wet years, I have lots of native puffballs in the pastures and shaggy parasols in my garden and under the aspens. I look forward to seeing your results in the coming months! I'd love to stop by for a visit on my next drive up onto the Rampart Range, if you would welcome a mushroom-loving stranger! I enjoy hunting mushrooms in your neighborhood, often by motorcycle, since that gets me deep into the forest above you. Who knew that motorcycle trails also lead to mushrooms!? It's sure a lot easier to see the mushrooms from a motorcycle, instead of through car windows. I moved here from southern Wyoming, where I spent decades hunting King Boletes and Black Morels in the Medicine Bow Mountains, and around Fort Collins.

Looks great. Impressive and smart as always.

Dear friend, you are improving the method, but it will be very difficult to be successful if you maintain this system. I got it last year, with Morchella eximia. I wish you luck. We will see it in the spring

Awesome video! I am definitely interested in getting involved with morel cultivation at some point soon. Did you use any type of substrate mix to supplement the soil? Also where did you source your Morel cultures? Was it some that you found yourself or purchased? I understand genetics is extremely important in order to have a successful Morel grow, do you know if any research has been done on what makes it successful? The entire cordyceps cultivation model comes to mind where most of the cultures are unreliable and have a very short window for being able to fruit.

What were your previous yields like? I've heard they're immensely challenging.

How are you calculating the 60% hydration? Is that a particular specie of grass/plant growing in the bed?

can you point to any verifiable success with these spawn packs of yellow morel?ive long been curious as they continue to.I am aware of the chinese growing black morels in similar conditions and multiple examples of pranks for growing yellows.i am sure it is very specific to genetics and realize there are dozens of subspecies of morels.just curious if you are following any tek or are pioneering this method.do those spawn packs supply any genetic info or where you able to select a preferable subspecies?my first guess would be Morchella rufobrunnea

Gary! I've had zero luck with morel incubation. Suggestions? Substrate? Conditions? I have a ton of ideas that I've used, and worked, to extend the growing season via temperature influence. I cover the base of my raised beds with black plastic, and run ABS plumbing pipe (black) under the soil, with the ends extended out about 18", to collect heat from the sunlight. It keeps the bed slightly warmer, which allows it to survive minor frosts with little damage, if any. I cover the entire bed with clear plastic, to trap the heat and humidity in. I cut slits in the plastic (not too many) for airflow. It's very rudimentary, but it works! I first used this method for super-hot peppers. I was told that it wasn't possible to get them to grow effectively in my environment. Never tell me that I "can't" do something. I'll put every effort into proving you wrong. lol I got excellent yields of Carolina Reaper, Ghost Pepper, and many others. Tons of them! (few years back)

genetics is very important - these were just oak pellets on oat spawn and colonized in about 20 days

The mycelium in the grain spawn is diploid. In fact, you can get any morel strain fruiting very easily using the "exogenous nutrient bag" method if you can guarantee that the strain belongs to any of the Morchella importuna/M. sextelata/M. eximia species. You can try to hunt the three species from wild forests and make your own culture.

there are moisture meters that can detect it - I also eyeball it. It is just a local grass that’s growing along with garden debris

Thanks for the reply Garry and thank you for all the knowledge you share! The breeding from spores series is a favourite 🍄❤️
