@@nanobot7925 More Japanese speakers are involved in localization than you probably think. Not to mention that they would still have access to the original Japanese audio. And Atlus USA is the also the same group that had the case of SMTIV pronouncing Samurai as "saw-moo-rye", rather than the expected "sam-ur-eye". Regardless of the reasoning behind it, pronounciations like this, and how certain names are said, *are* done on purpose.
I don't think the English dub intended to make Ann sound "gaijin," since they're all speaking English. Through RU-vid's suggestions, I learned Ann's English voice actress has a RU-vid channel and went to Japan recently in 2022. Maybe she got a little better at pronounciation since this was dubbed, probably some time in 2014 or '15. In the end though, that single line of cringe over the word "kitsune" is nothing compared to the Ultimate ability line from Kiriko in Overwatch 2. She sounds fine otherwise, even really cool, speaking Japanese. Her voice actress is either very fluent, or so good at acting that she sounds fluent. Maybe that director actually did tell her to "sound more like a gaijin" since the line is in English, but that just increased the pain of hearing what is supposed to be "the big one" from multilingual characters. Only that could explain... *"LET THE KEET-SOO-NEY GUIDE YOU!"*
There are actually many localization issues with the English side of Japanese games. Mostly due to poor choice in the people selected for localization, too many political corrections. This has been talked about on Twitter for several years now
