The cambelt guide washer was a clue that someone less than fully competent had worked on this engine, but I wasn't ready for what I found after removing the barrels.
That small end has obviously been "precision" reamed with a butter knife possibly in the search for a few more RPM from the lowering of friction on the piston pin. Or it might just be Chipmunks as "ickipoo" suggests. Cheers Eric
Hi Paul, my father inlaw has one of these and today when he kicked it over it didn't want to idle below 2000rpm until we messed around with the choke levers and not long after that I noticed it was leaking a substantial amount of oil from the engine casing joint. Do you know the torque specs for this and have you ever come across this issue? The bike was only fully rebuilt by someone within the last year or 2 but my father in law has only had it a few months and so far hasn't ridden on the road thank god
I don't remember the case bolt torque off hand. It's pretty low as they're all M6, except for the mounting bolts which are M8. The workshop manual can be found online in various places. These engines should be very oiltight. They used a centre gasket early in production, but soon changed to a sealant, Arexon Motosil D or much easier to find Threebond 1215.
