Probably the best pick of the last decade, late-round steals excepted. Not just because of how good he is, but because it was a supposed "reach" that hit. Lots of people (me included) want to freak out when teams take players high, but they generally know a lot more about a player's makeup and ability to improve than the public sphere. Add in that fact that Detroit's system/structure has completely changed since the pick, and it's clear there was a level of foresight when making that decision. They picked the perfect player for a style of hockey they weren't playing yet, but we're planning on it. Awesome stuff.

I've noticed that rookie 'star' players get the 'welcome to the NHL' treatment from opposing teams a lot in their first year (cross checks, late hits extra pushing and shoving after the whisle). I've also noticed that Seider is not getting this treatment in his first NHL season and there is a reason for this; they don't want to mess with this big boy and end up looking like chumps on the highlight reel

There is a simple reason why his breakout has changed so much. Because in his early years he was taught to play the puck out over the boards if he is pressured. While I agree that he has improved a lot since his year in SHL but you aslo have to factor in the bigger ice and that in SHL hockey, attacking is played much more along the boards

So he's doing it better now in the NHL than when he was in the Shl, what kind of point... are you trying to make dummy...

Your complimenting his game but actually trying to discredit him in some way is what it seems like. Delusional. I don't have time for people like you, I'm out.

@@stopdroolin8418 I an not discrediting it in any way. Rather my point is that he had some of his skills even before but some of it doesn’t fit the SHL playstyle. Now being in the NHL has of course helped him develop

@@stopdroolin8418 That is entirely YOUR interpretation of my words. If anything I was critizing the creator of the video for not taking it into consideration.

This shows you when the GM was an elite player himself, he would certainly possess the innate ability to pick out the elite easily as proven in both Tampa and Detroit. Yzerman is already a legend on and off the ice!

He’s already the number one defensemen? What is Cale Makar then?
@spookbusterstirner5865
@spookbusterstirner5865 2 года назад
The term "number one defenseman" isn't normally used to mean the best defenseman in the league (although the Norris winner would be a number one defenseman). It's used on more of a franchise-wise basis. Refers to that elite defenseman that a team can lean on in all situations on the back end, whether it be quarterbacking the powerplay, playing on the PK, etc., and they do that at an extremely high level. In that sense, Cale Makar is a number one defenseman. As are Roman Josi, Victor Hedman, Erik Karlsson (in his prime), Adam Fox, Charlie McAvoy, Aaron Ekblad. There's usually only a small handful of true 1Ds at any time in the league. Mitch is saying that Seider is becoming/has become that for Detroit.

@captbloodbeard - Are you sure you're not wanting too much?...for one who gave nothing. Do you really think that "please" is a magic word?...and by using it, you will get your request. If you cannot overlook simple, meaningless things...life's got a few knuckleballs for you man-child. Don't be critical of the meaningless things in life. There are more important issues that need attention. "I just want..." What does it feel like, to want?
