Mork & Mindy is an American sitcom broadcast from 1978 to 1982 on ABC. It stars Robin Williams as Mork, an extraterrestrial who comes to Earth from the planet Ork in a small, one-man egg-shaped spaceship. Pam Dawber co-stars as Mindy McConnell, his human friend and roommate. The series is a spin-off from the sitcom Happy Days.
The character of Mork is played by a then-unknown Robin Williams, who impressed producer Garry Marshall with his quirky comedic ability as soon as they met. When Williams was asked to take a seat at the audition, Williams immediately sat on his head on the chair and Marshall cast him on the spot, and later wryly commented that Williams was the only alien who auditioned for the role. Mork appears in the Happy Days Season 5 episode, "My Favorite Orkan", which first aired in February 1978 and is a take on the 1960s sitcom My Favorite Martian. Williams's character, Mork, attempts to take Richie Cunningham back to his planet of Ork as a human specimen, but his plan is foiled by Fonzie.
In the initial broadcast of this episode, it all turned out to be a dream that Richie had, but when Mork proved so popular, the ending was re-edited to show Mork erasing the experience from everyone's minds, thus meaning the event had actually happened and wasn't a dream. In Mork & Mindy, Mork resides in a Boulder, Colorado setting of the late 1970s and early 1980s (as compared to the Happy Days setting of Milwaukee in the late-1950s). Mork arrives on Earth in an egg-shaped spacecraft. He has been assigned to observe human behavior by Orson, his mostly unseen and long-suffering superior (voiced by Ralph James). Orson has sent Mork, in order to get him off Ork, where humor is not permitted. Attempting to fit in, Mork dresses in an Earth suit, but wears it backward.
He encounters 21-year-old Mindy (Pam Dawber) who is upset after an argument with her boyfriend, and offers assistance. Because of his odd garb, she mistakes him for a priest and is taken in by his willingness to listen (in fact, simply observing her behavior). When Mindy notices his backward suit and unconventional behavior, she asks who he really is, and he innocently tells her the truth. She promises to keep his identity a secret and allows him to move into her attic.

Feel the same, there's something about that kite scene. It takes me back to being ages 2-3 to 6-7 years old, the age I was during the run of this show. Strange how so many of us, no matter our age feel that way about the kite scene. Since I was born in 1975, I'm pretty sure Mork & Mindy was the very first TV show I liked at age 2 or 3 in 1978.

This takes me back. I love the theme tune. It's like a fanfare heralding the arrival of a wonderful star into our lives. Not unlike Mork the alien. I've never been affected by a famous person's death the way I was with Robin Williams. I remember watching his films that evening and the following day.

Robin’s extreme talent made the series work for four years. One of my very favorite shows as a child. I was born in 1978, the year the series started. And, I understood television itself largely by watching it.

I was born in 1975, I think this was the first TV show I remember liking at age 2 or 3 in 1978. It’s a hazy memory, I really don’t remember the late 70s well, and I know Mork & Mindy ran into the 80s that I absolutely do remember, but I’m pretty sure my first TV show was this one.

I kinda miss sitcoms having pretty, funky, and beautiful intro/outro music. Whether it's the Melancholy and calm "Taxi," theme, or the cheerful, yet whimsical "Mork and Mindy" theme. These shows may be before my time, but there's still a level of innocence, and cool factor these old sitcoms have that modern shows don't have.

When I was a little kid in the early 80s, I really wanted to wear rainbow outfits because I loved Mork/Robin William's look. I never got why people discouraged me as a child until I got older and realized it was gay community symbol. Not that there's anything wrong with that.....I mean if that's who you are...cue Seinfeld music, lol.

I'm watching the episodes of Mork and Mindy. I wonder where is the episode with the frisbee and him kicking the ball on the football field. And, him and them standing on the football post. Hopefully I haven't skipped any episodes. Maybe those scenes aren't in any episodes. There seems to be a few outdoor scenes of them like that.

They where used for the intro only and there's an episode in season 2 where Mindy is reminiscing about her times with Mork and the song The Way We Were plays in the background which include many scenes from the intro outside at the waterfall, Mindy Driving with Mork in her jeep and of course the frisbee and football field clips never from a direct episode!! 💁❤👍
