The Shift is a good movie, but the truth is that there are some Mormon connections in this film. Let's talk about it.

I do not share this perspective although I understood where it comes from. I viewed it as Kevin not choosing to go with the Benefactor's way. If Kevin had chosen Molly he would be accepting a deal from the Benefactor. Rather than doing the "good act" by choosing Tina to save himself, he chose to negate and reject the Benefactor's offer despite his desire to return to Molly and knowing that he would keep suffering but yet he never lost his hope. When he made his choice, he said good bye to Molly showing that he had no expectations to be awarded. But God is good and we will testify his goodness and miracles! It is also made clear throughout the movie that there is good and kindness in the post apocalyptic world because God is there and he will never abandon those who believe, and it is your choice to see the work and grace of God and acknowledge his presence. Kevin says multiple times "it's him", when someone questions him about his kindness.

I’m a believer in the Book of Mormon (not LDS, just a believer) and I just got done watching the Shift. (I saw this video before hand). And I got to say- I think you missed the point. Both of that scripture in Nephi, and of the movie. 1. The scripture- you’re reading it as “we have to do everything we can, and then grace is applied.” That’s not how it’s supposed to be read. It’s supposed to read like “even after all we can do, it is still by grace that we are saved.” 2. God DOES show up to Kevin in the film. But it’s not personally (like having Jonathan Roumie as Jesus show up in the room.) and I would argue that doing that would really cheapen the movie. Instead, he sends the cat back after four years. It’s a small and simple thing, but by small and simple things are great things brought to pass. (To quote the Book of Mormon 😉) And it’s true to life, both in our day as well as in scriptural times. More often than not, God doesn’t physically show up to comfort us in our suffering. Sometimes he’s a still small voice, a letter from a friend, or a cat showing up after four years ;) 3. The point of the final monologue isn’t to highlight Kevin’s goodness, but that beauty, hope and courage still exist in spite of suffering, tragedy, and malevolence. Because of God. Love your channel. Love the Shift. Love the Chosen!

Much love to you, Brandon, but @prj492 is spot on both in his representation of how we actually understand the passage in 2 Nephi you quoted, and in the meaning of the end of the film. I appreciate you recommending the film, but I would challenge you to take another look and see that everything you're looking for in the film is actually there....and a lot of what you did see simply is not.

Another humble point of view. i did not see marketing that the movie was a modern day retelling of Job. So i didn't have Bible expectations. My walk away was that it was inspired by the book of Job and the temptations of CHRIST. It provided me an imagination for remaining faithful to GOD while living through hell on earth and GOD'S seemingly silence in those times. The message was Hope. But more importantly, as an abandoned woman, it gave me an image of a dream for a man who would pursue me through hell on earth. But more importantly, a vision of a LORD who does pursue me like that. Moreover the ending was a beautiful testimony to pursuit impassioned by love, but not driven to idol. Think Abraham and Isaac. I saw Christ-likeness in Kevin's sacrificing his own desires and pursuit of Molly, the one he loved, in order to save Tina. That's a shadow to what CHRIST did for us.

This was a fast paced film with many layers so don’t feel bad if you missed the many times the movie showed the presence of God. I saw it twice and the second time I came away with even more. This movie is filled with God but the movie does not hand it over to us on a silver platter and I’m so thankful it did not. I will share some with you. I can only share a few because this will be a long post but once you get these go back and see it again and many more will pop out at you. Let’s start at the necklace that said "He Lives" which expresses the reality that because Christ died for us, all is not lost and that we can be with our loved ones again. In addition to these wonderful messages is the precious message that Christ is over all, and is in charge even in the darkest of times... The show shows us repeatedly that Christ is with us, helping us even when we do not realize it. That is one of the biggest message of all. This message is also reiterated at a key point again when Kevin asks the Benefactor where his son is and the Benefactor tells Kevin that, “...where is I can not shift him back.” With this thought taking root in kevins mind, Kevin feels Christ’s presence even more and this time he recognizes it. His countenance changes as he feels God, and he says to Satan with assurity in this belief, “You are right, you can’t!” He is realizing in his own heart that the only one who can help him to see his son again is God, the one who conquered death. And you can see that Christ has given Kevin peace in this moment of thought. So much so that kevin makes a better choice because of his realization of Christ’s power in his life. Good movies do not spell everything out. Spelling to many things out can make a movie cringey, clunky and hard to watch. Instead, this movie is done so beautifully that it might even be missed by a few so go back and look at that particular part again and listen to the whole conversation and watch the moment of Kevin’s realization of God’s immense power in His life. I don’t know about you, but I’d say that is a very big presence of God manifested in this movie. Another showing of God's presence in this film is the true goodness shown in the few who believed in light or hope that is in Christ. For example, the family who was Kevin's neighbor. They chose to be kind, give service and charity and believe in Christ even while living in such a dark world. So did Kevin. But why is Kevin and this family this way when the world is so dark around them and so many choose not to be this way? This happens because both Kevin and the family are learning the principle taught to all of us in John: John 14:15 “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” And also this lesson in John: 1 John 4:16 (KJV) 16. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. .… 17. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear… 18. We love him (God), because he first loved us. The manifestation of God's power in the lives of Kevin and this little family in such a dark and dreary world is an excellent manifestation of God’s power in this show and is plain as day. It is very touching, deeply personal and effectively delivered. Another presence of God in the movie that people might miss the first time they see it is the cat coming back after 4 years to Kevin's friend. Only God could bring it back after so many years. It was a the producer included it this sweet little miracle to show just how God is in the details. Even the tiniest and almost insignificant of details. (The producer even said this in an interview) What a wonderful way to show God’s presence even in the little things. Its such a big key point about God and one we should thank the Lord for daily. Another big one is when Kevin is choosing Christ over his own selfish desires. This is manifested in the movie where he chooses to help Tina over his own will of rejoining his wife. It shows the transformation Christ has on the souls of men who choose to follow Him (Christ). Kevin turned towards Christ. Just as Job did in the Bible. When we turn to the Savior and follow Him, God’s power is manifest in our lives. This is clear in the book of Job in the bible and quite clear here with Kevin. Christ, who is mighty to save, saved them both! Job and Kevin. both body and soul. Which brings me to the last one I’ll list (since this post is so long) Last but not least, a very obvious place to observe God in grand action is when the Benefactor (Satan) was getting angry and wanted to destroy Kevin, Kevin was lifted out of the depths of suffering (just as Job was) by God, not by Kevin’s own deeds but by God’s omnipotent power. (Please go watch this part closely). Kevin does nothing but realize Christ’s power in his own life when he tells Satan that “your right, you cant!” He tells him this because he realizes who actually can do all things. God. Then the movie shows God working His miracles. He blesses Kevin with healing and deliverance from that dark world. Kevin had no way to shift, the Benefactor (Satan) was aiming to destroy him and in that moment God’s power and light banished Satan and blessed Kevin in more ways then he could have ever imagined. He was blessed excessively as was Job in the bible. Double of what he previously had in his life. A wife who also loved the Lord, (Her song "This little light of mine" show this) Blessed him with precious children again, stability and happiness. Just as God blessed Job in the Bible. The show shows Kevin choosing God but having no power on his own except to believe on Christ Jesus and try to live as Jesus asked in John 14:15. Christ's power saved Kevin and the show is filled with this message. If anyone missed it, thats ok, It's a very fast paced movie. So go back and watch it again to find all of these wonderful messages and more. :)

Guys. I love the chosen and I haven’t really watched the other shows but I am a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and there is nothing in the chosen that generally contradicts our beliefs. When people make shows like this that we generally love and believe in (I like the chosen better than the Bible videos my church actually made) than it is important to include us and stop criticizing us and excluding us as other Christians always have. It is actually really discriminatory to condemn us like this when talking about shows that we’d probably like and promote like the chosen, and does not represent Christlike principles whatsoever when people downplay us instead of including us like Christ would

Hello! I can’t speak for all Christians, but as someone who frequently dialogues with Mormon missionaries I believe it is important for Christians and Mormons to have open, respectful, and honest discussions about the differences in our faiths. The intent is not to belittle anyone but to speak the truth in love. After all, if you saw a friend about to go skydiving with a faulty parachute, I’m sure you would warn him not to jump! The same principle applies here. Christians like myself are lovingly worried that LDS doctrine is leading people to “jump” into eternity with the wrong gospel and the wrong God. Simply put, Mormonism differs from biblical doctrine on key elements, not merely “side issues.” As this video mentioned, Ephesians 2:8-9 says we are saved by grace, not works. Yet the Book of Mormon says the opposite: “if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind, and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you” (Moroni 10:32). So, the Book of Mormon teaches a different gospel-one where we must first love God perfectly and keep His law before His grace is sufficient for us. Many Mormons I talk to point to James 2:17, which says faith without works is dead. But just 7 verses earlier, James wrote, “For whosoever shall keep the whole law and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all” (James 2:10). So in context, James is not saying we have to work to “make up the difference” in God’s grace; he is simply saying that if we are truly saved, good works will naturally follow. The Bible teaches that good works are the result of salvation, not the cause of it. Mormonism also teaches a different Jesus than the Bible-which is obviously no small difference. According to the Bible, “all things were created by him, and for him” (Colossians 1:17, see also John 1:1-3 and Hebrews 1:8-12). Jesus is the eternal, uncreated God who made everything-including Lucifer. Yet LDS theology holds that Jesus is a literal son of God and so is Lucifer, making Jesus the brother of the devil and not the eternally existent Creator! So while Christians and Mormons both profess belief in Jesus, we don’t mean the same thing when we say “Jesus.” Note that even Paul expressed concern about people preaching “another Jesus” (2 Corinthians 11:4). Yet another major difference is the LDS portrait of God. According to Joseph Smith, God the Father was once a man like us, and we ourselves can progress to become gods. Thus, Mormonism teaches that there are multiple gods. Yet the biblical God disagrees, saying “before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me” (Isaiah 43:10). This verse almost seems written to refute Joseph Smith’s doctrine. (Interestingly, Joseph Smith’s teaching that Heavenly Father was a man who progressed to godhood also contradicts Moroni 8:18 and Alma 11:44 in the Book of Mormon.) Sorry to have turned this reply into a book, but as I said, these matters are important! I encourage you to take a look at God’s 10 commandments (you shall not lie, steal, covet, etc) and ask yourself if you are keeping them. Have you really done “all you can do”? Remember, the Mormon gospel says God’s grace is only sufficient for you if you first “deny yourself of all ungodliness.” But the biblical gospel says that Jesus-the eternal Creator-took on human flesh to suffer the punishment we all deserve. He rose again to display His power over death and now your debt, along with mine, is paid in full! If we try to add our own good works to the payment, we cheapen what He has done (Galatians 2:21)! All we have to do is admit we are sinners and place our complete trust in Jesus (not ourselves) for salvation. Ephesians 2:8-10 sums it up: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.“ Notice we are saved “unto good works,” not “by works”-not even partially by works. Good works are the result of salvation, not the cause of it. Salvation is a free gift of God received through faith-and it matters whether that faith is in the true Jesus or a false one. I hope you will think about this and seek the true Jesus. For anyone curious to learn more, irr.org is a great resource. 😁

Interesting. I did not catch that the discussion with God was missing. Of course, I think that discussion would be hard to put it into the movie in a way that would fit. But the result of Kevin's understanding could have been different. I guess I thought that Kevin's willingness to never see Molly again, was a way of acknowledging God's sovereignty. And I would never really expect an allegory to fit exactly, nor a movie meant for the masses to show every scriptural element. But you did point out some interesting ideas from the Mormon beliefs that have impacted the script. Still, it is a "clean" movie, with inspirational ideas, and it can be an opening for great discussions about faith and God. I also like that they highlight the empty tomb as a symbol of hope.

This is the exact problem I had with The Shift. Thank you for verbalizing it so well. The contest was between God and Satan. Job never knew what was going on behind the scenes. God’s sovereignty over Kevin’s life and even Satan himself didn’t come through in the film. The climax of Job is God declaring who He is as Creator and Ruler over all. The movie totally left this out. I also struggled with their depiction of our choices creating multiple versions and realities of ourselves. We have one eternal soul gifted to us to spend with God or apart from Him.

I love seeing arrogant and selfish people believe that their reality is the only important one, oblivious to the fact they're dismissing an infinite amount of people. You're right that we only have one eternal soul, but it exists in every corner of every reality. And our choices and actions never "create" realities. We just constantly shift our awareness to a new one that already existed and always will exist.

Brandon, I saw the same thing as you. I wanted to see Kevin call on Jesus at the end. Or quote scripture to the Benefactor as Jesus did during His wilderness temptation. Thanks for this commentary. I would agree with you. I knew ahead of time that the director/writer was Mormon and will admit I went into it on the lookout for Mormon influence. I am not as versed as you in the book of Job so I didn't correlate the ending not following Job, but it did seem very humanistic to me in the end that it was Kevin basically saving himself. I thought Sean Astin's character was going to be kind of the "Jesus" symbol who steps in to restore Kevin and Molly, but that certainly didn't happen. On a side note, as a huge Trekker I LOVED seeing John Billingsley in the movie and I enjoyed his character a lot!

I see this a little different when I first saw the movie a couple days ago. I do get your point, but I saw the choice for Tina vs his life back w Molly as a not choosing to take the devils deal but choosing the opposite of the devils deal. Not necessarily saving himself or choosing so God would grant him grace. That being said, I don’t recognize your point initially and do see the nuance and the potential of tarnishing the truth. Also not being a producer of movies but hearing how Dallas talks about whether to develop scenes in the chosen may affect some of the content you see missing. To add Gods presence to this movie may have required extra budget to do it without being too cheesy. I don’t know just a thought.. Thank you for you view!

The ending was the weakest part of this movie. That being said, it could be argued that by choosing Tina, Kevin was accepting to stay in the distopian nightmare universe and give up everything he ever wanted. That action prompted God to appear to him (which wasn't shown but was implied by the quote text during the white screen) and then send him to his new dimension. All that being said, this movie definitely would have benefited from a bit more content in the ending. I think they skipped out on it because they were trying too hard to be mainstream, personally, and didn't want the average sci-fi fans to be put off by God appearing in person. Still, I loved the movie and I'm grateful we're getting films like this considering the sea of garbage Hollywood is putting out these days.

Thank you for this video! I appreciate the distinction you pointed out about the movie’s ending. It is a very important one. If no comparison of Job were in the movie it wouldn’t be so different from a lot of other Hollywood movies (the hero does the right thing in his own power). The comparison to Job “shifts” (haha) the conversation to God’s grace and power, which is missing in this movie, and therefore is a let down.

I honestly took it to another level, we leave a selfish life not realizing that everything we have around us was freely given to us, not to mention. Life after death. Our minds and lives are so occupied that we don’t even have time to read our bibles. During the shift watching it, I can see a man that dies in a accident but in spirit he is in another world to proof himself or we can say he learns a lesson to become that , to what he is call to change and do the right thing during his life in earth. He is now facing apocalypse where everyone that was left are the ones that really thought they where truly with God but in reality are the luke warmers who decided to be on both sides. While Sundays is kept to be holly but Friday and Saturday to go party and week days to work . Sad to say that many leaves that life. God cries for his children who doesn’t decide which way they want to be . The clock is almost ending , everything in this world is changing drastically, not to mention every we are hearing in the other side of the world . Anyhow, what I am trying to say is that we need to stop leaving selfish. Focusing in God and turn to Jesus before we end up facing the Antichrist . His spirit is in this world and many are being deceived. Did u know that not only covid was a warning from God to wake up his ppl?? Not only he did that, but he realized those that took the shot to keep their jobs and keep everything he has given by grace . He got to see exactly the ones that denied him. Everyone was at fear and quickly forgot his promises n trusted man . Including me 😢 but fear definitely didn’t defeat me all the way by keeping my job. I was ready to be in the streets with my kids . I didn’t take it. I was ready to loose it all for him. But this isn’t to glorify myself . Who cares what I did. But is just to tell u that if u took the shot cuz of fear. That tells u that u weren’t ready for Christ and would’ve easily taken the mark . Maybe maybe not but either way. Thank you for that explanation. Throughout the movie I expected to see God show up or a better indication of His presence or influence but it wasn't there. I loved the movie but something didn't sit right with me. Now I get it. When Kevin first prayed at the table in the restaurant I was expecting him to say "Jesus Help me" or something to that effect using the name of Jesus. Alarm bells went off in my head when the name of Jesus was not used. The movie over all to me as a sci-fi movie was great. The end of the movie says "we are saved by our works" I disagree with that. We are saved by Grace which is what God did for Job. Great movie over all.

I am a born again committed Christian. I agree with your points they are very well made. And I agree that at the end of the shift it is not pointing enough in some ways to God's grace that saves us. That being said, I do want to add that the Body of Christ, the Christian cChurch has been so self-absorbed in the West. We have become self-centered and narcissistic. We put ourselves first and we do not understand the important concepts of seeing others needs and if we have the ability to help them we are an expected by the Lord Himself to do so. We have lost the concept of confession and making amends to others for the sins and the wrongful deeds we have committed against them. We are saved by grace and faith in Jesus Christ and His redemptive work on the cross and resurrection alone. But He requires that we be actively involved in the sanctification process and part of that is giving of ourselves even sacrificially, we must lay down our lives and that was an important concept that can be seen in this movie even at the end. Jesus laid down His life for His friends, for the world! Tonight we watched the clip from season 4 where the apostles did not understand that Jesus had to lay down His life for the very salvation of the world and that they themselves would be required to lay down their lives in following Him. Kevin needed to be self sacrificial and lay down something he wanted so passionately because of a mistake he made hurting another human being. He needed to make amends and make it right. This concept was presented and is important for the Body of Christ!! It has been lost Through time and it is important that the concept of accountability, confession and making amends needs to come back and be taught to the Church.

Oh. I wondered about this. I want to support faith based content, but i do worry about the influence of the mormon faith. The owners of angel studios are mormon. It makes sense they would give voice to mormon doctrine. The connection to job seemed like an afterthought to me. I will still support projects I think are good, but i will always watch with a discerning christian worldview.

I see what you’re saying now, Brandon but when I was seeing the movie, I didn’t pick that up to emphasize. I thought the emphasis was resisting and denying a win to the benefactor. I enjoyed a really different science fiction story. So how would you integrate the God narrative in Job into this dystopian multiverse? I’m scratching my head since watching your critique. I don’t have a good answer for that without making the story total cringe.

I just personally think the ending hinged way too much on Kevin and his choices. Yes he “sacrificed” what he wanted, but throughout the movie all he was trying to do was to run away from the hurt that God put him in. I would’ve liked to see Gods hand more present throughout. Something outside of Kevin’s control that brought him to a place of understanding God more. I think there are many ways this could’ve been done.

@The Chosen Sleuth, It is clear to many that God's power was shown through the entire thing, from the necklace that said "He Lives" which expresses the reality that because Christ died for us, all is not lost. And another message is that Christ, who conquered death and Atoned for sin is over all, and is in charge even in the darkest of times... Christ is there. That is the biggest message of all. Another showing of God's presence in this film is the goodness shown in the few who believed in light, in Christ. For example, the family who was Kevin's neighbor. They who chose to believe in light, in Christ even living in such a dark world, they wanted more of scripture because they wanted more light of Christ in their lives. This happens because both Kevin and the family are learning the principle taught in 1 John 4:16 (KJV) 16. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. .... 17. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear... 18. We love him (God), because he first loved us. The manifestation of God's power in the lives of Kevin and this little family is plain as day. It does not require a larger then life moment. It is very touching, personal and effectively delivered. Another one that people might miss the first time they see it is the cat coming back to Kevin's friend, which was not orchestrated by anyone, not Kevin, not the Benefactor (Satan), only God could bring it back after so many years. It was teaching that God is in the details. Even the tiniest and almost insignificant of details. This is a huge blessing, one that we all should pray in gratitude to God for every day of our lives because it is such a big key point about God. Another big one is when Kevin is choosing Christ over his own selfish desires. This is manifested in the movie where he chooses to help Tina over his own will of rejoining his wife. It shows the transformation of the soul toward Christ, our Savior who is mighty to save. And save Kevin He did both body and soul! Just as was done for Job in the Bible. This was a big manifestation of God in the movie. Last but not least, a very obvious place to observe God in grand action is when the Benefactor (Satan) was getting angry and wanted to destroy Kevin, Kevin was lifted out of the depths of suffering (just as Job was) by God, not by his own deeds. With this great blessing Kevin was also blessed with a wife that loved the Lord, (Her song "This little light of mine" show this)In this new union God blessed Kevin exponentially, more then before. He blessed them with a precious children again, stability and happiness. Just as God blessed Job in the Bible. Kevin chose God but had no power on his own to do anything except belive on Christ Jesus and try hard to shine Christ's light in a dark and dreary world. Christ's power saved him and the show is filled with this message. If anyone missed it, thats ok, It's a fast paced movie, maybe go back and watch it again to find all of these wonderful messages.

After reading the comments, I will not be watching this movie, far too often now there is way too many crossovers, and it would be very confusing, especially to a new believer in Christ! When people of the Mormon religion come to my door. The first question I asked them is if they had to make a choice between the book of Mormon in the Bible, which would they throw away and the truth is they would throw away the Bible and that’s a very concerning and dangerous decision, as a Christian, we have to stay true to God’s word, and nothing else. Not at all. Jesus Christ is and was the virgin born God incarnate who has existed in all time with the Father and Holy Spirit in the eternal Trinity. As a man He possessed two natures -human and divine. He lived a sinless life and willingly died on the cross as a sacrifice for the sin of all humanity. (see John 1:1-18; 8:56-59; Phil. 2:6-11; Col. 1:13-22; Heb.1:3; 13:8). The LDS/Mormon Jesus was the spiritual “first born” Son of God in the preexistence. “Every person who was ever born on earth was our spirit brother or sister in heaven. The first spirit born to our heavenly parents was Jesus Christ, so he is literally our elder brother” (Gospel Principles [GP], p. 11).”And now, verily I say unto you, I was in the beginning with the Father, and am the Firstborn” (D&C 93:21). He is also the “only begotten” physical offspring of God by procreation on earth. “Jesus is the only person on earth to be born of a mortal mother and an immortal father. That is why he is called the Only Begotten Son” (GP, p. 64). His atonement (death and resurrection) provides immortality for all people regardless of their faith. “Christ thus overcame physical death. Because of his atonement, everyone born on this earth will be resurrected . . . This condition is called immortality. All people who ever lived will be resurrected, ‘both old and young, both bond and free, both male and female, both the wicked and the righteous’ (The Book of Mormon [BOM], Alma 11:44)” (GP, p. 74). (See GP, pp. 11, 17-19, 61-77.)

Okay, I can't help but feel a bit frustrated by this video and your logic. First of all, let me assume from what I've seen from your videos that you are a pretty reasonable guy. You have a strong faith in God, and you probably are super respectful. For those reasons, I have a lot of respect for you. I do! Now, it's hard for me to take this video seriously because of your initially flawed assumption that the LDS church is not a "Christian" church. You first set the tone and approach the issue by saying that Brock is a member of the LDS church and that "this isn't something he's trying to hide, either," as if this would be something he would want to hide? Then, you go on to state that there is a lot that you disagree with when it comes to the "Mormon" beliefs but that that isn't the reason you're making this video... (Wait, what's the title of the video again?) And then you go on to say we need to have a "keen eye" of what's in Christian media. Heaven forbid there be one little reference or influence to something LDS, yes? Because, in your eyes, the LDS church isn't Christian, right? Sure sounded like it when you said afterwards, "the gap between LDS and Christianity is just way too large..." What's the actual, real name of the LDS church again? "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." Right. A church with Jesus Christ's name in it is just too, too far away from "real" Christianity. Listen, I respect your right to have and freely express opinions about the beliefs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There are plenty of people out there, even many of my own friends, who disagree with the Church. But what's frustrating for me and for many other members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is when someone goes on to make videos, setting somewhat disrespectful tones and approaches, and clearly show that they haven't done as much research on what they disagree with. If you truly knew what the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe and strive to do for the world, then I think you might have a different perspective on that church. And hopefully, you'd be able to see that they do actually fall under the same umbrella of Christianity as, I'm sure, your denomination and many other Christian denominations. In regards to the final remarks you made in the video, Brandon, despite what you might think, it is not a bad thing for influences of "LDS" beliefs to "sneak" into media, just the same as it is not a bad thing for your beliefs to "sneak" into media, any media. I applaud both. We need more Judeo-Christian influence in the world. I also disagree with your interpretation of the scripture in Ephesians compared to 2 Nephi, but since this comment is already too long, I'll skip that discussion. I'd be happy to have it with you, though! I love having those types of discussions to understand your point of view and to help you understand mine. I made this comment to address this for you and for any other people who need clarification. I hope this can help you, Brandon, and I hope you seek to understand as much as you can before forming your opinions about a faith which so many people hold dear. I also hope that, if I made any mistakes in writing this, that you can help me understand a little more too. Thanks for reading and thank you for your faith!

No. I did not think that the ending had this meaning. You expressed that the producer has his own bias. Don't we as varying Christians and individuals all have our own bias? I don't see the need to drag people through the mud specifically to point out differences. "Mormon" isn't even a thing it's a slang word. They are called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They do believe in Christ, the Bible and in my experience are in some ways more Christian in their kindness, service and actions and patience with others beraiding them then most other folks. We as people who profess to follow Christ need to stop bashing and steriotyping other people who differ a bit in thier understanding. Shouldn't we take the opportunity to love all our brothers and sisters in Christ? We don't need to agree, but why do we pursecute others with slang and and continue this false notion that they are not Christian? Are we not all professing to believe in Christ? Did He not say "love one another as I have loved you"? Their are so many differing beliefs inside the Christian community but one thing we all have in common is that our beliefs center on Christ. Can't we just be grateful and happy that good people are producing good movies and that we are not left with only the scary Disney movies and other big movie makers who seem to dislike Christianity alltogether? Let's band together as Christians and help each other. Let's not call people's differing beliefs non-Christian just because they don't believe exactly as we do. If we don't agree with others and some of thier Christian beliefs we can simply reach out as friends, agree in kindness to disagree but we don't have to bash each other. Let us be more like Christ and celebrate His light by being a light of kindness and love even if we don't all agree on the details of Christianity.

Interesting the way you (as well as others) say Dallas is “accused” of being a Mormon as if it’s not a Christian faith. It is. (You HAVE seen the name of the Church, right?) Interesting to me-Why is it always Christians attacking other Christian’s over how we worship/ or do our jobs? I’ve never heard anyone saying Steven Spielberg movies are suspect if he’s a Jew because there is a pretty big gap in our beliefs. Just sayin’… professional or creative work that people do and their religious beliefs do not need to be one and the same thing. They’re movies for entertainment. Not statements of faith 😵‍💫 Thanks at least for saying you’re not hating on the LDS faith though. That helps. Open minds, open minds…Christ wants open minds and hearts. Mormons (not calling the group saints) used to be up front about the distinctives and let rational people decide what they'd believe. There is a movement to gain acceptance as a "normal" expression of Christianity. Sorry, mormon doctrine precludes that. Those in the mormon system are coming for Christian flocks, and Christian leaders are responsible to protect flocks from false teachers. If evangelicals produced stuff as good as what ya'll are doing (seriously, great creative work going on over there!) but tried to pass it off as mormon to you- you would also sound the alarm.

I don't see the need to make that kind of a connection. For one thing, this idea of the Latter-day Saint (a.k.a. Mormon) belief that we are saved by works alone and not by faith in Jesus Christ is just totally inaccurate. The Latter-day Saints believe that faith in Jesus Christ is absolutely essential and that we demonstrate our faith in Jesus through our works, as we strive to live according to His example, through the influence of the Holy Ghost. Knowing that none of us are perfect, and knowing that He makes up the difference, allowing us to return to the presence of God through his atoning sacrifice for our sins. As a Latter-day Saint, after watching the movie last night, I didn't see anything at all in the movie that I would call unique to Latter-day Saint beliefs. I actually didn't like the movie very much, and it didn't meet my expectations (though I am a huge fan of The Chosen series). I think the story line should not have been centered on the 'multiverse' idea. Here is a review I posted recently on another review site for this movie: I saw the movie last night with my adult daughter. It was very intense and though I thought the acting was excellent and overall the movie was compelling, I was disappointed in the story line and the way it was depicted, and the film didn't meet my expectations. I'm also not a fan of multi-verse based sci-fi, and also I don't think that idea meshes well at all with Christianity and the monotheistic religions in general. That aspect of the movie made it difficult to relate to my world view of there being one identity for each person and one chance at life on earth. If one looks at the movie as entirely symbolic, that helps, and it did have a good message overall in that way. I also found the story line very confusing, mainly due to the multiverse aspect. One thing I did like about the story line is that it showed the stark contrast between a Satan-dominated world and our own, though I think it did spend too much time on the Satan-dominated world and the negativity associated with it, and not enough time on the positivity of the world that Kevin chose by being faithful to God. Overall I think the movie script writers could have done a much better job at depicting this story in a modern setting, using the same actors and actresses. I guess my expectations were a little high on this one, since I love the Chosen so much and was expecting something more on that caliber.

So I came to Jesus a year ago and quickly realized how hateful, judgemental, and not Christ-like evangelicals are towards the LDS. It made me really uncomfortable honestly. Y'all are so toxic towards them, more so than any other group of people and I never once felt the spirit when people like you would start this nonsense. Whatever spirit was around would just evaporate from the room immediately anytime they got started and I'd feel so icky being around them. All it did was make me curious about the church. So I started investigating. Started with all the anti stuff and then would look at the other side to be balanced. And well, I'm going to be going to an LDS Church now. The LDS people are beyond any evangelical I've ever met as far as being Christ-like goes. And this kind of toxicity towards other believers is not something you experience with them very often if at all. And only ever in defense of their own faith. I have felt the spirit more with them than I ever did in the other churches I've tried. Videos like this just make it clear where I want to be, so in a way thank you.

I do not hate LDS, or have any bad feeling toward them. I have many LDS friends, but that doesn’t change the Truth. When I search for truth in evidence and the scripture I find Jesus, the God-man who lived in Israel, died in Israel and raised to life to be ascended and joined with the father in Heaven again. Not to come to North America, start the true church here and never leave and any evidence to that fact. I’d love to talk more if you have questions. Even my LDS friends said I was fair in this video.

So many concerns with your take. It's a movie ferhecksake! I get you need to create some perspective in order to even have a RU-vid channel and something to record. But.... It's a movie. You're digging, on this take and it seems a little desperate. Your bias toward The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (the real name, not "Mormon Church") rings through your words again and again despite your frequent claims of "I don't mean to speak badly of them...." Next, when quoting the Book of Mormon, always look for contentext. Just like the Bible scripture you use, there are many places throughout the Book of Mormon (and the Old and New Testament for that matter) that clearly teach that God expects His children to behave. If not, No need for any rules.... Just get rid of the commandments, and go ahead and murder or steal..... It doesn't matter. The grace of Jesus is the only way you can be saved. Do whatever the heck you want! Uh... No! MOST of the Bible is about what we do, or are asked to do. Why not just get rid of everything except the verse that you quote? Nothing else matters after all.... I get a kick out of folks like you professing that I serve a different Jesus. It's a silly perspective really. And..... I recognize, as do all members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, that the grace of our Savior is the only way we will make it. And His grace is offered to all who receive it. You even profess that one must "accept Christ Jesus as your Lord and Savior" in order to be saved. What is that gesture, if not a form of works? It is honestly humorous that folks like you choose this as your platform to differentiate. My testimony to you is that my Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ through the grace of His atonement, death, and resurrection, provided a way for me to spend the eternities in the presence of Our Father. Those gifts are the only way any of us will make it for we all sin and need mediation. I try my hardest, just as I am taught in the Holy Bible, to live a life of service and compassion towards others. I don't do this because I believe I'll earn a spot in Heaven. I do it because God commanded it, and I love Him enough to do as He has asked. I am week and make mistakes, often. I trust that the grace of Jesus will make up the difference, but I can't just sit on my thumbs and expect Him to do the part He expects me to do. So... If you need to twist the teachings I hold dear to draw some form of division between your brand and mine, don't use this as your platform. Truth is, we should be embracing our shared truth and promoting good works and the love of Our Savior, hand in hand. Oh, and again, remember that The Shift is a MOVIE. It's entertainment. Don't get all twisted in order to have content for a RU-vid video. You're too good a man for that!

Why would Latter-day Saint influence in a movie be a bad thing? Why are many supposed “Christians” so quick reject light and truth? Why fight so hard against Jesus’s church? Insane, my dude. Be better.

Mormons center their lives around the teachings of Jesus Christ. That means we are Christian. The gap is not very large between Lds and other Christian's. There is a board on the Chosen who discuss and decide if every religion is represented fairly. Bottom line. We are all children of God and should love each other, give up bias's, refuse to see colors or genders as dividing points. Merry Christmas! Be kind to each other!

Latter-day Saints are Christians. And we believe in God the Eternal Father and his Son, Jesus Christ. You are not acting Christlike.

LDS are NOT Christians. 1. Mormon Theology is NOT Christian Theology. Mormons are Polytheists, while Christians are Monotheistic. 2. Their view of History is opposite to that of Christians. Mormonism not only rejects historic orthodox Christianity, the entire religion is based on the need for such repudiation. 3. Their view of Revelation is not that of Christians. Mormons believe the Bible (the KJV version), but do not consider it inerrant. 4. Their view of man does not align with Christianity. According to Mormon theology, men and women are the spirit sons and daughters of God. 5. They have an obscure and heretical view of God. Teaching there was a long procession of gods and fathers leading up to our Heavenly Father. 6. They have a blasphemous view of Jesus. And that immortality or Godhood Jesus possesses, they are inherited attributes and powers. 7. Their view of Atonement is lessened by works. And they emphasize simply that Christ somehow mysteriously remits our sins through his suffering. 8. Their view of Salvation: The goal of Mormon salvation is not about escaping wrath as much as it is about maximizing our growth and ensuring our happiness. clearlyreformed.org/7-reasons-why-mormonism-and-christianity-are-not-the-same/

What is the Holy Spirit according to LDS beliefs?

According to your false doctrine, the Messiah, Yeshua HaMashiach, or Jesus Christ, would be born in Jerusalem. That can be found in the Book of Mormon; Alma 7꞉10. Which means, you are disciples of a different Yeshua altogether. Because He was, according to the historical and Biblical account, prophesied and born, in Bethlehem. In keeping with the political climate of the 19th and 20th centuries, Latter-Day Saint founder Joseph Smith envisioned Jesus as white, as reflected in Latter-Day Saint texts and portrayals of Jesus. However, we know Yeshua was from the Tribe of Judea (Judah), which would mean He was of a darker complexion and had darker hair and eyes. Again, another false revelation by Joseph Smith. Then there is his prediction about the temple in Missouri. One he said would be built in his lifetime; nope, not until this generation did that happen. Are you aware of what God says about false prophets? Deuteronomy 18:22 "If the prophet speaks in the Lord’s name but his prediction does not happen or come true, you will know that the Lord did not give that message. That prophet has spoken without my authority and need not be feared." Also, Deuteronomy 4:2 “Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.” And we all know that Joseph rewrote the New Testament with the Book of Mormon, and added prophets to the Old Testament, prophets nobody in Israel had ever heard of. "If a prophet or someone who has dreams arises among you and proclaims a sign or wonder to you, and that sign or wonder he has promised you comes about, but he says, ‘Let us follow other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us worship them,’ do not listen to that prophet’s words or to that dreamer. For the Lord, your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul. You must follow the Lord your God and fear Him. You must keep His commands and listen to His voice; you must worship Him and remain faithful to Him. That prophet or dreamer must be put to death, because he has urged rebellion against the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the place of slavery, to turn you from the way the Lord your God has commanded you to walk. You must purge the evil from you." Deuteronomy 13:1-5 "and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which is described in this book." Revelation 22:19 covers the rest of the audacious things Joseph Smith did to pervert the Gospel. 7 HUGE fundamentals differ between Mormonism and Christianity. 1. View of History 2. View of Revelation 3. View of Man 4. View of God 5. View of Christ 6. View of Atonement 7. View of Salvation Mormons are Polytheists, while Christians are Monotheistic. Your gods were all human at some point and came from various planets. Zoltar to name one. And, they believe their good works can merit them becoming a god of a planet all their own. "I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee: and I will not enter into the city." Hosea 11:9, see God is NO man... only through His Incarnation in Jesus. That is in complete contrast to the Biblical narrative. As there is One God, the Eternal Creator of the Universe and everything in it. "The Christ followed by the Mormons is not the Christ followed by traditional Christianity. Many of the Christian Churches indeed worship a different Jesus Christ than is worshiped by the Mormons” - LDS General Authority Bernard Brockbank, 147th General Conference, The Ensign, May 1977 pg.26. Even your general authority admits you are following another Yeshua. And what does scripture say would happen in the "latter days", pun intended, "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect." Matthew 24:24 Sorry, but I am commanded by my God, YHWH, to judge ALL spirits. So before you say I am not being Christlike, you should know that one of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit is the Discernment of spirits. 1 Corinthians 12:10 Just because you use His name, does not mean you are true followers of Yeshua. Jesus and Lucifer are not spiritual brothers, as Mormonism teaches. Satan was an angel, a creation of God Almighty, who tried to become a god and was cast down to earth for his pride. Well, thousands of years later, a mere human, Joseph Smith, claims he can become one! Humans have never been immortal. We were created. "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7 Your false doctrine teaches we are all God's children from everlasting to everlasting. But the truth is, before accepting Christ as our Lord, we are all enmity to God. Enmity. And our Good Works are but filthy rags before a Righteous God. Complete opposite of the lies you have been spoon-fed. Odd. That would make Joseph Smith an Anti-Christ for denying Yeshua's right to being God's Only Begotten Son. And for elevating Lucifer to god status. Mormons are as much Christians as Jehovah's Witnesses and Muslims. And the reason why more Mormons do not leave their faith is because of their apostasy laws. Mormonism requires blood to be shed if someone apostatizes from them... most false religions do. But the Bible says, "It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace." Hebrews 6:4-6 See, no bloodshed, just disgraceful towards Yeshua.

How unchristian of you, refusing to call members of a church Christian, who follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and are called by the name of Jesus Christ, and fulfill more of the collegiate Webster's dictionary definitions, and more fully fulfill the requirements for the definitions of what a Christian is, than most, if not any other church calling themselves Christians. All because of arbitrary requirements of some personal definition for what a Christian is. Last I looked, for something to apply, it only had to meet one definition of that something. So not only are "Mormons" Christians, for it only requires a belief that Jesus Christ was a real person, no other qualifiers, so are Jews, Hindus, Muslims and Buddhists, if not others, who all believe Jesus Christ was a real person, and a great teacher and prophet. Another definition for Christian is someone who is friendly and helpful, as I pointed out you were not meeting the requirements for the definition of in the first line of my comment. Now as for that Bible verse that Evangelicals butcher so badly, "For by grace are ye saved through FAITH:;and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast." That's grace through faith, not grace alone. So what does the Bible tell us about faith? In Galatians 5: 6 it says "faith that worketh by love." 1 John 4: 7-8 "Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love." James 2: 14-17 "What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister by naked, and destitute of daily food. And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone." James 2: 22 "Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?" James 2: 24 "Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only." James 2: 26 "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." So it is by grace through faith, and faith requires works of love to save. Yet as Galatians 5: 6 says "For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision; but faith that worketh by love." Yet it is not of works, lest any man should boast. Why? Because two men can do all the same things, one because it's the thing to do, and the other because they truly love God and their neighbors, yet only the second will receive grace. So as important as the works are, the reason behind them is more important. John 14: 15 "If ye love me, keep my commandments." John 14: 21 "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him." 1 John 3: 15 "He that hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him." 1 John 4: 20 "If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?" Jesus Christ said of his true followers John 15: 17-21 "These things I command you, that ye love one another. If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his Lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; If they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me." Mathew 5: 10-12 "Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you." If your leaders aren't being persecuted and accused of all manner of evil falsely, you have to wonder why Satan doesn't care what they are doing. But the leaders of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints are being accused of things just for being distantly related to those who have done terrible things, not because of anything they themselves have done. The world is constantly looking for any angle to use against The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints. The devil fights hardest against his greatest threat. Yet The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints is by far the most charitable of any church calling themselves Christians, though they never say so themselves. It's members live about 10 years longer than any other church calling themselves Christians. They are the most devout of any church calling themselves Christians. And they are the most Bible literate of any church calling themselves Christians. And currently The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints is the second fastest growing denomination in America, according to the National Council Of Churches.
