We’re sitting down to chat about the things that happened on our first full day at The Cabins at Fort Wilderness all before lunch! Yep, we haven't even gotten our day started, and we've already run into several problems that left us scratching our heads.
As always, we believe in being honest and open with you about our experiences. So, we wanted to take some time to share what played out. We encountered electrical issues with our brand-new cabin that reoccurred throughout the day even after being “resolved” initially. On top of that, we found that getting these issues fixed took a significant amount of time because the different sections of the resort seemed disconnected and were unable or unwilling to communicate unless absolutely necessary. Then there was the situation with the towels at the pool, which later resulted in front dest Cast Members looking at us like we were crazy for not knowing that towels wouldn't be provided. . . but we only just scratch the surface on that.
We’ll dive deeper into our thoughts on these issues once we’ve had a chance to organize them. For now, here’s what happened as it happened. Let us know your thoughts and what you would have done to resolve these issues in the comments below!

Sheesh! Very sorry to hear this, guys. You both handled yourselves well and with class. 8/10 others would have lost their you know what’s. This why you’re the best!

I’m glad they handled the issue with the golf cart sucks it took 2 hours but atleast they helped u, gotta keep in mind it’s a massive campground im sure your not the only one with problems and complaints. And as far as the towels go, this is why im against the cabins being DVC because it’s just not a “luxury” resort. This is a CAMPGROUND people need to consider that. I live about 2 hours from Hershey park in PA. They also have a pretty big campground with cabins and many other resorts that offer transportion to the park kinda just like Disney. If you want to stay in one of there cabins in the campground they require you to bring your own BED SHEETS, PILLOWS, and TOWELS……crazy right. This is what campgrounds are and it’s just a totally different experience that might not be for some. THIS SHOULDNT BE DVC imo

I've stayed in some campgrounds that had cabins and whatnot where you have to bring your own linens over the years, but I always ended up staying in a primitive site if not boondocking. 😆⛺️ [oh yeah. . . I've had some adventures with a "A" traveling around the US] You're right though. . . this is what camping is. . . . but it's not what DVC is. . . . . and they can't have both. If they want to provide campground quality and amenities, they can't charge DVC prices. If they want to charge DVC prices, they can't provide campground quality and amenities.

What’s really odd is that we stayed in one of the cabins several years ago and we all remember towels being provided at the pools then. We’re visiting again next week and I’m glad this has been mentioned by a couple of bloggers as we had not planned on packing beach towels since it’s never been an issue previously.

Huh. . . that IS weird. I can't say I'm surprised though. There are a lot of things like this that get cut back and then passed off as "the way it always was" to guests like myself who might not know better. At least you found out the info ahead of time though! Now you'll be good to go! We hope you have a great trip! 😄

Having to bring a pool towel should be mentioned before staying at the campground! I would not have been a happy camper either !!! You handle the situation with Grace we have all been there .😊

I agree. Disney sends out quite a few emails to their guests when staying at WDW Resort Hotels or DVC Resorts to prepare them for their stay ahead of their arrival, they absolutely could have notified guests staying at this property of what to expect ahead of time. Thank you. We do our best to handle every situation we are in, no matter good or bad, with as much grace and respect for the people we are working with as possible. 😄

I’ve never even thought about the towels, we just packed beach towels from home and brought them with us both to the pool and one or two with us to the parks. We were driving though so space wasn’t a big concern. The electrical problem to me is a big deal. I’m glad that you finally got a cast member that had a good solution but that sounds like a real headache to get there.
@2foolishmortals
@2foolishmortals 26 дней назад
I know just what you mean! When we travel by car, it's second nature to throw in a few towels, especially 'cause space isn't something we have to concern ourselves with. It's a completely different story when we're flying. I think the thing that really threw us, and like 3 other families we encountered, for a loop is that it's not standard to NOT have towels at DVC or WDW Resorts. I'm right there with you when it comes to electrical issues as well. To be frank, it's unsafe. Especially because the breaker continued to pop throughout the rest of our stay AND we ended up losing power to other major appliances. . . . not good!
@fbueller
@fbueller 26 дней назад
@@2foolishmortals Were any of the other families you met during your stay also talking about the smell of the new cabins? The power issues you experienced are very concerning! I would have tried to move to a different area within FW as a result of the breaker instability.

Our first trip to FW was 14 years ago. Since we only camp it never occurred to me that towels are provided at other Disney resorts. I don't remember there ever being towels. Your experiences getting the golf cart resolved is sadly the way FW has been heading. You are very lucky it only took two hours. Our last trip we had a bus schedule question, asked a lady at the trading post. Her response was that we needed to find a transportation employee and ask them.

Thanks for sharing your experience! You know, that's too bad to hear that the quality of service at FW has been going downhill. I would think that with them transitioning to a DVC Resort would have them stepping it up. . . maybe over time we might see some improvements.

Considering the points to rent those cabins are higher than some other DVC resorts, you'd think you'll get comparable if not better experiences. That's a shame. When coupled with the fact that they closed Trail's End - which was one of our favorite buffets - I don't think anything will bring me to Ft. Wilderness any more.

Hello again! 👋 Yes, this was recorded on July 6th. We checked in to the room on July 5th. Usually, we don't edit and post videos during our stay so that our attention is on the resort/stay and we're not sitting behind a keyboard the whole time. . . so there's a delay. Though, I wanted to make sure I noted the date as The Cabins officially opened on July 1st. 😄

Thanks for this video. I questioned the “deluxeness” of the cabins. Seems like maybe it’s just a better than a tent room. You get running water and better theming than the inside of your tent. I understand though that their target guest isn’t expecting the level of deluxe that I am. Do they qualify for the extra hours like other deluxe guests? I tend to think of DVC as deluxe. 🤔
@2foolishmortals
@2foolishmortals 26 дней назад
Thanks for watching! It makes sense that you would think that, 'cause DVC Resorts ARE considered to be in the "deluxe" category. That now includes "The Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness" and yes, guests staying at The Cabins [but only those that have transitioned over to DVC, not the old ones still in use] do have access to Extended Hours for Deluxe Guests.

We are avid Disney fans and DVC members since 1997. With Lookout Cay and the its fly problem and now this Disney seems to be sinking into mediocrity. They need to get back to the original mission statement.
@2foolishmortals
@2foolishmortals 26 дней назад
I haven't heard about what's going on at Lookout Cay, but I will say that I couldn't agree more! We've been members since 2001 and DVC is definitely not what it was when we bought in. The sad part, at least in my opinion, is that some of the more recent members seem to be just fine with this and willing to defend it. . . so I don't think that motivates DVC to do anything more than sink further. It's too bad.

This is one reason I don't even consider staying in the cabins. Even though I think they look nice and relaxing, my suspicion has always been that because they are all spread out in a somewhat secluded area, the services there might tend to be a little different than if you were staying at an actual resort hotel with more cast members working within the resort at all of the service areas. I'm not saying the cast members at FWC don't do a good job; I just think they are more limited in the available service, and possibly leadership, areas (i.e. the ability of the cast member in the first call to handle swapping out the golf cart, which is eventually what they ended up doing for you in the end... but making you wait extra time to get to that conclusion. I also seem to think this is a hit or miss situation between resorts too. Some resorts, I think, just has better management, and by extension, better cast member staff than others. And it's not necessarily better all the time at deluxe resorts than moderate and value resorts. Just some of the resorts are consistently more attentive to guests and better equipped to deal with urgent situations than others. In your situation, and others in similar circumstances, it's unfortunate because something like that, especially at the start of your stay, can often times hurt the rest of the feel of your stay, even though you may have a great time through the remainder. It just can stay in your head. Sorry that was your experience.

The golf cart thing should have been resolved with one call, unless there was no other carts available. The towel thing is completely ridiculous. I just got back from a beach resort and I was amazed by towel service. Sounds like a small thing but it’s not! The resort we stayed had fresh towels everywhere and they were almost too persistent in changing them in our room
@GWM9930

Agree with this golf cart fiasco should have been resolved immediately and with one phone call. They are staying in a DVC property, not a “value resort”.

@@RoastBeefSandwich I hear you! It is still hard for me to put my arms around the fact that Disney is promoting cabins as being a DVC property. These "DVC" cabins do not compare to any other DVC properties. It's like comparing apples and oranges.
@2foolishmortals
@2foolishmortals 26 дней назад
@hasenmyer I agree. One call to the front desk should have been sufficient to get the issue resolved. Even if there were no golf carts available at the moment, I feel like that's something the front desk should have worked out and gotten back to us rather than putting it on us to resolve. I'm glad to hear that we're not the only ones who think the towel thing is ridiculous. I'll be honest with you, we got pretty hung up on the fact that there were no towels. I even tried to call down using the house phone to get some brought out, but no one picked up. The thing that's most frustrating for me about this though isn't that I walked back to the cabin wet or got water all over the floor, it's that at hotels around the country towels by the pool are pretty standard. Here at WDW they are at every WDW & DVC hotel. Not here though. I even confirmed with the front desk and they said there are no towels because "we don't provide towels for guests at the campground". My guess is that the logic here is to prevent campers from taking the towels, but if that's a true concern this pool should be DVC only.

Honestly, I'm absolutely blown away by how disinterested Disney was in resolving the issues we ran into during our stay. You'd think that being a NEW property for DVC and having a 20+ year DVC Member staying for a few nights would incentivize them to make this the best experience possible so that it would convince said member to buy a contract. . . . . apparently not.
@MissMyMusicAddiction
@MissMyMusicAddiction 26 дней назад
@@2foolishmortals i wonder if the CM's were not trained/empowered to spoil guests. i call it spoiling, but it's the kind of handling of a guest that i would expect CM's to adhere to. if you receive a request from a guest, you stay with that guest until the issue is resolved, and you move heaven and earth to resolve it, immediately. period. this isn't complicated. this is the way. i had an issue, during my last trip, a few weeks ago. five - FIVE CM's shrugged their shoulders and did not make an effort to help. i thought that was very weird and atypical. maybe i was wrong.
