Ur husband is Jerome Deupree!!? That’s so awesome. I love his drum parts so much. Simple, yet very difficult to get the feel for. He plays the drums on cure for pain as well right?
I discovered Morphine about 6 months ago and I’ve been hooked since. It’s one of my go to bands right now, and my usual go to is metal. Great band and Mark’s solo and other projects are also solid. R.I.P. Sandman
I grew up a metal head. But found out about Morphine in the mid/late 90s. Lucky enough to get to see them a couple of times. Still one of my favorite bands of all time. I'm a sucker for saxophone too. You gotta check out Budos Band if you're metal heads and like sax. TRUST ME!!!!
Hey guys, love this switcheroo again. Thanks for turning me on to this band, very cool. Reminds me of Me and That Man, Nergal's other band, same kind of vibe...
Thank you guys, this made me emotional. I was introduced to Morphine in 96, at an underground record store in Ankara Turkey of all places. I always check your videos hoping to see some Rammstein stuff but this was great. 👏
Rare to see a reaction to this band, nice one. Morphine have some great tunes. They certainly do have a distinct sound. I read that Sandman was apparently stabbed in the chest during a mugging while driving a cab. I think his collapse and subsequent death on stage possibly had something to do with that. Low rock was the perfect way to describe them.
so so glad i got to see morphine in may of '95 ... i got hooked on cure for pain shortly after it released ... and they are still to this day one of my most listened to bands. as a bass pretender (not a player by any means) this low rock sound attached to me and took root. there is a great docu out on YT about sandman & morphine ...
Something else that is pretty cool is Dana the sax player plays on the incredible Bow Thayer’s album Spend It All with none other the legendary Band drummer Levon Helm !! Dana is on Wingless Angels and The Way That It Swings. Snakebite is another great track
I LOVE Morphine and this is my favorite song by them!! Awesome choice Judson!!! ❤ Richard you are thinking of dusk til dawn because of that SEXY scene and this music is smoky, sensual, sexy sound!!! I get the correlation!!
Loved the changing of roles! I've only heard one Morphine song and it was off a Jack Kerouac tribute album called Kicks Joy Darkness. I dug it. Speaking of noise, I'd love to see a reaction of some Mike Patton. Either Jizzlober from Faith No More or Ave Satani from Fantomas. Love your channel.
Yes! this is one of those random songs spotify pushed me hard in like 2016 out of the blue. its very cool seeing people groove to those very personal feeling hidden gems we all have on our playlists
I always loved Morphine. The idea to have an acoustic approach to songs that could easily been classic 90s hardcore songs (think NoMeansNo) is great and unique.
MORPHINEEEE ! So surprised to have that cool band in here :D :D :D !!! The whole album is so great ! I discovered the band with my first stoner band bassist who loved Morphine, there is some genious in their music. And indeed Candy is fabulous, reminds me a little of QOTSA or Melvins for no reason ^^ Thanks for that Judson !
This was the backing song to a Miller MGD commercial back in the day. Heard them on college indie radio station in the early nineties and was forever “hooked”. They were also heavy in the soundtrack of the movie “Get Shorty”
Oh Man! That was great fun, both the swap and the song, this is by far my favorite video of you guys so far! Keep it up! ✌️ Also the association to From dusk till dawn, may come from the sound being a bit similar to Tito & Tarantula, which play after dark, and other songs used on the movie
Oh if you a sucker of sax highly recommend my favourite live band Gallon Drunk with the great Terry Edwards on sax and trumpet they have a very similar swing to Morphine
Can’t believe Richard had never heard Morphine. More reaction channels need to be covering Morphine, not even hear Rick Beato mention them. If Richard likes sax he should check out Rasheed Roland Kirk, he would play 3 saxes at the same time.
Nothing like watching two great musicians listening to great music I like this angle Judson teach Richard about a band named savatage and another named testament
Awesome, never heard of them, love the song. Gonna get more. Definite Tom Waits , Twin Peaks OST vibe to them. Also thinking Mark Lanegan with the husky dusky vocals circa Screaming Trees Sweet Oblivion era..and definitely All Them Witches' tracks "Diamond" & "The Death of Coyote Woman"....thanks Judson.
I actually went and bought this album, it’s pretty good. Standouts are all wrong, I’m free now, cure for pain and Thursday. Protest the Hero - Blindfolds Aside.
Cool flipped format! Can you please revisit animals as leaders with some of their more heavier stuff (CAFO/ Tempting time ect...) as Judson only heard their softer songs.
I get where Richard is coming from, it seems like a song Tarantino would put in one of his films. Its got a sleazy, noire kind of vibe to it but with a heavier edge to it in some parts. Great song, album and band, started listening to them in college and haven't stopped since!
These guys made it at a time when almost everything on rock radio was some copycat grunge band, using a baritone sax for lead melodies...when everyone was sick of all the horns in 80s rock. Complete badasses in their own way.
Criminally underrated and underappreciated band one of the absolute best of the nineties. For something completely different would love you guys to check out Cardiacs and the genius of Tim Smith the English Frank Zappa though with better tunes
I have heard of Morphine, but never heard them. Totally thought they were some electronic disco rave group, like Prodigy or something. NOPE totally wrong. I dug it. It's odd the makings of a jazz trio, that isn't arranged like jazz, but it's still jazz. It's cool. The bass had a real sinister growl to it.
Morphine was so weirdly refreshing back then. Too bad Sandman didn't find a cure for his pain..Most important question though: Did these guys hear about Whitewater or Gardenia by Kyuss yet? Btw, the jazz intro was pure gold
Thank you Judson, for turning me on to these guys! I'm a big metalhead, but when I'm in the mood, Morphine would fit right in with my Nick Cave albums.
Judson make Richard react to All Wrong that song has a sax solo with a wah wah pedal on it, Its, its the only song in the world to have that xD, or to Whisper or Cure For Pain or The Saddest song please. Such an awesome band he's gonna love them :)
From Dusk Till Dawn is weird, especially so for me, because when I think of that movie I think of three things. 1. George Clooney. 2. Selma Hayek doing that sensual dance of hers 3. Quentin's foot fetish... Good song though, sounds like some country and some kind of mix of jazz or big band.
