Wow ...this takes me back. This was my second year as Drum major at Morris Brown. I can vividly remember NSU's cheerleaders meeting me at the bus with 1 dozen yellow roses and 1 dozen sun flowers. It was all love and respect! Long live HBCU'S!!!!
Man, that freaking arm, shoulder, and hand pop like action Morris Brown Drum Major's doing @04:35 COLD AF! As of today, I have yet to see ANY marching band DM's style of march that can touch or compare to MBC DM style of march! I mean, whomever came up with that shit did that for real! Real talk! 👏🔥🔥
Marshall Smith Yea it was amazing! And whatever MBC DM style of march called, its COLD AF! I was blown away by this entire botb! Props to both bands, but especially MBC. They were amazing!
DAMN!!!...who needs the football teams?!? This was incredible! Nothing like the sight & sound of a HBCU marching band. This is a tradition that we must forever embrace and celebrate.
This was by far the best battle I've been to. No one knew who Morris Brown was when they got there. There was so much respect for them when they left. I'm glad someone digitized this for the masses. Can't replace the live though.
25:27 the moment NSU fans realized Morris Brown was for real. 26:31 is where we turned to each other and said "shit just got real. " Bonus: Also there was a buff dude in the crowd singing to a chick loud as hell. That's what the crowd was really reaction to. He was standing on the chair, climbing over people and shit.
This was one of my top 3 moments marching with MBC (00-02). Norfolk State was AMAZING and I'm still a fan to this day. Their entrance, their performance, their sectionals, music arrangements, and musicianship. All top notch. NOT to take ANYTHING away from NSU... I want people to know that we were not used to that format. My section (French Horns) were sadly TERRIBLE. We threw together fanfares at like the week prior and half of us HATED the ones that were chosen but we had to rock with it. Still it is what it is and that moment will forever be in my heart.
although this is old this was a tight azz battle and these days of the HBCU marching bands are over....savior the memories and keep posting videos. NSU!!!
+Godivabiz Biz I was in the Legion when Morris Brown came to NSU. We were ready for them. We saw them first in 2001. The crowd my not have been ready but the Legion was ready.
Godivabiz Biz I agree. That battle in '01 was one for the ages. NSU shocked MBC that year. Both programs knew what time it was by '02! We need these two bands to come back and relive their prime
Godivabiz Biz enjoyed this battle immensely. two great bands bringing out the best in each other . this is what HBCU SHOULD BE ! iron sharpening iron . refinining and purifying each other .👍
This was my crab year at MBC! I wish I could rewind this night. Epic to say the least. One of the best battles to date. Both of these bands would’ve ate the entire SWAC alive, then and NOW!
Omg!! Morris Brown College has earn major respect from me. Some people didnt even j ow who these guys were me after watching this I will give nsu their props but MBC dominated then in every area down to the cheerleaders. HBCUs are really missing a major part of that legacy and life line I really pray got this institute to get back on their feet and prospering better then ever and it shall be down in Jesus name.
Lmao I just realized MBC trombones clowned horny horns for the weak Apollo appearance. That was nice, they did their homework on norfolk. Norfolks trombones responded well tho. Gotta love this!
Just Lookin back when MEAC Would Smack anything in tha WAC SWAC . 😯 ASK SU what happened when MOB visited their house n gave them dolls tha bussiness with tha bubblin brown sugar then unplugged tha jukebox 😁.
Just Lookin MoB drumline tha GOAT THO. NSU line was superb , but think MoB was bringin that ZULU Funk percussion. drumlines were never the same after Purple Haze 😒
This must be some P.W.I. College band competition! This is definitely not a H.B.C.U. Battle of the bands! Somebody please wake me up when they finish boring me!
I beg to differ Starfinger. This event took place AFTER the movie "Drumline" was released. So people knew who Morris Brown was. My beef with the whole thing is that they did the same material from the movie here. Especially the drumline!! You can't come at Million Dollar Funk Squad like that.
But it's only right that they did their performance from the movie. That movie inspired me and millions of other children going into middle school to want to get in the marching band. Before that movie kids in middle schools didn't know about what marching bands were really like. The movie was a great tool to revive music programs all over the country. And I'm from Virginia where some of the best Bands come out. I went to Henrico and we had our run of Championships from 06-10 They compared our sound to Norfolk State. But since then the program has declined. We need another drumline movie to motivate the youngins again. Too much Killin and drilling going on

+mrwright82 This is correct. The movie was in early promotion at the time. The band world heard rumors that the movie was coming out but no one had seen the trailer yet. The material was from the movie no one had any idea yet. Still a great routine!

This battle was November 2002. The movie was released December 2002. We didn’t perform “Drumline” material in our shows. We did our show’s material in “Drumline.” Big difference homie
You know, for as many times this was posted I never saw it. It was before the movie and they were all wearing Drumline hats. They did play some of the same stuff from the movie and some of the deleted scenes.
