@@Badgertronix My point EXACTLY!!! For me... this would be a big step up / more stress. For you, it's a step back down... able to take things slow, attack from whatever angle you want. Your day job... one wrong decision and oops. I couldn't handle it. You should record a full work day & post it!!!

Corrosion can reasonably be expected to be much worse on the passenger side of a car. That's the side that gets bathed in whatever's in the gutter. The middle of the road is usually much drier.

I wish i was civilised enough to get into New Zealand. Your cars are so clean and the queen is on the money. I'm so jealous. 😭 I've seen 6 year old cars rustier than that here. Looking forward to the rust repair and painting.

Looks like no major surprises at least! I'd say even those sills don't really look too bad. It might require sandblasting to clean out the inside areas without cutting the outer pieces out, but that'd be something to consider. If they're solid, i'd try to avoid making extra work. obviously there are spots at the ends that need to be dealt with, but if the rest is still solid, that's a good thing.
@Badgertronix
@Badgertronix 5 лет назад
Thanks, I sham be attacking it with the sand blaster soon. Hopefully they clean up OK. Cheers

Wow, can't believe you jet washed it & still had the car left! 😉😁 When I had mine, I had planned on getting it chemical dipped/stripped & see what was left. Pretty sure a sand blast would have just reduced the car to dust 😕 It was nice to hear you say 'proper job' the old girl deserves that 👍

I wish we could find old cars with that little rust here in Eastern Canada. The salt really takes it's toll. Those panels under the doors ( we would call them inner rocker panels) look solid. I would just clean them up with a flapper wheel or wire brush etc. the best you can an then treat them with a good rust convertor. Rust check them after the job is done and they will last forever. Those panels are hidden by the outer rocker panels anyway. We have saved panels rusted much worse than that. Just make sure they are solid. Good luck and that is a nice old car to restore. Andy from Nova Scotia.

Wow, it is looking good. So much better than I expected. In '73 I worked 58 hours a week and took home $70. But rent was only $100 per month for a 2 bedroom apartment. My 69 Malibu payment was $45 a month. The good ole days. 😉

You're changing the glass rubber/seals anyway so just cut the outer part of the seal off with a scalpel. This will allow you to remove the glass easily without putting undue strain on it. Coincidentally our 1966 4dr which we bought on Saturday arrives today. For parts I'll be using "Tom Roy" who specialises in parts and restoration. However I live in North Yorkshire England so perhaps a little too far to nip down (or up!) for parts. Regards Paul.
@Badgertronix

Yes I'll be cutting the rubbers out, I just want an extra set of hands to make handling it a bit easier. Chances are I'll be ordering parts from the UK. Enjoy your new car 😁

Just cut the screens out as the rubber is being replaced. Go up the screen on the outside with a blade / stanley knife and cut along all the way round. remove the strip of cut rubber and push on a top corner on the inside and it will gently pop out and you can even hold it while easing it out. :). Not a bad car to restore. Not a lot of welding to do really.
