Well done Alex remember one man can't move a mountain but two men and a wheelbarrow can. Glad you got yourself a good welder to fix her up Kev

Lovely Jubbly, great news with spring around the corner and lighter evenings to get the work done.

Good on you for saving the Minor. At least panels are all available easily and not overly expensive. You will find more grot once your welder starts cutting. It'll be a nice companion for George.

Getting ready to start restoration on a recently purchased 57 minor convertible. My tasks are similar to yours. Good luck!

I bought a 4 door, split screen, 1954 Minor last May. It had a lot of work done to it. While it still needs a lot more work, thankfully it’s nowhere near the task you have ahead of you Alex. I wish you all the best.

so far, i can see front chassis legs, engine tie plates, that's the ones with the circles in, inner wings, floor pans, boot floor, sills, jacking points, all these panels are available from Andrew eggleton. this will be a long term project, but once they all replaced, and waxolyed it will last.

I would love a MM but at my age, I would need one that is solid as I can't roll around on the floor anymore.

Ilse, an interesting name! I agree Alex, Ilse deserves to be put right! And she will be better than new!

Thats great news you can save the Minor! The floors do look very poor although the rest of the car doesn't look too bad considering the age of the vehicle. Can't wait to see more videos on this car👍😎

I think you’re crazy…. I’m all for saving cars but if it has no sentimental tie you’ll be better off buying one that someone else has “wasted” money on…. I wish I’d paid more for a good Allegro originally over spending way over 4k for a car that’s probably worth 2 now….. That said I also congratulate you for doing it I just hope you don’t regret it.

Wow - it looks a bit daunting but do-able, because as you know all panels are available. I'm nearing the end of my own 8 year restoration, but my car was imported to the US in 1959 and seems to have survived better. Nevertheless, I did replace one chassis leg and some of the floor panels. Love the channel; good luck Alex! ru-vid.com/group/PLP7_T2BUdppLQFMsgd19grhvDzfDUOa5K

I don't like to rain on your parade, but I hope you know and can trust your welder well, as the man hours required to cut out and replace all those panels will really add up. You may constantly keep getting new estimates of cost as time goes by, Probably to hundreds of man hours, to do it properly. To people who an do the welding themselves, the time spent doesn't cost, as it's a labour of love, but to someone who makes a living repairing cars, they can't afford the luxury of working for peanuts.. At a commercial welder's hourly rate, the cost could easily exceed what you would spend on buying a restored version, or one that's not ever had such a rough life, rust -wise. And the best way to do this work is to strip the car down to the shell, get it sandblasted and on to a rotisserie to really see and gain access to the deeper rust and keep the alignment of the body right. I learnt welding many years ago, in order to restore my car, and also did a friend's 850 Minor. It took six months of all weekend working, literally hundreds of hours dirty, hard work, all for no cost, just friendship. But I estimate it would have cost the price of a new car in welders' hourly fees. On a happier note, getting new repro panels will speed up the work. I had to fabricate most of the panels as Minors then were not considered old or classic enough to warrant production of them (Australia in the early 60's.) Best of luck to you, though.

My welder has years of experience, and has welded up Morris minors a few times. With the correct panels he's happy to get stuck into it. And Im not aiming for concourse. Just solid and safe. If I wanted a gleaming example I would have just saved and bought something else. This is about saving one, not having the best example. I hope I can achieve something from it. We'll see...

@@AllThingsAlex Ah.. I see. Sorry about the comment. I know restorers are not all millionaires who can afford to pay for top level restorations. But saving cars the modest way, getting them back on the road, not perfect, but saved from the crusher, is great.
