When this album was being written and recorded (2005-2006), Morrissey was living in Rome and was seeing a man he calls Gelato, but who is actually called Gabriele. He owns a restaurant in Rome and he and Moz were frequently seen together at the time. Morrissey writes about the affair briefly in his autobiography. Although, characteristically, he doesn't go into much detail. I've never thought of Morrissey as particularly secretive about his sexuality. He said as early as 1983 that he was interested in men and women. I've always sensed that his interest is mostly for men, though.
Fun fact: the strings at the end were Ennio Morricone's, who did the string arrangement for the entire song but then Morrissey decided not to use his arrangement. For next week's suggestion: 'Wide to Recieve' off of Maladjusted, the first song written about the internet!

I love your channel, man. Considering that you seem to like The Smiths/Pulp/Manics etc, you should try The Libertines. A very important band with a dense mythology and fantastic lyrics. All the best to your and your channel.

This is the best song on this album by a country mile and very different to the rest of the album, so do not think that this is the mood for the whole album, it is real shame it was not in this mood, the rest are just rockers.
That's not entirely true. This album also has Life is a Pigsty, I'll Never Be Anybody's Hero Now and To Me You are a Work of Art, none of which are rockers by any stretch.
Can I suggest The Bluetones and specifically their first album Expecting To Fly. It knocked oasis off number 1 in 1996 and is at the same time underrated and a classic of the Britpop era. It's much more accomplished and mature than a lot of what was released around then. You could start with the big singles, Slight Return and Bluetonic but I'd really recommend the opening track Talking to Carry and the album track Carnt Be Trusted. With what you've been listening to I think you'll really like this
