As a Roman Catholic traditionalist, I disagree with a lot of what Morrissey says, but nobody can deny the power of his voice and music. It’s amazing, and that’s something no one can deny.

What's not to love about it? Like him or not, this is pure gold. How many mass market pop stars, regardless of age or nationality, are still delivering such great stuff nowadays? And his voice just seems to get better and better. Really, forget his personality if you must, but let's face it: the man is a genius.

I get what Moz is saying and I'm glad he's not being silent about it. He's speaking for the underdogs on this planet -- the children, animals, nature, the poor. Lately he's pissed off a lot of people, but what he's saying isn't political. Love cannot be politicized (people can try to but love is beyond this world, not made by us); love is a gift and it does feel like it's on its way out. But I will not resign myself to that thought. Love is an energy and energy cannot be destroyed. Maybe it seems like love is moving away, but maybe we're moving away from love.

Morrissey's band is fantastic, and the ending of this song is brilliant. "Gaze with fondness on the wrong one." Very Morrissey indeed.

Classic track, currently my favourite on the astounding new album. Even now, after decades in the business, Morrisey is still growing and bringing something new to the table.

From its onset, from his juvenilia, Morrissey’s music was, is, and remains infused with poignancy and plaintiveness; and revelation. Here again the revelation, the whole meaning of this song, in the last lyric, jumps out of its box like a sullen puppet on a spring: “the wrong one, the wrong one”. In how many ways can unrequited love be fashioned into a pop song? Hundreds and hundreds.
