Johnny Marr was an amazing guitarist and musician. But without a doubt Morrissey was the backbone of the Smiths, his song writing was and still is elite.
My first girlfriend, she exposed me to Morrissey & the music of the Smiths. Bless her forever! I was HEAVY METAL & nothing else for years, once I was introduced to The Smiths & Morrissey, my eyes & ears collectively were open forever!
Yeah I was a metal or two, till the best girl ever, turn me on I remember she used to write the names of bands on her letters wham UK cure Smith's The list goes on and on but each and every band was part of the second wave from Europe commonly known as the new wave :-)
Tomorrow Will it really come? And if it does come Will I still be human? All I ask of you is one thing that you never do Would you put your arms around me? (I won't tell anyone) Tomorrow Does it have to come? All I ask of you is one thing that you'll never do Would you put your arms around me? (I won't tell anybody) Tomorrow And what must come before... Oh, the pain in my arms Oh, the pain in my legs Ooh, my shiftless body Tomorrow It's surely nearer now? You don't think I'll make it I never said I wanted to! Well did I? Oh, the pain in my arms Oh, the pain in my legs Oh, yeah; oh, yeah No, yeah; no, yeah Through my shiftless body Tomorrow Tomorrow All I ask of you...oh... Is : would you tell me that you love…
Freddy-Wow! Jimmy Page is my musical God and Led Zep is my band! Had NO idea Page was involved with this brilliant piece of music, but it makes sense considering how freakin' perfect it is...in every way! Thanks for info!@@JCA-Z
1993....first time hearing this gem for me.... I was a VERY late bloomer. 29 and I could count the number of times I had been on a date on my hands! Morrisey....The Smiths were a solid soundtrack for my own angst and insecurities..... 1993....the year I met my beloved bride....we have been married 28 years...
Something about this video is timeless. Maybe it's because it's in black and white, maybe it's the architecture, maybe it's the clothes and hair - it looks like it could have been filmed any time from the 1950s until now. Only the cars would seem out of place. It's just perfect.
+PazzaTV Anybody I know who knows anything of The Smiths, either knows one song/a few songs of their career, know the name of the band but don't listen to them or Moz at all or listen to them religiously but don't associate with Morrissey's solo work. At all. When he writes songs like this, how can you ignore it on any level??? It gets to me so much. I wish more people could understand his honesty.
I'll always consider the Smiths catlogue Morrisseys best work, especially lyrically. Love this song though, one of my favorites of Morrisseys solo work.
+Sam Morey that's morrissey's excellent band from the your arsenal days.. Alain Whyte, Boz Boorer, Gary Day and Spencer Cobrin .. not just any random dudes.. my personal fav of all his backing line ups..
After studying the images, I can tell you where they recorded it. Ruelle de la Halle aux Herbes, turn left, Ruelle de la Boucherie, turn left, Rue Colonna d'Istria, in the old center of Nice... Look on google maps 3D and you will recognize some buidings and doors.
My friends in Vancouver BC in the late 80's and early 90's thought Morrisey and the Smiths were cool. We all dressed like him. It was a great era to be alive.
Mark.E.Smith's favourite Moz song off Your Arsenal; he described it as a 'chocolate box of a song; this is the sort of thing he should be concentrating on - the voice, the drive'
He has so many good hits! Makes you want to dance, sing, laugh and/or cry. What a journey MOrrissey's music has taken me on...in reality and fantasy..blessed be...bless him!
Lynn Flynn - Do you realise the Man himself has thanked you, in lovely terms...honoured you are, I would give anything for a kind word from the man who saved my life time and time again...
@@morrissey7146 Hello my Darling Morrissey, I'm from Bonnie Dundee I know you've had an affinity with us for nigh on forty years and we still adore you, always will...just thought I would let you know I was out with my dog one day a decade ago and I seen this very good looking guy with really cool hair sitting on a bench at Magdalen Green watching his mates play football...or so I thought...Got a call from my friend to organise going to see you in Perth that night and she told me you were spotted rehearsing in the Caird Halll, at that very moment It suddenly dawned on me who I had just seen and walked past, my stomach hit the floor. I told my pal "no he's not at the Caird Hall he's bloody well here n the park with Boz, Gary, Allan and all the roadies"!! As I turned around, you were already at the top of the hill about to leave with the band I wanted to shout to you wait, speak to me, see me, like me...but what would I say to the man who created my life's sound track, who saved me time and again and whom I have loved all my life...I suppose I could have just said hi...So near yet so far aye? Morrissey my best friend I raise a glass to you and I thank you - for EVERYTHING!!! I still have hope I will meet you one day - All my love xxx
this song is a masterpiece...melody, the way Moz sings, musical arrangements....ok there isn't Marr but this song reminds me better moments of the Smiths
How I first got acquainted with Moz at 12yo on MTV 120Minutes...he contributed sooo much to my adolescent years and making me feel like I was OK even though I wasn't like the other idiots around me
Took my wife to see Morrissey at a gig on Halloween in Salt Lake City back in the late 90's. Great show I can see why she likes him and The Smiths so much. Great bassline.
I want to see him in Las Vegas! ❤️🌹🥰 Please God, I want to go see him! ✝️ I was in Las Vegas several times lately and I was disappointed that there’s no good shows.
First off: I'm impressed, this looks to be done with a single shot (except for the very end). Second: it looks like a few times Moz is about to crack a smile and tires not to - and furthermore, the semi-angry faces he makes a few times are hot as shit. Adorable.
Yep, great clip and song, didn't muck around shooting it so no sure of moods that day but think just not in sync with handshake fist. Fuck drop the ego's, reform, tour as Smith's. I want to see em.
Morrissey: most improbable cool guy on Earth. Still blows me away, such a fantastic voice, such character, so eccentric. He just lives and breathes his persona, nobody could fill his shoes.
I remember seeing this video in 1992. I've always loved the timeless look of it, filmed in black and white, what they're wearing and their camaraderie. Stylish but not overly so. Doesn't hurt that the song rocks.
2:54 The dream starts (tell me,tell me that you love me) when the forever guitar starts to play that represents the Loyalty that Morrissey had for the girl in the song! (If you put your arms around me I wont tell anyone)👍🏿🙏💜
Am I the only one that has never heard his music until right now???? I'm trying to see how he fits into that genre/decade of music among other memorable bands. I think he had his own original sound.
Morrissey’s told us that he _loves us_ _’Oh...... I know that he means it’_ Morrissey, man of the West; standing up for us, irrespective of the cost and calling out _”Certain People I Know”_ God Bless You Steven Morrissey ❤️
Doesn't mention this video in his book - but surely his best performance? At first look a model of masculinity, but signs of anxiety and doubt are never far away - but that's why we are drawn to him, right?
Maybe.. But for me. 'NOVEMBER SPAWNED A MONSTER' . Plus possibley.!. Ouija Board, Ouija Board. With that post Carry~On English Gothic Humour. U can't beat that. That Vid was Hilarious and Glorious. In equal measures. Plus Moz in his own glasses. 👌
The great thing about having this as my favourite Morrissey song is that I get to listen to all of the amazing songs on Your Arsenal and then have this to end the album. Pure brilliance!
This is like the cherry on the Your Arsenal sundae. Morrissey's best solo album closes out with one of his best solo tracks... his best composition with Alain Whyte by far.
My favorite song of all time, 25 years and running. I randomly met Moz the day before a show I was going to in 1997 and asked him if he could play it, and he responded "no, my band and I hate that song." HAHAHA I still find his blunt honesty more refreshing than if he had actually played it.
ha ha. i mean, really - would you want any other response from him ? BUT hey ...even Monsieur can be wrong. Perhaps his inner stephen got the better of him ?
@@simonthompson27 in fairness he does dislike a lot of his songs and albums although I’m not sure why. I know he’s definitely not a fan of the debut Smiths album
@@Harry_84 I think, for morrissey, the (his) narrative can be equally important as the drudgery of reality. I like that. You’re not chained to the expectation of having to love what it is you have Done right ? And …He’s still tinged by what he grew up with . something like a ‘mark e smith’ attitude. Once upon a time …He loved smith. Even if mark smith said “ there’s only one smith in Manchester” lol.
Every day I listen to this song, although I am having the worst day of my life, when I listen to it it makes me happy, it is incredible what moz transmits!
I LOVE HIM, YESTERDAY, TODAY, TOMORROW.......NOW, FOREVER, ALWAYS!!!! I too would walk behind him for mothing, just to be close to him, ahhhhh Morrisey, you are a musical god!!!!!
just a great song. Never really knew who he was until youtube. I did tape the song back in the 90s off the radio and had in on my TEAC dual cassette tape deck. Ah remember when that was uber hi tech
THAT BASS LINE...It brings you thought the song slowly but unstoppably....love every guitar and every bass and drum line....and the lyrics....that voice....❤🔥TELL ME , TELL ME ,THAT YOU LOVE ME...!!!
