What’s funny is that Barraka lost his wife, kids and became a monster and still remained a good guy. Shang Tsung became a bad guy just because he was a loser lmao.

Honestly, Kronika being alternate Shang Tsung gave me the biggest sigh of relief I've had with this franchise.

I got to be honest, after Johnny got broken into by an ex yakuza member with a sword, opening his front door and seeing a God and 2 ninjas in the door opening "what in the actual FU-" is probably how anyone would react to that

I love how Baraka was redeemed conceptually in this game.

Being able to choose your fighter near the end was honestly really cool and I hope they do it again for future games

Honestly glad that Kronika was original Shang Tsung in disguise, nobody wanted that bald headed demon back

Sub Zero's edgyness in his voice makes a lot more sense when you remember it's Bi Han...

My favorite part of MK1R story mode is when that old man sitting at the bar minding his own business while Raiden and Bi-Han Sub-Zero are fighting, and when Raiden's arms got frozen by Bi-Han at the bar counter, the old man just picks off a piece of ice from him, he was like "hmm ninjas, must be Monday, oh an ice cube, cheers dude"

the best part is the fights are all random, meaning if you play through the final chapter again you can get different combo characters, upwards of like 30 different possibilities.

25:57 They're going off of the MK11 expansion story. In that one you can win as Liu Kang, *or* as Shang Tsung. The time line splitting simply means it's acknowledging both of those endings. However, as later in the story will reveal, it's acknowledging the endings that ALL of the characters could win the single player mode and become a titan and the keeper of time.

For clarification on story Quan Chi and Ermac; you are correct, they are using placeholder movesets. Quan Chi is a stripped down version of MK11 Shang Tsung, and Ermac is a stripped down version of MK11 Noob Saibot. My guess is that they were both planned to be base roster, but they couldn't be finished in time, thus we have them as DLC. Edit: I am also assuming that the Khameleon kameo is in the same boat, although she seems to be the most "finished" of the three.

Hopefully in the next game they will focus entirely in the things the arcade endings gave us. There's more than enough content and no need to go back to multiverse stuff. Can say I'm guilty of liking the mess that was the last chapter, it was hilarious.

The later part of the story is kind of all over the place, so I learned that in MK games to just turn my brain off and enjoy the show

The Armageddon style ending was just so rushed and anticlimactic. Up until that point, it was genuinely so so good. That being said, probably still the best MK story wise and character development.

12:00 it is true baraka supposed to be a edinian, the first opening of the game. There's a theory the one edinian who blaming Shang Tsung on his fake medicine from the opening was baraka before he also being infected by tarkat's virus.

To further cement that the whole story is that the Titan Shang Tsung should have been Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa and voiced by him. Would have been a great twist and also brought him back in for a cameo. He also plays like his former self too so having your MK1 character going up against him with his Ermac lifts, ninja slides, and fireballs would have been quite OP and feel like a proper boss. Would have also been good to see Robin Shou, and the cast of the 1995 MK film make a cameo in helping the good side. Bring in known variations of Goro from the original 2D era version where he literally has no neck, a small pumpkin head and giant timber arms, with the 1995 MK version with his long torso, all with unique fighting styles would have been masterful.

The story isn’t bad, but there’s a few head scratching parts.

Without going into the details of the gameplay, i feel that the multiverse stuff kinda ruined the story and if it stoped at saving edenia it'd have been one of the best mortal kombat stories if not the best

It really depresses me what could have been and what they have done to my game. Serious question, why does everything need a multiverse?

the first half of the story had me completely hooked. all the character work felt compelling and the intrigue really made for an interesting story. but then prime shang tsung revealed himself and everything just fell apart. i feel like a much better choice would have been to keep this games story in only liu kangs timeline, and have the good guys win and the bad guys escape to fight another day. then have a post credit scene that reveals "kronika" as prime shang so the next game (or story mode expansion) could be entirely focused on the crazy timeline collision shit without ruining the integrity of the story they started this one with

As a person who’s played a good amount of Mortal Kombat, this one is my favorite by far.

I actually enjoyed most of the game, I didn't even mind the alternate timelines. Seeing a bunch of mashed up characters during the Armageddon was also really fascinating. However I felt like the end was extremely rushed, with the final battle being such a disappointment. Kronika was a better final boss than Shang & Quan, like a quick 1 round fight, and that's it?

They missed a chance to show us how previous generations of fighters put a fight against other world. Would of been nice to see when earth realm started their 9 losing streak before lu kang came in and saved them. Maybe even further back to the first ever tournament. Maybe even further back before the first tournament and what lead to that even happening.

After seeing other fighting game stories, this one is still the best by miles.

I remember going "WTF even _is_ this??" when I got to Ch.15, but by the end my face was hurting because I was smiling ear to ear for so long. Like you, I would've preferred the Kampaign be more of that. It's absolutely glorious nonsense.

I don't understand why they made Liu Kang intentionally fuck with the villians' lives to give them "meaningless existences", it literally changes nothing as they go right back to doing the evils again. You know what would've been better? Making their lives better and giving them a purpose beyond their selfish desires, that would've been a better plan than causing them to suffer a fate not of their own choosing.

Most people do not like Time Travel in Fandoms. My most likely guess it's because it retcons The lore & story of whatever Fandom your playing or watching.

From a long time MK enjoyer, this felt like Midway MK Armageddon all over again but more unhinged. I respect them taking the blueprint and go ballistic with it like rent was due.

Shao Zero = MK 9 when you beat the ladder with Cyber Sub-Zero. I have to continue the Armageddon with each character to see who i fight against.

Liu Kang took Shang’s power but didn’t plan their (Quanchi) fates, LLk let them choose what to do. But Shang will forever be this horrible person that enjoys the suffering of others. Shang Tsung could’ve had a better life if he didn’t choose too scam people and living the terrible life he lived until damachi came.

Love that this makes both endings of MK11 Aftermath canon, bravo NetherRealm.

I liked the story until they brought in the alternate timeline’s, time travel and multiverse nonsense. I wish they just would have kept it simple this time around.

Mk1 was doing good until the multiverse came back into the plot . I loved the intimacy the game had . How it felt like it was Liu kang hanging in his fishbowl he created for his fish to flourish . We could have gotten the multiverse stuff in like 2-3 games but they weren’t confident enough and basically lied wha the plot would be

Kronika shouldve been fleshed out in her own trilogy, shes a whole tier above elder gods and the cutscenes fodderized her and discredited her actual power, Kang said at some point she lost her sanity due to mettling with the flow of time and in 11 when she is visibly using her power, if her goal of "balance" wasnt achieved she rage quit the server and rebooted it, her sanity, (As Kano showed in SB) got her to the point she even revealed herself to all enemies when she pretty much had it on lock until she became unhinged. She wanted balance, was essentially neutral, but couldn't cope with external forces getting further than she intended. Seeing as she was unable to achieve her vision, she got sloppy over time in her madness and a lot of people dont see she's pretty broken. I have sympathy towards her character, but they rushed her concept. She was essentially timeless so everything she went through she had to cope with mostly alone. Its sad man, Geras was the impartial creation she sought the world to be. Suffering and enduring at the same time. Her backstory would be lit. And missed opportunity to make her playable, but yeah she survived multiple MK11 endings so this "trend" of "timelines and multiversity" oversaturated proper character development to accept ass pulls and new era retcons. I was happy to see her, and even happier for the swerve, Shang was the threat she always knew, and Kang was the hope she had to hinder, when they collided, even she had to move her hand. Thats the enormity of her impact. No one unaware stood a ghost of a chance. Hell, an Unrestricted Trio of Geras, Shinnok, and Cetrion, wouldve been enough, people give too much credit to the og villains, but she put all of that in place. She real life got bored or lost sight of her original goal that made her take risks and make mistakes against beings she literally had a hand in creating.

Reptile being so fricking beautiful and badass in this game is probably Netherrealm’s way of making up for him not being MK11. God, Meghan Fox’s voice acting though…..

I would have preferred the storyline to focus on Shang Tsung's new era vs Liu Kang's new era instead of going full multiverse and forcing an "Armageddon" ending just for the sake of it

For a franchise, Mortal Kombat seems to be wrong name for the game series. I mean whoever dies in Mortal Kombat always come back from dead time reset or no reset. There's no character in Mortal Kombat who stays dead and remains dead and does not come back for the sequel. Its more like Recycling Immortal Kombat.

I think they did everything right. We got the most wanted 3D ear charecters, we got Baraka and Reptile chapters, we got both timelines as caonon and we got some actually good storytelling until the main clusterfuck starts.

This video is great, tells us the story and is hella entertaining and original at the same time
