What I love about Cage is that his reasons for being iconic are the complete OPPOSITE reasons why all the other characters are iconic. You have these colorful, stoic, orientally dressed monks and martial artists from all different cultures of the world, each with a sterness and aggression that makes them come off as powerful in so many different unique ways, and then there's Johnny Cage: a normal guy who dresses like a 40 year old dad and takes literally NOTHING seriously and it just works
Dude, I honestly love this costume so much. It's so basic and normal compared to the others ,but it somehow works on Johnny and his actor persona. I think this is the best Johnny has ever looked
@@rayantonioking more like a divorcee in debt but not complaining and making his film to pay off all his troubles while still SLAYING and Being the suave man that he is 😭 😂 😂 truly, a man we should look up to, well , some parts we should look up , not all 😅😅
It really is though. I’m glad he got a comebcack of a mainish importance as well.was Impressed he actually agreed to sit behind the scenes now and direct instead of be the star of the show. It’s different seeing him like how he was acting in mk9 and seeing him now after everything humbled him it’s definitely nice to see Johnny Cage Change.
Honestly i love how they fleshed out Johnny more. It's such a shame he lost his wife. Now his line in MK 11 to Sonya about being his fave ex wife makes sense.
Don’t worry they’ll reunite in the next game. Or if not, think about it like this, this game just confirmed that every mk11 ending is canon, meaning Johnny got kronikas hourglass in one timeline, and made it so that he and Sonya were reunited.
I was the same, he didn't grow on me until MKX - absolutely love the Cage family. IMO a funny character is challenging to write. I do like a comic relief character provided s/he is actually funny, capable and has real depth.
Johnny was already a great written character in the 3D era, he was a nice contrast to Liu Kang who went from humble to arrogant whereas its the opposite for Johnny.
@@LilithMarillium Stephanie Retamar was already a great lesbian group home in the 3D era, he was a lesbian Brother to luis luciano who went from Humble to arrogant woman its the lesbian Lesbian for JustinPullin
Can't stop shedding a tear when Johnny thanks Liu Kang at 1:38:44 and He smiles, you can see how happy He's after what happened in the others timelines and how much His old friends changed in such a short time in this new one.
I love it too! The slight squint, the double take, the music rising. It also gives me a 4th wall break, like he's thinking "what the hell did I just get myself into"
@@TREVORVADER I wonder why a movie where a bitter old fart gets sidelined by a mary-sue self-insert doesn't feel like an actual Indiana Jones movie. Hmm... Maybe it was the wardrobe.
I love that it tries to justify having burning oil lamps still in the chamber, when so many movies put lit torches on the walls of catacombs that haven't been opened in centuries. Like, this movie inside a game is so weirdly interesting and well thought out, despite that being in no way necessary.
IKR! I was dreading for when the director yelled cut , I was somewhat hoping that Johnny was a archeologist in this new timeline , not exactly that far fetched considering how similar he is to Nathan drake .
I really do love how Cage actually knows so much of Sento's backstory. The Cages from other timelines probably would've just got the sword because it looks cook and expensive but this one actually knows it's full backstory. Oh, and he also has a degree in quantum physics lol
My top 5 characters in MK1 based on how well they were written 1: Liu Kang he is the embodiment of all thats good. Humble, wise, and respectful. Genuinely wants to be better for the realms and not to fail where raiden had. Completely content with being simply the defender of earthrealm even though he could have easily had more. 2: Johnny super effective comedic scenes. A cocky goofball but knows the right time to knock that shit off and get serious. 3: Kuai Liang i originally disliked his addition as scorpion but it grew on me. Smoke is an honorable mention here because their brotherhood is honestly wholesome even though Tomas isnt blood related. 4: Baraka he is such a bro in this entry 5: Kenshi. Im a bit biased because ive neen a Kenshi main since MK:D but his backstory as a member of the Yakuza trying to redeem his family honor is actually awesome.
Reptile has always been one of my favorites but in lore was always relegated to a jobber. They did him justice by making him more human literally and figuratively
MK9 Liu Kang: What do you see in him? Raiden: He is a hero Liu Kang. Though he may not yet know it. MK1: Raiden: What do you see in him? Liu Kang: He is a hero Raiden. Though he may not yet know it.
I also love the part when Liu Kang puts hand on Raiden's shoulder and says he would never send one of them unwittingly into Mortal Kombat. That's definitely a knock at what original Raiden did to him

Jhonny being probably one of the few characters who can make Liu Kang 1:38:42 is one of the most precious things and probably why he choose to bring him although he may not have known at that moment ;D
I don't think I've ever seen a more believable delivery on the _"What in the actual fuck?"_ line than Johnny in this game. Because yeah. After what he'd put up with for the night, seeing that just _literally_ politely ring his doorbell and wait for him to answer the door... Yeah. That'd make anyones brain leave.
He kind of feels like a combination of Klassic and older Johnny from Mk11. Mostly Klassic, but we get to see a bit of that growth and maturity from him.
One of the things that defiently sold Johnny's humor and everything was the facial Animation, my god TOP TIER respect to all the animators, MK1 has the best Facial Animations ive ever seen in a game besides MK11 and Injustice 2
I already loved Johnny since MK9 where, yes, he was annoying and arrogant but hilarious and meant well. But this is the absolutely best he has been, I feel like they gave so much love to their characters in MK1 but ESPECIALLY Johnny and Liu Kang
1:25:54 Nah, bro did that man absolutely dirty, there was no reason for him to do that at all. 😂😂 That has to run deeper for that specific incident to be written in.
I really like what they did with baraka and reptile. Instead of being one dimensional bad guys because they have sharp teeth and pointy bits, they feel like actual people. I base this on what i saw during this video, so maybe they become comically evil, but from the parts i saw i appreciate what they did with them both. Although i'd have liked to see reptile more often in his lizard form instead of his lame ass human version.
Nah, it’s the sjw modern writing No one is a villain. They all have tragic backstories and are misunderstood. Sometimes a bad guy being evil because he’s evil is the best
@@lewispooper3138 Bad guy being a generic bad guy villain has been done in 95% of movies and games, so its a breath of fresh air. Its fucking boring, im glad whenever i see something that breaks away from this trend. And what do you mean no one is a bad guy? Shao Khan, Shang Tsung have you missed them or something?
@lewispooper3138 SJW modern writing...🤦♂️ characters can have nuance. For you to think characters having more than one dimension and not just being evil means it's bad, then you are an idiot. You are just regurgitating right-wing gamer rhetoric. Grow up.
Awesome how they're going to put a Jean Claude Van Damme version of him if they haven't done so already in just speaks volumes of how they (the devs) listen to their fans not to mention paying homage to some of the characters origins
@@brandonlyon730Also ironic that the classic MK movie was meant to be a Van Damme movie, with the titular actor playing the character in question of this whole video.
1:13:00 (Hands over Sento to Kenshi after their previous back and forths about the sword) Kenshi: “What?! I can’t. Not when you’re - “ Johnny: “You saved my life. It’s yours.” That’s character growth right there!
Kenshi's character arc with Johnny, has to be single handedly the best character arc I've ever seen, or ever will anticipate in a mortal kombat game, ever.
I never really cared about Johnny from mk9-11 because he felt so generic. But his dynamic with Kenshi and Kung Lao here made me love him. I never thought he would become one of my favorite characters.
Mk1 is such a beautiful game. Feels like a real movie but in a game. I love this new sequel but yeah, I surely miss the old Scorpion. Kuai Liang isn't it.
