I'd like to play tekken 8 but they still haven't fixed their online servers last time I checked and given tekkens history of having the worst servers of all the fighting games I don't exactly have my holes up. Shame though because the game itself looks really fun to play though.
If the Peacemaker patch doesn’t fix most of the current issues when it comes out, then they are really screwed. At that point they might as well just completely rework the whole game cuz I doubt people will want to keep playing. But that means that they will probably re-release the game and rename it “Ultimate MK1” and charge everyone to upgrade to the new version or pay full price if you didn’t have the game before lol

The only good thing concerning Mortal Kombat is that you can pick-up almost any character you like, for example Johnny Cage with kameo Khameleon, learn two or three combos. Go online, and pretend you are a pro player for a couple of minutes or hours until you get bored. Than when you feel satisfied by your ''fake sense of accomplishment '' you can once again delete the game from your library and return to playing Robocop, Terminator : Resistance, CyberPunk and GhostRunner 2 without losing too much time in between. When another DLC comes out like Peace Maker or Takeda, you repeat the process shown above.
everyone that goes "nah the gameplay doe so creative" I swear they feel like a professor for doing some abc, not hard at all air combo but oooooo one of the buttons is called "kameo" and u can change it it MUST be creative right??? The gameplay is fucking boring too even winning or especially just watching matches.

Guilty Gear is a niche franchise and Guilty Gear Strive is the "Mortal Kombat 1" of the franchise. A game that was a wild departure from the roots of the series system mechanics and (in my opinion) is only propped up by what little money there is in the tournament scene.
I used to be a big Mortal Kombat fan, but this game made me lose almost all of the passion I had for the franchise. An awful launch with gameplay that felt so unfinished I couldn’t be fucked to come back. Thankfully Street Fighter 6 has been very good at scratching my fighting game itch.
At the start, I did not buy MK1 due to the Cameo mechanic(I think it's just a lazy continuation of MK11 tower mode) but little did I know the amount of ACTUAL issues the game would have, with desynchs, lack of content, lack of communication and trust from NRS, WB being dicks etc etc.... I really do wanna play Ashrah, been waiting for year for over a decade, but I just cannot bring myself to buy the game. I know a part of NRS is doing good, It's just such a shame.
I had fun with MK1 for about 2 weeks but that´s about it. I don´t think i wasted my money cause i played like 80 hours and genuinely had fun during story mode and the first few online matches. I think the thing that is holding back MK is Warner Bros...SF6 and T8 both feel like they are made by passionate teams, that had all the time they needed to produce a rounded product. MK1 feels like it was rushed to get some quick cash.
One thing i noticed is that MK doesn't really sppeal to the casual scene like Tekken and SF. Most MK casuals only care about the fatalities/x-rays and story mode (all of which you can find YT videos of). After that, they have nothing else to get the casuals to stay. Compared to all 4 games you mentioned in the video, Mortal Kombat hlis the least visually appealing compared to them. Yeah it may feel goid but new players won't know that
MK1 doesn't even have a connection filter yet. Every other fighting game will show u ping. They NRS think a decline option with ping is enough. I love going on to T8 and being able to ONLY play 5 * WIRED connect with a 0% disconnect rate. People pull here and there but that's normal. Can't take Ls or power goes out I understand and move on.
i think its absolutly normal to put the game that you like rather the game you dont because for example if its your average cod channel that criticise the game while buying skins operatives new titles which come off as hypocrites
What I can’t figure out honestly is if T8 is just the least offensive of the 3 majors and that’s why people are saying it’s the best. SF6 has greedy monitization and shitty fight money and MK1 was not only a train wreck but monitization and general poor management all around aren’t going anywhere. Can we please stop acting like MK was on par with most SF and Tekken games(except maybe T6)? It never has been and never will be at that Calibur in the foreseeable future. Also, Tekken has trashed A LOT of its identity so its mainstream appeal is surprising. Go play T2-TTT and they’re still better and more engaging than T8. Tekken was never supposed to be about holding forward mash buttons but here we are doing just that. Look at Nina: a main character they have completely missed the point of. She’s not even “correct” as correctly she and Anna would have a midland Irish accent, so that’s not a thing.
The lack of communication is not down to WB silencing the Devs. I just think the backlash from the community rightfully so has left them too embarrassed to engage. They don't want to engage directly with the community because they know what's gonna come their way and in some respects I can't blame them for that.
I also feel that Japanese devs have less hoops to jump thru to fix things and communicate with us. We have much different rules for our devs over here, they have so many hoops to jump thru to even tell us anything about what's going on. While Harada can just come out and tell us what's up and fix things. Or that's how it seems I could be completely wrong about Japanese devs 🤷 just seems they can actually interact more without having to ask higher ups
they should just build off the mk6, 9 or 10 engines or similar or recreate it, the 3d trilogy was fun and interesting, the first half of the NRS era was good too so idk.
@@theretrogamingnerd3316 I think a lot of people just didn't like general way game was played. It was a lot more meter management focused and a lot slower. Iirc you pretty much played to recover meter and then spend it and then spend it. Plus meta was rather awkward at times, esp with Jackie briggs being top 5 through entire life span on the game.

Tbf the game had core mechanics that realistically couldn't be fixed without gutting the game entirely. Like the regenerating meter system, the breakaway system, the wake up system. All of these systems nrs put bandaids on but couldnt really fix then suddenly pulled the plug on mk11. Then MK1 drops and all those listed issues were gone which is no coincidence. Mk1 was going to be a banger on release but since WBs other projects failed they pushed mk1 early to try to make up the lost money. I find it weird when people say Mk11 is slow when it had close to half the cast zooming across the screen with wavedashes and ending rounds in seconds with krushing blows. It was fast paced with very heavy emphasis on neutral play. It just had other big issues prebaked into the game that couldn't be fixed
@@Vespyr_ In my mind, I thought the only way they could somewhat justify Kameos was if they made the main roster also Kameos AND if they included pretty much every character that will never be in a main MK roster. Like Hsu Hao or something. From what I seen, the selection of who can be a kameo fighter is pathetic, making Kameos entirely indefensible.
It's so sad when you revisit 9 and X and now you see what we getting in comparison with 11 and 1. 😢 I don't think this is going to be an SF5 game started out awful and ended pretty great.... From what it originally started off as. .

NRS/WB got so comfortable with mediocrity that they thought they could get away with it Competition did nothing but increase the quality of their games whereas NRS stayed the same simply because they know majority of their audience are gonna eat up their games anyways.
Man I'm SO happy with Tekken 8 in every way. It's such a great content rich fun time. I have like no complaints. Maybe the ONLY thing I'd say I want is some more maps. I'm so happy to see this franchise going so strongly. I've been playing it since I was like 5 years old on PS1
As someone who genuinely hates one-button, armored w/hyper armor super moves, the heat mode shite irks me to no end......but it's still the most fun fighting game Ive ever played But seriously, heat's 2-frame stagger opener is such a cancer in low ranks lol Makes me feel better about learning how to use yoshi's flash
Its seems that this "mk timeline" is over. The only thing i can see working is rebooting everything again with a new director who knows about fighting games, and mick gordon to make the OST.
Another reboot would be cool. Just go back to the og game (which is incredibly dated by now), keep the basic systems intact but make it visceral and dark again, real grim and adult. Oh, and make every character who's supposed to be sexy, well SEXY. Men and women, not just the former which is hypocritically sexist imo.
MK9 and MKX the movements were fluid smooth and quick. the downfall of mk was weak ass injustice, they said oh ppl like this lets make mk more like injustice...they made 11 and mk1 in injustice image. Stiff, slow gameplay, repetitive combos, bright neon colors,, even took how the combo damage is displayed 305.76% vs just 30% in every mk before 11 and mk1 i fkn HATE injustice
You have no udea what your talking about. Mk1 and mk11 are nothing alike in movement or genral gameplay. And mk11 and mk1 are both nothing like either injustice game. Mkx backdashes have huge nearly half second recover frames and cant be canceled. They also take half of your stamina. Mk1 has far superior fluidity, ive played both and im 100 percent better than you in both so i know for a fact you dont know what your talking about. Not sure about mk9 but that game is a busted dumpster fire that nearly unplayable unless you literslly ban certain startegies. I literslly saw a whole video just on cyraxs broken ass shenanigans. And dont wven gwt me started on mkx balance💀. I love the game but dont try to act like its waaaaayy better than mk1. Because objectively its no bettwr
Part of the viewership problem is that MK1 is a snoozefest to watch too. There are streamers that I will watch play basically anything, but if they fire up MK1 I'm out because it's just so boring.
Let mk sit this one out. Netherrealm and Warner bros are to blame for the state of the game not the community. I love mortal kombat and I miss what it used to be. I’m also a call of duty fan and I really miss zombies. It seems like American companies don’t care anymore and would rather push agendas and give out mediocre games on PURPOSE. They don’t love us and they sure as hell don’t care about good memories anymore. Gaming is dying, and only a handful of developers actually care and love the games they are working on distributing to the fans. We have to make our voices heard by force if necessary.

Guaranteed that NRS devs are not happy with the situation, and I'm like 99.99% sure WB won't let them talk. If any of them are willing to take the risk, they'll reach out to yourself or other content creators and let you know, maybe give you messages to pass along to the community. There's no way they dont know what's happening.

Mk1 is a shell of a game and this is coming from someone whos supported MK for years. The lack of game modes, completely dogshit frames, no stage interactions, no good skins whatsoever, a neutered version of tag team from Mk9 that's not as fun, boring dlc characters, boring character interactions, purchasable fatalities. There are too many negatives to comfortably greenlight it. Ground to air gameplay loop is pretty fun but that's not enough from a studio that is usually ripe with content.

Once MK fans have a proper taste of a fighting game like SF6 or Tekken8 they will realize what they are missing out on, I know I did. i’m a first timer on Tekken and i’m loving it. If you told me 3 months ago I would completely lose interest in MK1 and not even care about the upcoming DLC i would not have believed any of it but here we are
Same here. Played MK since X and dropped MK 1 in a month. Just bought Tekken 8 and holy shit, it's like Baldurs Gate 3 of fighting games. MK 1 is like The Day Before.
SF6 had 115k viewers on twitch last night which is insane. Tekken 8 is an absolutely amazing product and as an SF main I think I’m enjoying it more than SF6. With project L on the horizon I just don’t see how NRS games survive this level of competition.
As someone who loved MK9 and MK10, I was a bit disappointed by MK11, so I was quite critical when MK1 came out. Saw that they made women less sexy and I just never gave MK1 a chance. For me, it's an important aspect of the MK experience. The game is rated for adults, and sexy is what I remember MK to be, and I'm not ashamed to admit it... "Why is this a big deal it's just a sideboob who cares." It's actually a good indicator of a company understanding its consumers and giving them what they want... Now playing Tekken and it's fucking awesome.
That's Western developers now in general. It's stupid too they removed all the sexy outfits on the female characters but it's more shit they race swapped em too like Tanya is a black woman in MK 1 which doesn't make sense since she looked eastern Asian which many outworld to Edenians were all Asian descent. Even them making Quan Chi Indian in this was a dumb diversity change which made little sense when Mortal Kombat had already a diverse cast so why race swap characters? It's lazy and fucking stupid.
We the FANS yelled a Shaolin Monk's style open world Conquest mode and krypt mk11 style! Instead we got Invasions and Camio! Invasions is repetitive and becomes boring fast and the Grinding is on another level of stupid! Love my mk but until they either get back on track or die, I'm happily playing Tekken 8!
I hope not. As you'd expect I wanted Doomslayer in MK for a long time but at this point they gotta step FAR away from whatever their plan is and do something else with a whole game. Mk1 feels uninspired.

Its funny seeing mortal kombat fans defend this game and say the gameplay is "one of the best" lol. I can get destroyed in tekken 8, street fighter 6, guilty gear and still learn and have fun. In MK1 i knew strait away the gameplay was broken in the first month with the cheap and unfair baraka/raiden witj cyrax gameplay. And now the stupid gameplay continues with johny cage and a handfull of cheap kameos. The gameplay is so idiotic in this game. Mortal kombat fans defend this and just say "get good" lol
Why not just play MK11 then? Have all the players go back to that game! If you guys want results then you have to show them that you're serious! Start an online group or community that gets people to stop playing 1 and transfer to 11!
It’s really shocking given the hype around MK1 and seeing how NRS has dropped the ball it really needs to be studied. I’m already over MK1 hopefully they learn from this.
It's like they just hype the game up to get those initial sales and when they reached the goal for WB, they don't care anymore about the game. Whatever dlc comes after is just to get extra money.

I just don't feel the love from NRS when it comes to MK1 when compared to Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6 you play those games and you can tell the effort and focus is there from day one!
Tekken 7 was very active its entire life and it wasn't just because of popular character dlc, they didn't break the balance, the online was good enough, the competition stumbled and it always showed very well at tournaments, it was THE fighting game for spectators as well as players, it didn't have cross play and the PC version always had thousands of players every day... that was unheard of. Tekken 8 has not stumbled, it's picking up right where 7 left off with nothing but positive conversation, there's plenty of time for them to mess it up of course and with the first dlc character being Eddy it's going to be a long wait before anything truly exciting and surprising shows up, so it's entirely up to fan goodwill until then. T7 shocked from the get go with Akuma, then Geese and Noctis before any classic characters were added, i think T8 needs to pull the ace up their sleeve within the first season of dlc, they need Tifa or something on par with that to really lock this game in at the top of the genre.
Hey Mike I don't know if you're aware of the suicide squad situation but basically that's another wb product that have been released poorly, is live service and they basically shat on a beloved series legacy. I would suggest a boycott for wb games in general, not only mk1. If everything else WB releases are rushed, poorly designed live service games that generates a lot of money mk2 will follow regardless of mk1 success and controversy. Thankfully Suicide Squad is another controversial mess but who knows what's gonna happen when mk2 starts development
I love MK but they really lack content, there really isn’t anything to do after beating story mode and an invasion season, all the koin made in invasions gets refreshed and it be a lot of wasted currency!
You're right about the handcuff situation, and i wonder why. Some dickriders will tells you the game sold very well and don't want to hear anything else and so the future of MK will be beautiful but i'm worried NRS/ WB relationships are in shambles. I really wonder if they managed to damage the brand this time with two "mid" games to stay polite. On steam, ppl play MK11 more than MK1. Can't tell about consoles numbers of course. I bet it also matter that the pc port wasn't playable for many pc build. MK11 run's fine on potatoes pcs.
We can argue about “the extra stuff” until we’re blue in the face, but the truth of the matter is that MK1 just doesn’t feel good to play. The animations are super clunky the technical stuff just isn’t well thought out: it feels like there is way too much block stun and the characters just don’t move affectively. It sounds silly but the game just feels like you’re controlling a marionette rather than the character on screen. I get that post launch support is important, but nobody cares about DLC to a game that feels this clunky and stiff. A good game will easily make it though 3 extra weeks of DLC related drama. Mortal kombat on the other hand, needs trendy DLC to sell more copies to casuals that will drop the game after 6 hours of playing online with peacemaker. Good, well designed fighting games have players in training mode for 100 hours prior to stepping into ranked online mode. Mortal kombat players literally download new DLC characters and take them online straight away. It’s amazing to me that you could outsell the 2 most legendary fighters combined, but not even have 1/10 of the least popular games online presence. Mortal kombat has been A colossal waste of time for a decade now and it’s embarrassing to have tried so hard to love it over the years.
I was a bit surprised by Mortal Kombat 1. It had a lot of hype around it with the universe reseting and everything, yet after the game released I didn't end up hearing much about it. There is this strong feeling that it's quickly being forgotten. As a big Street Fighter fan on the other hand I am reliefed to see it still doing so well even after over half a year and Tekken having just released. We are currently in a bit of a content drought so seeing the numbers as healthy as they are is actually quite impressive. Overall if MK is going to get it's act together I will be very happy though. The more good fighting games are out there the healthier the fighting game community will be and the more the scene will grow. Seeing interest from casual players to get into the games increase over the past year has been a real pleasure. It's sad to see the series that has always been seen as a bit of a crowd pleaser fall short at a vital time like this.
MKII was the best mk imo, also keep up the good work. When I get more subs I'd love too talk to you about mk in general the lore, story, characters world building etc.
I think its more. Tekken 8 is that new shiny toy so you don't like the other ones. People praised Mortal Kombat 1. It isn't as good as Tekken 8. But you guys are very cult like. "One is better than the other. So therefore the other is shit!" Thats a stupid mentality.
Calling MK1 a joke is being generous. As someone who liked the game in its first and second months, it’s never let me down harder than its developer’s non-communication and the game’s repetitive nature. TEKKEN 8 and SF6 are games I’m gonna be playing more of, and MK1 I’m dropping until Peacemaker comes out for the game, but even then, I no longer view it positively anymore.
Let's not forget the MK youtube page is turning off the comment for their NA tournament live streams but somehow they didn't turn off the comments for the Brazil tournament live stream.
i think alot of people (VERY casual) that play MK only play the story mode and when the dlc (guest specific) comes out. I think after mk11 and mk1 especially, unless they reskinned mk2 as an mkx remaster it is doomed to mediocrity. And i bet the gore doesnt help with twitch viewership either
I'm excited to see how it play out at evo. TBF the steam comparison is not fair since NRS as far as I know has never added crossplay for consoles and pc players, you would just play with a small pc community. It's the main reason I don't bother getting Mk on pc, it's my preferred platform. Crossplay for fighting games should be a must at this point. Still on NRS though.
