Reiko is such a strange character. He has a parry, a command grab and the best projectile. Itstlike developers didn't know what to do with him, ao they just slapped random moves.

Bane was a solid grappler too actually. He was insane

One thing to note, EX command grab makes the throw, that is a high, a mid, another reason that it costs 2 bars

It also helps that Reiko has the most violent and cruel fatalities by far in the game, he goes out of his way to make his opponents suffer in the worst way possible

As a Reiko main, ive been having a blast with him. Sure his great with darius for the damage but i feel you give up a bit too much & if you whiff your probably dead.. i generally like to use frost or sareena kameo for more consistent damage or utility.. not sure why people underestimate him though. He is a A tier character and not just cause he can do 62% with darius either..

I love the new Reiko, I wanted to main Rain before game release but portals made me confused. I gravitated towards Reiko. I don't even want to play any other fighter, he's so fun. Totally my vibe.

It's good to see Reiko finally getting some credit, & finally available to play as a real character again. It's been so long & he has been one of my favorite characters since MK 4

My friend plays Reiko and he just runs away to the opposite side of the map and nonstop spams the projectile. Not to mention he uses a Jax Kameo for the unblockable ground pound and combo damage. It is extremely irritating to play against because to top it off when you finally get close to him he'll just poke you, grab you, and then go back to spamming the shuikens

One thing you missed is that if you ex the command grab, it can follow up after normal attacks (which the normal grab doesnt). With that you can basically low poke neutral ducking opponents and follow up with a +30% combo as another form of mix up

i love your videos man but i don't agree with this one, his damage is amongst the lowest in the entire roster, his kameo can basically be called in once per round, his 620 damage is very situational as it requires all of your resources. plus his neutral is very bad because its a 16 frame starter.

Gotta say I really appreciate these character breakdown vids. Makes the more intimidating characters much easier to understand.

I literally just started labbing with him a few days ago. I love him but he takes getting used to. He doesn’t play like others you want to use the reach on his foward4. To keep opponents away. But once you master him he’s great.

the animation on his attacks is also perfect, the entry into takedown the 1,2 low kick combo he has. Its all spot on.

I began Playing Reiko since I realized how badly sub zero needed a buff. I finally realized how fun the game can be, playing someone else besides a character who needs a buff badly

He needs Darius to do this without him he's one of the lowest damage characters in the game ( as bad as Havik) and the command grab becomes no where near as scary Darrius can only really be used once a round unless yall not fighting or zoning lmao he's basically a shotgun thats scary once/ twice a game

I think it's just nice to see characters like Reiko get their own fighting style instead of just being Shao Khan lite.

I love that youre rockin the roman skull helmet on him, its the clearest homage to his mk4 ending and man does it kick ass. I love that hes serving as the sudo gladiator stand in since we havnt had a gladiator in mk before! I like his play style alot hes kinda like jacqui from mk11 in some ways. i definitely think hes underrated cuz hes not a big iconic character but his style is really fun i just wish he used his knife and spear in his moveset somehow

I decided to main Reiko even before I knew his move-set. I loved him MK:A even though his damage was scaled terribly in that game. Absolutely love him in MK1, it's nice to see him getting some love.

MKX you had grapplers with insane throw damage bro, Injustice you had Grundy and Bane...MK11 had this thing with grabs having low damage.

Reiko is the greatest kharacter in ALL of MK1, he deserves ALMOST, ALMOST as much respect as General Shao.

I haven't played MK1 yet to try Reiko, but he does look amazing as a grappler. But let's not also forget that Netherrealm Studios did a pretty good job with Kano in MK11 as a grappler too!

The 2 bar command grab is a mid grab so you can’t duck it, you can also follow it up after an attack that leaves them standing

I'm so happy I picked Reiko, he has been solid for me, fits my style of play and love fighting with him

Reiko having those ninja stars is like if Zangief pulled out a gun and shot you.

i am a reiko main, and i wasnt expecting to main him but here i am. Something you seemed to forget is that he can do EVEN MORE DAMAGE cuz of his command grab, if you command grab someone that is blocking UP, it TRIPLES THE DAMAGE (if u amplified it). which means its actually possible to get 75%, although no one seems to block up most of the times but yes i love reiko and i cant wait for some new skins for him

Since they put my mains in previous games as khameos, i am so glad they brought Reiko Back and gave him such a cool moveset. DDT, Spinebuster with Ground and Pound and a release german suplex. 🥰 And i think its funny that true underdawg said in an older video that Reiko was a bad designed character and now he came back as a banger 😂

I love grappling and i waited so long to see it in a fighting game which takes it seriously as a martial art.

my first mortal kombat game ever was mortal kombat 4, and i used to main reiko. i remember beating my cousins over and over again with him im so glad hes back in mk1, will definitely be trying him out if i can ever afford mk1 (im a college student lol)

The meter burn command grab also turns into a mid so if you use his f2 that is plus 8 you have to jump to avoid it.

It wasn’t explicitly stated together but all these 300+ damage combos all are back to back in game because of the pressure from the tackle, so his damage is low but he will melt you off 3 interactions that you have to guess on

Cryomancer sub zero in mkx had a super good command grab that led to combos, so I’d say he had the best one, but then again, everyone was like op in that game

If the oponent tries to do an up block (which You can make them search for it with his F2 safe overhead) You can get a punish and get over 700 damage with three bars, kameo and fatal

I used to not really care about reiko because I felt like he was water downed shao kahn but now he is a skilled soldier spartan and he's one of my favorite characters

Solomon Grundy's Trait was ridiculous. You can combo all three throws into 40+% damage and give him a damage boost depending on what the final input was.

On an unrelated note, and, Not too be negative, I think that MK9 meter should come back and to compensate for the loss of the "normal" meter make it have more blocks and Also make the fatal blows use a block or couple of blocks while for using your X it would have to use the full meter, that way the Kombat is more strategic and you can have longer combos and your opponent can have more chances to get out of them, and to mitigate the compensation that a lower health opponent would get from an X attack in the "normal" system the meter would build up faster for the lower health opponent.

Do WE compare high command grab with low damage and 2 bars middle vs bane ?

And then use Motaro cameo to have a lunging mid punch as another part of the fatal blow mix up

Before getting MK1, I thought my main would be either Baraka or Reptile or Havik, and before I unlocked Havik, Rekio was my main. NetherRealm gave this warrior justice!!!

Reiko main since day one and i have been trying to use stryker and scorpion instead of Darrius and i think it works pretty well. Stryker for some extra pressure and mix up and scorpion for that easy combo extensions. Darrius has more damage and all but i bet most comments here have strong opinions against darrius so i don't have to say more What kameo are you playing with him? I would love to know

dead ass i recently picked up MK1 and i just picked characters that i thought were cool (reiko and darrius), i had no idea they were actually a real good team

Hold on a sec.. what about Bane in I2? I understand that meter management is important for him but you cannot pretend that his CG was low damage 😀

I do main rain but recently i've been trying reiko since i do like him a lot, since i start using him i've been having a blast, Darrius could be nice for him for this combo but it do take (optional) ur whole bar, i do prefer using scorpion as a kameo for him

What I like about reiko is how basic he seems, in a roster with ninjas, warrior princesses, gods and the like, heres a soldier thats just STANCED UP

Reiko Has come a long way from being a Noob Saibot rip-off to The MK grappler, and it's great, I hope other 3d era mk guys get their own mojo as well.

I’m a Johnny main and reiko is like my toughest matchup for some reason. Most characters I’m cool with fighting but I dread when I see a reiko when the match starts. His midrange and zoning is really hard to deal with for my Johnny

Damn you can do so much damage with Jax and his different grabbing variations and he doesn’t need a sidekick to help him boost his combo but I have not played MK1 so idk or am I tripping?
