I always considered this MK as most hilarious one cause you just cant not laugh when listening to some voices and animations (especially for throws, i had scorpion voice line for years in my head).
Always thought this was the most underrated of the series. I actually thought the gameplay was alot better in this one compared to the previous ones. The A.I. wasn't as annoying, and the use of weapons was cool.
Ok kids U can blame 3 things for these graphics : 1.) Boon trying to compete with the look of Tekken (which took off at that time) 2.) PlayStation & 3.) It was the late 90's.
I always felt MK4 was lackluster compared to original side 2D style of MK1-MK3 and in the terms of the story and characters, but I absolutely played the shit out of it as a kid on PS1 when it first released.
I like how the first couple opponents go down in seconds and then here comes Sub Zero pullin out his Ice Mace and branchin combos 😂 Ice clones and everything it looked like player 2 hit start button for second there! Nice video MK 4 is definitely in my top 3 MK games! Love this gem
Whoever says this game sucked is stupid, because: A)It was the last MK on Arcades B)For the time, the graphics were bleeding edge C)It was their 1st 3D attempt. Give them a break. D)If not for MK4 you wouldn’t have the next games and many cool characters such as Shinnok, Tanya, etc which were first introduced in MK4.
Old answer but, for their first attempt at 3D, I'd say it was a success, the game in itself isn't bad at all, not perfect, but they were moving into the right direction here, the only thing I kinda disliked here was the weapons, not the idea, but the implementation, once drawn, you couldn't combo anymore, so it basically slowed you down, for me, it was a combo finisher and them a projectile right after that...

I remember this game from Playstation 1 i've been played when I was 13 years old. For the first time I've been a heart attack splashing the blood in the screen happen in Fatality.
Is it just me or do the graphics look shittier in this compared to mk3, I know its like more 3d but looks terrible. It looked badass when it first came out lol.
Yes, this game looks awful. It's not just you. I got this game after getting trilogy and being hooked on that for a while back in the day and I never played 4 so i was like damn this game must be sick, then i got this and was like, what the fuck did they do to my favorite series
After all these years I had no idea you could spin the Master fight opponent line up and in order to master the finishing moves you had to have bought the code book and even then the controller pattern to do it was next level
this is the most complex mortal kombat. it is fast and if mastered you can have a sensation that you are playing chess. too bad that there is not an online version of this.
Can you imagine what if... If Liu Kang was by Kitana's side as King of Edenia, they'd be unstoppable and have little children running around lol... Definitely would've had a family of their own much like JC and Sonya. Liu Kang messed it up with her every time no matter the timeline.
Compared to the other Mortal Kombats, the graphics in this version was just horrible. I played it quite a bit in my teens (it was one of the first PS1 games I had). But reflecting back, it appears Midway rushed it to production.
Kai was awesome. And I actually wouldn’t mind seeing Reiko return in the new rebooted MK series to see what they could do with him. Jarek I don’t care about though. But seriously, Kai is bad ass. I can imagine Kai in a modern game. He’d probably do capoeira with some shaolin kung fu mixed in or something.
I believed the sidestep button (borrowed from Virtua Fighter 3) was used to primarily evade projectiles. I found it useless in actual gameplay, the pace was to hectic for its usage.
Very impressive graphics, is this the PC version? I tried MK Gold for the Dreamcast, but it wasn’t very good graphically. I’m looking for the best port available.
