What made this game great: 1. Amazing roster (the best IMO) 2. Engaging story 3. Great balance of nostalgia and new elements 4. Graphics were great without being TOO realistic (yes, too much realism can be bad) 5. Klassic skins 6. Xray moves 7. Lots of modes 8. A lot of unlockable skins without being TOO much (sometimes less is more) 9. Last, but not least: it was fun as hell And as a side note, I became super happy when this became backward compatible for XB1 and Series X. It let me replay it on a current gen console without having to unlock everything all over again, haha.

Neatherealm really poured so much effort and love for MK9, the final product was an astounding leap forward for the franchise.

The overall presentation, roster, character designs, story mode and gameplay from this MK are still the best, in my opinion.

As a kid, everyone i knew played Mortal Kombat, but i was the only one who actually loved and learned the story. MK9 gave me my dream of seeing those first 3 games stories come to life, with a dark bloody twist added to it. 9 will always be my favorite for that reason.

Still my all time favorite MK, I remember my teachers asking if everything was ok because I was shaking with excitement all day on release day and the only thing I wanted was to get back home and finally play this masterpiece. The new games are still great but the feeling I got from this MK will always be my favorite memory of my childhood

Best MK retrospective on RU-vid.

Man, I loved this game on the PS vita. It was so awesome to get the full experience on the go.

It's a minor thing, but I wouldve liked a mention of the costumes, and how detailed and lore heavy some of them were. Especially Dark Raiden, Old and Young Shang Tsung, both Bi-Han and Kuai Liang Sub-Zero, and being able to play as human and cyborg Cyrax and Sektor. The latter completely blew my mind on first playthrough...

Holy shit, they really made it possibly lote accurate for Kratos to have actually gone to the MK universe, cause thats basically what the story after GOW 3 is, hes just wandering the realms, and just so happened to end up in the Norse realm in canon

The sheer amount of content, online features & story mode is so good, No other fighting game comes close. Best mortal kombat game

MK vs DC was the first Mortal Kombat game I ever owned, but it eventually lead to me getting this masterpiece. Perfect roster, some of the best designs the characters have ever had, incredibly fun gameplay, fatalities that still hold up, and a story mode that was finally able to tell the story of the first 3 games (albeit with various changes throughout) without just using bios and character endings. My brother and I still quote this game's story mode to this vary day. MK vs DC may have been what introduced me to Mortal Kombat, but MK 9 was what made me fall in love with Mortal Kombat and encouraged me to go back and check out the older games, learn the lore, and stick around for the next installments. MK 9 isn't only my favorite Mortal Kombat game, but my favorite fighting game ever. This game has a special place in my heart and I would love if we got some kind of a remaster for it some time in the future.

Truly still miss the 2v2 aspects of this MK game. It was so much fun

While I think this game has some pretty horrible examples of story writing in MK, it has hands down the best gameplay, and one of the best rosters and aesthetics in any MK game.

LOOOOVING this series of videos absolutely awesome

For as many flaws MK9 had telling its story and the many comprises it made in service of telling a much more streamlined narrative. It still holds a special place in me That said. Kitana, Jade, Skarlet, and Mileena looked so pretty in this one, which really wasn't continued in the sequels. :)

The only thing I hated about 9 was how overpowered Shao Khan was even on the easiest difficulty he spammed that hammer so damn much. The rest of it was fun though and I do miss it. Especially since for whatever reason fighting games don’t have battle damage which was such a cool feature.

My favourite non-arcade part of the series. It did everything right, that MK game should do: mechanics, roster, movesets, stages, fatalities etc. Although a story is a bit weaker than at the original timeline, but thats maybe just my nitpicking.

This game is arguably better than 10 and 11 in certain ways.

They really need to do an HD remaster of all of the games leading up to this one in a big bundle.

MK9 is my personal favorite because of the roster and especially tag team mode! I still think the new MK1 would be way cooler as a tag fighter.

my local lan center had a MK9 contest every friday for 3 months or so the first night i went 20 and 0 with Ermac and won the next friday i went 30 and 0 as Ermac and i was banned from playing him for the rest of the tournaments.....i never won again

So…Dark Raiden could’ve told his past self “Shao Khan must win” and prevented the catastrophic ending of MK9?

One of the best games would be incredible if it had a story mode with the dragon Onaga being the villain Along with the adaptation of Mythologies Sub Zero and having others characters that appear in the story And sometimes in the background of fights and also in the game history but are not usable and only appear as a reference And Easter eggs and their names are mentioned a few times they are: Kenshi,Rain,Skarlet,Cyber Smoke,Havik,Reiko,2 Khameleon,Tanya,Frost,Sareena,Nitara And finally Li Mei All of these characters are in the game in the story but are not used and playable,as well as the bosses Shao Khan,Kintaro,Motaro and Goro It's really a shame and a pain in my heart but the game is incredible and very good Being the best of all at the time and even today,he made the childhood of many,I just missed these characters and the extra story dlc with Onaga the main villain With all these extra characters Our hero characters getting to know each one of them in a story dlc It's a shame it didn't happen and will never happen... 🥺🤧😔 like and Bye!

Mortal Kombat (2011) MK9 was one of the things to help introduce me to the franchise, it was a great way to dive into the series for someone new with it being a reboot and it helped reintroduced the series after Midway's Bankruptcy. This game has a ton of great things about it from its great roster with every character being diverse and unique as oppose of how they felt in MKA, a ton of extra modes from a challenge ladder, an expansive crypt, a great tutorial mode, and a full length story mode, as well as very creative finishers, and a great art style and graphics of the 7th generation of gaming, ect ect. Now thats not to say this game is perfect, looking back there are a lot things in this game that weren't as good as I remember, such as modes I felt like should have been there like a player vs cpu and cpu vs cpu option rather then just the ladder, or a chapter select system after beating the game. I also think the later fights in the game are either unfair or just outright bad like being peveted on a 1 v 2 at certain parts of the story mode or the bosses doing too much health (especially X-rays) or even feeling like the cpu was cheating like the infamous input readers from the arcade era. And then there also things that I felt ruin some of the direction of the franchise like the story structure of the game, while I do think its fine in this game it is somewhat repetitive having every character like Johnny, Sonya, and Smoke to all get win streaks only to lose every fighter after their chapter ends and then for characters who are not playable always losing or as the community seems to call them - jobbers. And then theres the story itself, and while I wont get into much detail it does bother me knowing that while this game tries to be an in universe reboot to the previous continuity there are so many changes already happening before Raiden gets his visons, like how all of a sudden everyone is on Shang Tsung's Island during Mk1, or how Quan Chi was present in the entire game when he shouldn't return until MK4 or how even some characters backstories and motivations are changed, ect. I always liked to presume that the reason why is that MK9 took place an a separate dimension from the old continuity where the events leading up to armageddon happened very differently thus leading to Shao Kahn winning and not Taven and (Spoilers to MK11) that dose now seem to be the case in some sence.........InOtherWordsItotallyCalledIt. I also felt it was trying to be too edgy with its over the top gore, like in the old mk games the fatalities would be simple but to the point while also being goofy and self aware at times while these new ones are just trying to being dark, grimm and over the top like what some people claim and think thats all MK was back in the day and now seems to be what people know more about now rather then the gameplay. And to some that might say thats Always what made mk a popular series, well to that I say, if other fighting game franchises don't have to Relay on flashy finishers or some sort of gimmick then could you really say that mortal kombat is the greatest fighting game series... However I overall still say this is probably one my favorite Mortal Kombat games and its only a shame it hasn't been rereleased on current devices, it would be nice to see a remaster of some sorts of it one day.
