what?! there's no such thing as a "complex combo". Just keep up the pressure, and put out decent 25% - 30% combos. These guys might as well take on their own 2014 versions. Shit would be the same. They are gods.
This was the 1st MK event I ever watched. Back then it was all Tom Brady, PL, Justin Wong and Chris G. Crazy how the competitive trajectory for the meta and players changed so fast in such a small time.

Don't think I've ever actually seen this Brady guy win anything before. Kudos to him for punishing the other guy's cheap spamming of fireballs by switching to Noob and spamming equally cheap shadows - he gave thee poor guy a taste of his own medicine :)
The first major for mk9 this game had only been out a few weeks when this happened. There was controversy at the time with Tom Brady winning since he was a tester for NRS . It's fun to watch this before so much was discovered this vanilla Johnny Cage before the f3 frame trap was discovered and this basic Lao before the 2,4 low hat frame trap and even an entire year before bird lao was discovered. Just imagine how busted this day one Lao was all that untapped potential, 2 , 4 low hat , teleport early 3 frame trap instant dive kicks, 1,1,2,1 being 0 on block leading to multiple frame traps.... A truly deadly and super broken busted OP character and nobody knew it yet .
Noob Saibot is actually a pretty easy character to use. If you know his B1 2 1 4, you're pretty much golden. Using that combo, you can perform resets (with the Black Hole), numerous corner juggles (with his Up-Shadow), and even perform some pretty sweet X-Ray combos (for some flash B) ). Combining this with correct spacing using Shadow Clones, you're good to go. The game wasn't even a month old during this, but even still, Tom was able to use Noob's spacing to his advantage. Pretty sick.
Regardless of what people say about Noob, that was one solid last match. He is a very limited character in what he can do, but very difficult to work around if he is zoning you.
One of the things I love about these matches, is that, unlike a lot of prior speculation, X-Ray moves aren't really causing too much immediate turnaround in a match, like was expected. It DOES happen, of course. (They're insanely damaging, after all.) However, I've seen more skill-based turnarounds than actual X-Ray spam. This is some great shit, guys.
hmm....I have always been curious about something. What if Mortal Kombat, from 9, is made into mortal kombat 10, but in addition for the Gameplay, it would be inspired by Killer instinct for all the fighters, including the favorites Scorpion, ermac, nightwolf, Liu Kang and even Kitana, all have their own unique Ultra Combos, like Kitana's ultra being inspired by B. orchid's. Just use your imagination.

I think the battle damage is fine. It shows how brutal this game is. And besides if you get in a 2 round fight with someone like Baraka you aren't walking out with just a cute scratch on your cheek. You're gonna be missing some flesh.
Who the heck would dislike this?!?! Even a Capcom fanboy and not a MK owner as myself can appreciate and even love the matches displayed here. I even had to rewind the 15:45 to 15:56....Badass! Nice to see the 90's return...XD Now missing...the arcades.

Tom brady really jew'd perfect legend out of those last matches with noob. All he did was stand on the other side of the screen and spam the shadow people.
People say tom brady were using the same tricks al over again, But thits a tournament there are no rules.To be honest the other guy is stupid for trapping in his tricks all over again.
I don't understand how people think that spamming is unfair/lame. Noob is a zoning character for a reason, to be able to zone someone away from him and punish from far away. Like what the commentators say, he has great space control. Most fighting games have their own archetypes of characters with some using the same moves as the base of their strategy and gameplay. What makes zoning different from spamming is that spamming is repeating the same move without any tactics or adapting to the situation while zoning is arranging the game in such a way that the opponent must play a certain way (in this case he played the keep away game and when the opponent was punishable he teleported to him and command grabbed which shows signs of adapting) . So even though you might think it's "lame" =)) it is its own strategy and deserves recognition.

On the contrary, the FGC has some of the best commentators in e-sports. You realize that this was played less than a month after this game was released? It was completely fresh for everybody, including the commentators.
They skip fatalities to make the game move on faster. It's mostly due to big tournaments don't have much time to set up between matches so need to waste it watching a quick cut scene.
PL just admited that Brady came to him before the match and cried his eyes out that he needs this win and ask PL to take a dive. And PL did it wtf. Thats why he used characters he doesnt play. PL deleted the video now. He said that he even talked to Brady during the match when to do what so it would be believable.
he also uses the move 40 times vs Liu Kang with 4 botchs of it during the 2nd round and 20 times vs shang 17 of which are in R1 which was everything he hit him with bar one hold into the corner. Either you are blind or you have the short term memory less than the time it takes a clone to make it across the screen. or you in fact love this game to the point of being a fanatic either way I've had enough of you, enjoy trying to big up someone for doing 1 move 60 times (64 including the botches) :>
haha, you sitting watch to make sure no one talks down MK9? don't worry this game will have loads of follow on titles, ed boon is using it's engine in another DC game next year and he is talking about wanting to revive more older franchises like KI and put them into this horrible engine. just find it funny that an MK game hasn't broken 2m sales since the first game on the megadrive yet it still has a rabbid fanbase eating it up.
Do the commentators even play Mortal Kombat? They get a bit off topic or they get super hyped over the X-rays. Tom using Noob Saibot was pretty bad. I think Tom Brady got much better in later stuff. But this video is pretty sucky mostly because of the commentary.
Well your choices are Street fighter, Tekken, Mortal kombat and street fighter. Street fighter is all about special attacks and has hardly any combos, Tekken is the opposite of that, Mortal kombat is about using juggling combos while chaining them with various special attacks and Soul calibur has no special moves but about 10x more combos than the other games. My personal favourite is Soul calibur, then Street fighter, then Mortal kombat and Tekken last
@DSN107 ehh you have a point, but if there is anything i noticed about Kung Lao its that he's mostly speed and doesnt have as powerful attacks as, say, Cyrax, Jax or Sheeva. honestly it seems as though you can beat him if you block when you need to, out maneuvar him (perhaps with speedy characters like Liu Kang, Johnny Cage or Kabal) and corner him when you get the chance and try your best NOT to get cornered by him. sometimes it helps to study characters by watching Gameplay :-)
It's no problem, guy, but my argument is based more on the fatalities. Do you need to be passionate about MK and the fatalities to be good? No. You could be passionate about 2D fighters in general and the playstyle, but you don't need to adore the gore or the history of MK at all. I'm not trying to attack you, Mr. Marcus person, so sorry if this comment comes off as a lecture.
@YCRestEasyN Ironic because that is what i repeat to my friends i f he kepps preformnin g the same moves doesn't he become predictable the asnwer yes and no although he spams the same attack he uses strategy at the same time by awaiting his opponent to do his next move he spices up his approach therefore even spaming is sophisticated
@GutsLCF heres my tip, just be patient... keep dash blocking closer to him (unless you have a teleport character) and eventually you should be able to get to him and combo/punish or if noob saibot teleports then its an easy punish since he spins in a ball then lands down for an easy combo
why is that unfair if i was playing against him i put my controller on the ground because im only dying then if you have skills you let him come out the corner mk deception is better because its not in a 2d perspective

Think about it like this: they play 10 matches. Each would have a fatality that lasts 10 seconds. Right there you waste 1 minute, 40 seconds. AND HAY THERS A WHOL MATCH RITE THURR
@aristides1002 Zoning is a tactic in fighting games to win by keeping your opponent at a distance...but you have to be smart about it....its spamming if you do it constantly with a plan
I disagree with the commentator. I think the battle damage in this game is great. There's no need to tone it down but i think they should add an option to disable it in the game menu.
