The newest big-screen adaptation of the Mortal Kombat arcade series is packed full of characters from the fighting game titan's long legacy. In fact, casual viewers may not be entirely sure who some of these people are, especially if they stopped playing the games back in the 16-bit era.
What's up with that flying demon who gets [awesome fatality details redacted]? Is that invisible reptile monster really in the games? Who's the guy with the giant hammer? Josh Lawson's performance as Kano is kinda similar to Jai Courtney's Boomerang in Suicide Squad (2016). Great acting and they were also the reason the movie didn't become completely boring.

So you try to invalidate their opinions by saying things like "they obviously never played the game" so they don't understand the movie". People who love the game and have played it since the original came out dislike the movie for many reasons as the movie has plenty of issues. If you like the movie that's fine but don't try and invalidate the opinions of others based on that, just accept people think differently.

I have a mixed opinion. It's well done and the actors do a good part for the most. It has great visual and dresses. However it has hollywood type-like innaccuracies for adaption and marketing. I absolutely dislike the fact they're randomly slapping new characters. I didn't like how the focus shifts too much from Liu Kang.

@@Koraxus I think their idea was to have a character that people can relate to....that was brand new. You know for the new generation. I'm mixed about the movie too. I don't hate it nor really dislike it. I did enjoy the idea of the 'birthmark' and having to 'unlock' their secret move or something. That was cool.

MK 95 has the better story and build up, in my opinion, and is just the OG that got it right and started it all. MK 2021 has the blood, the better effects, THE R finally, it just has so much more which is good, however, less at times to EXPLAIN MORE per se can play out much better. I definitely don't hate MK 2021 it was awesome! MK21 is not an improvement overall and MK95 is still my favorite honestly, but, MK21 is DEFINITELY an upgrade to a certain degree if that makes sense.

In the case of Reiko, the name, weapon and Shao Khan`s court position resemble the original, but the appearance and personality are quite wrong. In the games and in the MKX comic it is shown that the main characteristic of the character is his intelligence and patience to set up schemes .. while in the film he is just a big, dumb guy with a hammer

I am surprised Kabal would still be wearing his old NYPD badge now... maybe we will see a Curtis Stryker throw away character in the next movie. I don't care as much for their version of the story over the actual lore, but I do appreciate the little nods here and there and are just enough to keep me interested af.

Kalling Kabal obscure despite him being playable in 5 out of 11 games (not kounting re-releases of MK3), also Cole has gotta go, Cole exists as a way for the audience to understand whats happening in the film, Cole isn't a character he's a plot device, Johnny is a character that fills the same role but he's actually an MK kharacter and not some fanfic OC halfbaked by the writers (I say this as a guy who's been an MK fan for 20 years since I was 6 years old)

I’m a die hard fan so i definitely except all the movies.. even Annihilation. I was hoping they would have used the OG Shang Tsung since he was used in the recent mortal kombat 11 as well.. the MK universe is so vast it’s impossible to incorporate everything and appeal to everyone

very true.. but they coulda gave it alil more ACTUAL fan service. Cole and nitara should have NEVER been used, half of the movies cast was spread over the first 3 games (even though this is an introduction movie) and there's actual Tan people in the MK universe, like Tanya and Jade, who coulda been used in that role of Mileena.

Nitara, Edenia, are all that is products of MK2 and onward. they could have told an excellent story if they had better character reveal pacing. like how can you begin to connect the dots of characters like Mileena or even Kabal, without first checking off Kitana, edenia, or even Shao Kahn. and just being 100% I don't know any MKDA fans who actually played or liked Nitara. I've been a fan since the 90s and this just wasn't it, less woulda been SO MUCH MORE.

It's pretty easy to see that the next movie is going to align with the original Mortal Kombat movie! Basically they'll end up on the boat and Scorpion and Sub-Zero will be under control by Shang Tsung. Goro and Mileena will be back as well.

Film was decent, clearly sagged in some areas. The real issue I had was the lackluster musical score compared to the first movie. The original will always be iconic for that opening techno anthem with a guy just screaming MORTAL KOMBAT!! Bring more of that into the sequel and it would be much better.

I think the MK movie or even a sequel will not be enough to flesh out the characters and allow us fans to truly enjoy them.....MK should have been made into a SERIES...that way the developers can take their time and expand on the characters giving their back story and everything we need about them....just like in the game....a 2hr movie is not enough...we need it in a series... Who agrees?

Yea, Chris Pratt would do a good job as Johnny cage, but I personally feel that John cena would do a better job. I feel like he just has a better look as johnny cage, and he might be more natural in the character.

He was only Sub-zero in MK1 and MK:Mythologies. MK9 doesn't count because that only retold what happened in 1-3.

he can't. that's a story arc that comes from Quan chi. since the movie made Bi-han into a slasher villain, there was no mention of Quan chi. hell scorpion shouldn't even exist tbh. fine example of when directors don't know the source material well enough and take too many creative liberties.
