I still remember my mother getting this game for my brothers & I even though we were dead poor, she knew how happy this made us. 23 yrs later I appreciate it even more
That's dope. Only true 80s babies will appreciate the struggle and subsequent gratitude we had for our parents back in the day. My mom would go mall to mall on launch day for the newest drop, because she knew how happy it would make me - prior to kids just buying everything online without getting off their couch, and charging daddy's credit card while they're at it. What's crazy is the prices back then were even more expensive than they are now - it's like game prices have gone through deflation - so $99 for a new drop was a pretty penny back then - $190 in today's money, if I'm going back to like a Street Fighter drop on SNES...I remember that one coming home vividly. That said, only haters will bash the game or troll in general, because that's exactly what the new generation is, a bunch of entitled clowns - Jeez, have I become the grumpy, old head. First, reminiscing about Jordan prices as a kid, and availability, and now this,...damn. But just going through a MK franchise recap in 2023, as we are a month away from MK1 - the new MK1, and it looks F'ing incredible. From the day I remember tip toeing in an arcade watching the original MK drop, and heads being ripped off, to what they are producing now...and how explicitly. Time's have changed. But yeah, this game wasn't great, and HARD AF, but was a good filler for MK fans to keep them engaged on the franchise and have them do something a bit different as a side scroller. I'd say after MK4, the series was dead to me. X kinda had me intrigued, 11 was bomb, just picked that up cheap for PS5, but I think MK1, with its throwbacks and just real next gen system build, willl be the best one yet....since UMK3, of course. Cheers mate!
This is one of those games you play once, get frustrated as all hell, painstakingly work through each level little by little, finally manage to finish it, then NEVER play again.
For me it was a game you think looks super cool in screenshots in magazines and don’t read any of the reviews, ask for it for Christmas and then hate yourself for asking for it after playing it for 5 minutes. I was a dumb 9 year old
@@anjumbinanam6690 It's true. I respect your opinion on how Bi-Han got the short end of the stick in both timelines. Even in his small span as Sub-Zero, accomplished and fulfilled two impossible missions at great odds. Ed Boon and Netherealm studios just have a habit of degrading, downgrading and retconning their MK Characters for no reason at all. It adds nothing to the story of both timelines neither does it improve them. MK characters and the universe itself has a lot of potential to the point I'm even starting to prefer it rather than DC Comics. The really to respect their lore more.
@@anjumbinanam6690 That's why I'm saying his time as Sub-Zero is still relevant throughout MK's near 30 year long span. His literally the blueprint of MK's infamous rivalry despite the franchise's faults and flaws. Kuai Liang just picked up from he left of. He is the OG.
Bi han was in his own tier,Look at his move list/skill set and compare them to all MK 1 Players+ (Meaning you can add new players from Sequel games) and his shit lol (Abilities and Credentials) would blow (-) every other Kharacter off the charts. Rivaling Liu Kang Himself, only cause he's the ProTag Modeled after Bruce Lee Himself.
Impressive play through! I played this shit back when I was 9, and needless to say, it kicked my ass lol. Never made it past the wind stage. Happy to see it all the way through 21 years later! Cheers.
If this game would've actually caught on, they probably would've made an entire Mythologies series with a Scorpion game, a Johnny Cage game, and so on with all the characters. That probably was what they originally intended to do. But ended up scrapping it since this game really wasn't very successful.
It was certainly one of the hardest games I played for Playstation 1 at the time, I remember it took me forever to get to the end, another very difficult game I played but for Mega Drive was Chakan, but this one I couldn't make it to the end.
+ks22 MK:M is child's play. There are so many ways to stunlock mobs and bosses it's ridiculous. I've done Very Hard mode with limited healing items and even got the blooper reel. This game isn't even a challenge.
This was the hardest game i ever play as a kid😂😂😂 i remember the sewer map had me cofused asf i was like 11 tryna figure out how to be it with no memory card so everyday i had to start the whole game over from the beginning😂😂😂😂😂
well he said for Mortal Kombat and before this game there was no combo counter and damage given. If im not mistaken I believe MK3and MK3U came after this and so before this game there was no Damage and combo counter so I guess thats pretty cool.
Просто шедевр. Музыка, фоны, атмосфера, видео - просто нереально круто! Уже прошло лет 20 с момента когда играли в эту игру и до сих пор - куча эмоций! 💥👍
+jose rovelo I been killed this game on very hard difficulty mode, making it look too damn easy to completed the entire game without a official strategy book guide.
jose rovelo Only the creme de la creme of the Mortal Kombat fraternity could ever hope to complete this game, being a Grand Master in the use of Sub Zero in every MK game preceeding this, and also in every subsequent MK release up to and including Mortal Kombat X, of course I completed this also ! Just sayin......
Saw my brother playing this back in 1999, played and finished it mysef in 2010, then again in 2016 and now thinking of playing it again. still the best game for me
I beat this game. Long story short, my Blockbuster Rental went far beyond it's limit and I owned this game. Literally and figuratively owned this. You put man hours into this if you never gave up; simple, not at all.
I did not know how to defeat Shinok as a child and I gave up trying. And now, after 23 years, I saw, how it could be done. Knowledge is power. Thank you 🤝
You actually can save up the ice refill items, and repeatedly attack his giant form with Polar Blast to kill him. He falls off the bridge once his health is depleted.
Very much agreed. If it wasnt dying on Fujin stages or that damn jail stage. It's getting to Shinook and not knowing how to put damage on him because of his barrier. Never even beat it.
The significance of the 3 elevator floor levels in the final area are quite something..... being as it’s “mythological” , the first an odd symbol , the next a yin yang dark light symbol , then a mother f’ing tree of life symbol..... So “mythologicaly” the first symbol is representing our lower body , two legs, center and the circle is a special point you learn in meditation called kundalini, spiritual/psychic energy, the next symbol represent our mixture of good and bad energy light and dark if you will... and the last is the tree of life if you raise kundalini with a proper balanced mixture of air through the tree of life channels in our body you become enlightened.
Man, I remember almost wanting to break my N64 playing Mythologies. Not to mention the soul crushing message that shows after beating the Fire temple on easy, "Your access to the Netherrealm is denied. Play on medium difficulty or higher." Good times! I ended up mastering the game after countless hours and deaths.
So, this story takes place before the 1st MK tournament? Thats cool. It also explains a good portion of lore. I watched this video because my favorite MK character is Sub-Zero, but I never managed to own/play this game.
This transported me right back into the 90's again. Going to blockbuster with my friends on a Friday night sleepover to rent this and a movie. Loved this game. Cheers.
It’s the hardest MK game ever made . First time I play it back to 1997 ,my friends give me that game for my birthday. I was 9 year old . Now I’m 37 and still play it in my original psx PLAY STATION . This game it’s not for all players . I hear people says that game suck . Absolutely wrong. It’s difficult, and this is what I love on this game . Atmosphere, music and combo hits . It’s a treasure. It’s only for original players.
Notice the lip quiver by Quan Chi at 41:21 when Sareena first approached him about Sub-Zero so cheesy he was about to laugh his ass off must’ve been the best take they could get without either one dying of laughter
I saw this in a magazine one time years and years ago, and I always wondered "is this like mortal Kombat, but a whole ass game??" And I always wanted to try it, but I never saw it in stores. I probably would have loved it back then. In fact I just randomly thought of it today, and was like "I can RU-vid it! There's no reason I should have to wonder about it anymore!" Lol
Man I had this game when I was like 8 years old or so and never made it passed the first level :c so I decided to draw the Sub-Zero that was in the booklet inside the CD case..
Bro it’s insane we had the same experience! Made my mom get this when I was 7 years old, had no idea what to do in the first level so I cried in frustration telling her it was broken 😂
It was a good point for the mythology of mortal Kombat, introducing so important characters like Shinnok, Quan Chi or Fujin (Ok, Fujin isn't very important😢)
This is one of the hard as fuck games i've played during that playstation era when it came out. Play it with a faulty controller and u will agree with me
Rentes this game as a child, took it back to blockbuster after a day or two. Now looking back at it and remember why. I felt like i was on drugs just watching the scorpion vs sub zero figjt. Kudos to this guy
