Would it be possible packing a pair of socks in a bag or purse whenever you leave the house for just such an occasion? Even lightweight ankle socks, which could be thrown away and replaced with another pair with each use. They could come in handy if a friend needs a pair if they find themselves in that situation.
I actually do that! I also recommend my guests to pack some too if they’re wearing shoes that don’t have sock, when I know I won’t have enough slippers especially
I do that for my own protection to be honest. If I'm wearing sandals in summer and visit someone, I take off my shoes and put on socks bc I don't want *their* sweat and germs on my feet lol
Oh! Like those disposable socks at department stores when you try on shoes? It definitely would work in the summer when people are more likely to wear sandals/ open toe shoes.
Some people pack thin folding sandals/ slippers things in their purse to be extra prepared (still worn with socks though, sheer or thick socks are worn all the time by most adult women at least)
Honestly, just carry back up socks with you. No socks cause hot? Backup socks. Wearing nice heels you shouldn't wear socks with? Backup socks. Just totally forgot socks? Backup socks
Wife stole your dog toy? Backup socks. Neighbour on fire? Backup socks! Stabbed a man in 2011, in a bar’s dirty bathroom and you’re fleeing the country because police are investigating camera footage under suspicions of illegal cock fights which you may or may not have been a part of since you needed some quick cash to fuel your Mexican coke I mean cola addiction? Backup socks.
No excuse for japan to be such a stuck up society full of unwritten rules to be fake and awkward as hell. What a horrible place to live in especially as a woman.
In India, my mom would kill me for wearing the same socks as outside, inside the house. We mostly don't wear anything, but sometimes wear slippers inside the house during winter.
In sweden we don’t really care, as long as you take your shoes off when you enter. We don’t have slippers for guests either. Obviously in the winter everyone will be wearing socks but in summer a lot of people walk around in sandals and crocs which would be a fashion crime if you wore socks with them 😂
I'm living in Central Europe and it's the same here. We take our shoes before entering home or in hallway, different is that we don't offer slippers that much it's up to everyone (my grandma offers them cuz she live in family house), so we are also more calm when our guests have socks 😊. PS. I still can believe that in US they going on bed whit shoes on🫥.
In Hawai'i we all take off our shoes and slippers or whatever footwear outside and just walk around barefoot. It depends on the household but majority of us like 95% are all okay with you being barefoot as a guest. This is coming from a local perspective. I never had anyone tell me to wear house slippers or socks in their home. I only do it for those few houses that I know who do prefer you wear house slippers or socks so I have a few pairs of socks in my bag just in case. It's all about culture. A lot of this comes from all the immigration of Chinese, and Japanese to Hawaii to work on the plantations and the intermarriage of a lot of them to Hawaiians since the late 1800s. It's just really normalized now to be barefoot at anyone's house. No shame lol it's the culture we have.
I’m Canadian and I don’t go anywhere that I know is someone’s house without socks. Even if I’m wearing flip flops I’ll keep socks in my pocket it’s just gross if I dont
i don’t mind wearing socks. i actually have a funky sock collection that includes shrek socks, guitar socks, blood pattered sock, invader zim socks, i could go on
Not wearing Sox while it is hot is terrible. It doesn’t keep you cooler. Also just don’t wear shoes or sandals. Nothing to make your feet sweat. Less Bacteria on your feet when bare.
I dont wear my shoes in my house but I usually am barefooted... my feet are always cold and socks make them sweaty so I don't wear them inside. But I wear them in the kitchen because I really don't want anything touching my feet
Have you tried moisture wicking socks? They are a little pricier but they tend to be more comfortable if you are a sweaty foot person. Having cold feet sucks! I need socks on 3/4ths of the year.
I'm Canadian and the idea of people not taking their shoes off in the house still BAFFLES me. I personally don't, because my home is also my workplace and there's OSHA stuff, but when I go to someone else's place the shoes go yeet. The only exception is my mother's place, because frankly it's filthy and sometimes there's pointy stuff on the floor.
dude I was at my friend's house and they always have their shoes off inside of their house. We're friends for months, I sleep over at her house. She sees me everyday! One day, I step on water and my sock is wet. So, I just take it off! later I come into her room and she's like absolutely shocked to see my feet! XD She said "bro, why you got the dogs out?"But dude there was no way I was going to be dealing with wet socks. No way
What is so funny to me is that in Korea, where I lived for a long time, everyone was so comfortable being barefoot and I am from a very cold place and I hate seeing feet XD I get it, Japan, I gotchu.
I could never not wear socks. But it doesn't get that hot in the UK but even when it does on those few days a year I feel my feet being more sweaty without socks? I love socks lol
This is Canada too. If you decide to wear open toe shoes without socks, but you know you're going to visit someone, you bring socks with you. As for "Well, what if you don't know you're going to visit someone?" then you have your conversation on the front porch instead
So happy I don’t live in Japan then, I very very much hate socks. I overheat easily, wearing socks on warm days is terrible and I don’t sweat easily namely on my feet. So this would just be torture for me.
My partner and I are planning to visit Japan later this year for our anniversary and your videos are honestly so helpful! I'm so worried about doing things to offend people and seeing your content has been awesome to help prepare us!
What about bringing your own slippers? Is that appropriate in Japan or not, as long as they’re clean? The last time I had a pair of slippers (I live in the northeastern U.S.A, for clarification), I wore socks with them because my feet sweat something terrible and caused for embarrassing odor to develop in my slippers, enough to make other people nauseous. :o
I think I'd bring separate socks, to protect from my gross socks lol. I don't want guests over, because most have no care to keep your place clean, so I always try to be the least complicated guest and would try especially hard in a country like Japan
Some foreign travelers bring their own packable slippers in their purse with them because it hides uncute socks and sweat spots. You can usually also buy them locally in Daiso for about a dollar.
Couldn’t I just bring some extra slippers that are in my backpack or is that seen as rude aswell since I wouldn’t have died on them or anything of the sort
Folks not wearing wicking socks is why I can detect that foot stank from a mile away. I also am not ok looking at feet that are not properly cared for.
Would it be considered rude to have a pair of slippers or other indoor footwear on me that I would put on? Because I assure you that it really doesn't make a difference whether I go barefoot or socked in terms of sweat.
In my household, if they’re not staying the night, they are not be able to takeoff their shoes or nothing they’re able to take off the jacket, but anything else no
My 87 year old Korean mom will give you the look of death if you come into her home and not remove your shoes. I remember my friends thinking it was a weird rule at my place when I was younger but as an adult I can appreciate the practice, especially for hygienic purposes. It’s just gross to walk into someone’s home with shoes that you’ve been who knows where in 😂. It’s just a nice practice and show of respect for someone’s home. Some unwritten rules aren’t that bad ❤. Much love from Washington State!
Floor is floor. Whether or not a person’s feet are on it, floor won’t be clean. The utility for wearing socks indoors is zero, there’s no reason. Sweating feet would only be caused by wearing socks, going barefoot wouldn’t cause a person’s feet to sweat. Additionally, not only is there no utility for wearing socks, the stretchy material socks are made from pushes the toes together, which would technically put the individual at greater risk for bunions later on in life. (Assuming they repeatedly wore socks indoors for a lifetime)
I'm from Canada where we take our shoes off. I dont mind if you dont have socks but if you can describe your jerks as "scaly", the house party just turned into an intervention.
Because nobody wants to see weird fleshy digits touching everything. Bare feet or socks are so gross id rather clean up dirt than see or smell someones feet.
You know those "disposable" hotel slippers that some hotels give you? Just bring a pair with you when you're going to someone's house. It's a slim package and won't take up much space!
This is totally me when I invite someone to hang out at my house. Like I'm not gonna wear shoes chillin in my own house obviously, but I put on a fresh pair of socks so no one has to see my feet. I guess I have the opposite of a foot fetish cause yeah sweaty toes, cracked heels 🤢. I have hung out at other peoples houses to eat & cant help but notice their 40 year old husband's man feet propped up on an automan, bunions & all. Even if you got a pedicure, they're only fresh in my mind for like a day then you get dirt under the toe nails.
In my culture it is the same if you where shoes in the house depending on the person they might kick you out. If that does happen (most of the time doesn’t)go home and get socks. To fix that problem in my families household we have this things where you put your foot in (with shoes) and it puts this sock thing around your shoe. Couldn’t you do that?
i mean, the sock doesn't stoo the sweat 😂... I would advise not to wear socks but to carry socks in your bag.. I do that in my friends houses and Im in the othe side of the world of japan xD literally 12 hours difference 😂
I just bring a spare pair of socks on hot days or I was doing any kind of physical activity, I don't live in Japan but I don't like shoes inside my house so I take my shoes off in my friends houses and make sure my socks are clean and not dragging dirt around
Are there any types of travel slippers that fit in a bag or anything like that? When you sweat through socks,or you don't pack anything and are wearing sandals, would it be easier to have those? They would live in the bag(s)
What about bringing your own slippers to a house you know will have many guests? Is it rude to be „prepared“ and kinda be expecting the hosts can‘t give everyone shoes?😅 to be both sweaty feet with or without socks are a lil hmm so making sure to have slippers on u would be kinda cool imo
well at least I, an Indonesian would always go barefooted and if im ever going to enter a place would wash my foot first before entering..... isn't it like better, no smelly feet or dirt?
