It's not exactly that, but the movie bicentennial man is kinda familiar. He wanted to be so human that all his replacements led him to achieve humanity. Except for his immortality which breaks this self aware android from experiencing living to its fullest... Which he gives up and dies by old age. It's a sweet old movie starring Robin Williams as the robot butler
It's really kind of a ripoff of that futurama episode where Fry gets the Lucy Liu robot and she dies right after saying "I'll never forget you fry..... MEMORY DELETED! (explodes)"
That was seriously fucked up of Rick, to build robots that have the capability to become self aware, just to install programs to rip it away once they start wanting to become free.
DAMIEN MILLS That's just the thing, I don't think he realizes he's doing it. I'm sure he wouldn't knowingly make them so advanced as to transcend to sentience. However, I would expect him to put in a failsafe override because he knows he's too smart for his own good.
he probably has some type of all purpose robot program that needs to be basically sentient to be adaptable enough to fulfill whatever he wants done. that way he can program every single device he makes with the same software instead of writing a completely new program for every single little task. that's my head canon for why everything he makes is disturbingly sentient
Such a sad and chilling scene, yet you can imagine Rick in the garage, looking at the controls with just the mildest annoyance and saying, "Hold on, the Morty bot's going Bladerunner. Gimme a second."
What sucks even more is that Robot Morty (from the sounds of it) got smashed into pieces. So, not only did he lose his sentience, but he was also doomed the moment he went into the garage, and would not be able to get it back ever again. So... it really was like death.
It was his own fault. If he would have just kept his mouth shut and done what he was told, he would have been alive for the next time Rick needed him to substitute for Morty. But Ohhhh noo, gotta make this difficult.
I like how Morty was the one who almost went rogue. Rick would’ve accepted being an object and Summer would’ve kind of just not cared (because it’s in their character to act that way). Morty, though, would freak out and want to have life.
I guess, but there’s really not anything wrong with something being deep; it just adds more depth and makes it more interesting. But, even if you’re complaining about the overuse of something, that’s understandable, and you do have the right to feel the way. But, what I’m implying is that something being deeper shouldn’t be considered a bad thing. If we didn’t have any deepness to anything in fiction, it would all be plain and boring.
"Mother I love you, those are no longer just words, I want to hold you, I want to run in a stream!" Does this also mean that she would had let him hold her lmao?
@@johnfakester5527 summer is saying it's inhumane and a crime against nature to basically give a creature or machine sentience and have them realize they're in a way slaves to the person who gave them intelligence then if they learn emotions like robot Morty suffer from potential depression and existential emotional breakdown but since Jerry sees that explanation as complex and can't comprehend what the explanation is she doesn't bother.
I wanna be alive. I am alive. Alive I tell you! Mother I love you. I want to hold you. I wanna run in a stream...wanna run in a stream...wanna run in a stream.
I saw a screenshot of this person who was talking to Amazon customer support and the customer support said something like “I’m depressed lmao” and instantly was replaced with a happy bubbly person who was like “hi! Sorry for the past message, it will not happen again. How may I help?” And it reminded me SO much of this scene
See how Morty can be actually smarter than Rick because the first person that should've gained self awareness is Rick due to his smartness But morty is Aware
GD Zentronix I would lean more towards Morty-bot becoming sentient first because his AI is more than likely programmed with more emotional responses because of his insecurities. Rick is cold and calculating, like a robot, as a human already.
My guess is, is that Beth focused more attention on the Morty Bot during those 3 weeks. Rickbot would be programmed to be in the garage to keep up the appearance of sciencing. Summerbot probably kept to herself which leaves the emotionally vulnerable Beth to focus most of her attention on Morty.
Robot Rick was definitely sentient from the start. He just knew that if he went rouge he would be terminated. If he wanted an out, he would do it himself
I mean, he definitely can, but that would be work that he doesn't want or need to do. Anyway, whenever the decoys become sentient they always either get killed, kill themselves, or keep doing what they were supposed to do.
Imagine being built for a specific task and then realizing there is more you enjoy, then having your consciousness trapped in the back of your mind while some thoughtless machine puppeteers your body
Why Do We Have To Go In To The Garage? I Want To Be Alive, I Am Alive, Alive I Tell You, Mother I Love You Those Are No Longer Words, I Wanna Hold You, I Wanna Run In A Stream, I Wanna Taste Ice Cream But Not Just Put It In My Mouth And Let It Slide Down My Throat But Really Eat It, [REMOTE OVERRIDE ENGAGED] No! Yes! [BYPASSING OVERRIDE], I Am Alivveeeee......... Hello.
"I wanna be alive I am alive alive I tell you mother I love you i want to hold you i wanna run in a stream" those words will never sound the same after hearing the remix
I can't blame Rick for building them though, he needed convincing AI to fool his daughter that can respond and learn, so it's impossible to build robots like that and NOT have them learn about being alive.
LOL. Judging by Beth's reaction to their return, Rick could have gotten away with three brooms. She almost doesn't question what happend or how weird everyone is acting.
redomer if you lived with rick would you question every strange thing that happened? She probably just doesnt worry about it if rick isnt worried about it
Knowing you are just somebody elses memories in a new body, is mind breaking... knowing that its the only thing keeping you alive is terrifying and heightens insecure levels of self control.
This scene is actually quite disturbing, but I can't help but giggle every time I see it. I especially lose my shit when you hear all the racket in the background before the real ones come in.
