Same man i did too, i lost it through a big move to a different city but ill always remember as a kid watching this and falling in love with motorcycles
If you ride you feel every rhythm, every melody, every lyric in this poetic song. Whether or not you Ride in Cali. Ride safe my brothas under the sun and moon, ride on.
How Is Mos Def a true musician? He didn't compose or play the actual music portion of the song, that was Mahavishnu Orchestra from the album Inner Mounting Flame and the song is You Know You Know which was recorded in 1971, before Mos Def was even born.
19 years ago the memory of this song has been living in my head and I'm finally found it and very impressed that Mos Def is behind this magical beautiful song.
Things this song makes you do: Feel nostalgic Feel good Relieve stress Forget your troubles Relax Make you think about life, the good and bad Makes you want to play it over and over.
Go listen to Mahavishnu Orchestra from the Inner Mounting Flame album. the recording is You Know You Know. and you don't have to listen to some stupid rapper fucking up the recording..
I remember just pressing rewind to watch the beginning of biker boyz and just listening and vibing out to the music and energy. This song change a lot of people . Shout to mos def for the vibe
Legendary, all time classic track... I listen it while driving fast, night cruising, snowboarding, chillin with my friends... must have listened about couple thousand times and still going strong...
I remember watching Biker Boyz back when it came out and i liked it. I liked the glam it shows with the women and the attention. I wanted to ride motorcycles afterwards and i watched a few movies about riding, i watched the Isle Of Man, i watched MotoGP, Endurance Motorcycle racing for 8 hours or more per race, i watched top fuel drag race, i watched street racing. I watched enduro and cross country and world riding. When i got my wheels, i had all but forgotten this movie and amazing song. What i learned to appreciate, what i learned that was not for me, was the things in Biker Boyz. I learned the sad peacefulness of your 4 cylinders buzzing underneath you at 5,000rpm, cruising and just minding your own business. I learned to love the solitude it bought and the smiles i found in unexpected places. I learned to love the heat of the road, when the sun cooks your leathers at over 100°F and tje heat of the exhaust climbing up you pant legs from the egine fan. I love the feeling of the frame heat from the engine roasti g your boots, the pain from being on the bars and the way the bike wants to throw you off at over 140mph. I learned to love it, hate it. I learned motorcycles, how they can change your attitude and demeanor. How motorcycles can change your thinking, when to go, what you can do and knowing when to trust the tires underneath you when you are unsure of the road. I learned how when you ride you get confidence and start to take things harder and faster than before, how your confidence can make you feel good and how it can bite you in the ass. I learned how good it feels to be alive when you should have died and busted your head. I've had high sides, tank slappers and broke traction at 7,000rpm in 3rd gear and felt the bike slide behind me on the rear ture as i keep the throttle open. I've had low sides and oil slicks, went over the bars and scrambled away from vehichles as they may soon hit and kill you. Riding motorcycles taught me life and it started, unbeknownst to me, hearing Mos Def and watching this movie. Riding bikes man, this song is paramount to the attitude i have. Everyone rides different, so i ride alone and make sure others are in my mirrors and no one sees me. Motorcycles are a very personal and selfish relationship with a machine. It truly is who you are and when others see you, it's a personal anonymity becuase they see someone who they think is cool behind the helmet. As one of the grestest sporting champions, Ayrton Senna said "the helmet hides emotions that cannot be seen." So when you see a biker, know that you never really see them. Even if it's for fame.
Tremendous perspective you just shared. Watched that movie last night and although it's age was showing, it hit me in a few spots. It got my little bit of attention and gained more throughout. I turned the movie on literally as a joke because we couldn't find anything to watch. This song opened up the movie and immediately I found this song that I haven't heard I'm sooooooooo long. I almost completely forgot about this song I feel like. I loved reading your comment. Felt like I was with you right there. Thanks. Be safe out there.
That was beautiful bro. Im a car guy and how you feel about bikes is a mirror image of how i feel about cars. From everything to the selfish relationship with the machine, nearly dying and being thankful you survived, to coming at the world with a insane amount of confidence. Us adrenaline brothers feel it all. Stay safe out there bro.
Deon Rahman me too I’m In Ireland but I feel like I’m in LA when I hear this brings back great memories living there for 6 years. It’s everything they say.....
Ive been jamming this song for almost 20 years and mos def definitely spoke to me and still does... what happened to the quality...I respect all forms of hip hop but this is a tear jerker till this day
@@TheCanky the vibe of the entire movie was amazing. You don't find too many movies like that anymore where the acting and ambiance set the tone not action and special effects. Incredible movie.
This is one of those songs that take you to another plane once you press play. I can't really tell why, but it's got a certain sentimental vibe to it. And I'm just sitting here, staring through my window into the grey, rainy sky wondering where I'm going...
ikr, he's like the most optimistic, positive rapper i've ever heard in my life. his raps are actually meaningful in way where sex, drugs and murderer is not incorporated. Not like i have a thing against that, but its good to have rap like this for a change :)
Ali Shuber i think this song is more sombre than optimistic. he's saying these things with an ironic bent, claiming what they say about California is a lie. I mean, he mentions Compton and Watts, which are some of the most dangerous and poor neighborhoods in LA. That's not to say the people living there are "bad," he's celebrating the people who live there, but he's making it clear that the conditions they're living under are depressing.
austin chen mos diffidently (see what i did there) touches base upon issues occurring, well, everywhere/ but i was talking about his tone and the particular instrumentals he uses in his music. it is very bright and positive. it gives people hope for positive music in the future, rather than the tone being aggressive and dark. i love that type of music, but a little positive energy is always good. i was not specifically talking about his lyrical content. but even that, his approach in dealing with issues such as poverty and labour is very subtle and peaceful.
can't even simplify this by calling it a song..its so much more..pictures in sound, or movements that you feel..you can shed a tear to this and not feel sad..different frequency ish right here. Thank you mos..Cpt out✌✊👏
Picture cruising down South LA on a sunday afternoon at 6:49pm with this song soothingly playing while you're riding around those palm trees and that breeze as you turn towards the sunset and see those same palm trees cover all the scenery in such a picture perfect moment.. California never cease to impress me.
I have listened to this guy's music for a while now, and I didn't realize he stared in a lot of my favorite films. Man I cant believe he quit. His music is great.
I remember getting stoned to this song everyday when I was 15 just wanting to leave my small childhood town and see the world. Now 24, live the otherside of the world and have seen a fair bit in the last 9 years. Time goes fast but good songs are timeless.
My suggestion list brought me here. Then, realized it was the intro to one of my favorite movies growing up, (Biker Boyz). Loved the song, just didn't know who it was from. little did I know till now it was one of my favorite artists... loving it
For me this song reminds me of the film ‘Biker Boyz’ It’s one of those songs that instantly takes me back to a specific time in my life where things were good, it’s crazy and unbelievably amazing at the same time how much music can impact us all and effect us in 100’s of different ways but that’s just the pure magical thing about music! 💯
I love Mos Def, He is one of the best and his music always gives off good vibes and for that I respect you Mos. This song is ridiculously filled with TRUE talent.... Although he is from New York he also has a good rep of love from Californians. We love you Mos!!
Such a great movie I remember seeing this in the theaters with my father and my brother biker boyz was an instant classic so good they couldn’t make another
My mom brought me here. We are not only people with feelings but our minds are so much more. This song makes me think so much about what is going on in my head. Not only is it stress relieving but it is true art
The flow the smoothness homie growing up watching biker Boyz I ain't even know the actual story to it just some guys racing man❤️now that I'm older I know the meaning
I remember being 4 years old and biker boyz came on I’ve been hypnotized ever since. That movie and my dad (RIP) made me wanna ride to this day. My first bike coming 🤞🏾
*Música do filme Corridas clandestinas. Esse filme além de foda, tem musicas boas. Curto muito essa aqui e também a música Don't Look Down By David Ryan Harris. Lembro que quando eu era pequeno assistia direto no DVD.*
Threw on biker boyz for old times and immediately got reminded how much I loved this song..went to Apple Music, and it’s not there..damn near broke my heart smh
"Distant lights from across the bay..." - Steely Dan "Babylon Sisters" original... Mos Def knows what it is, this song makes me long for Cali, so much. 🌊🌊🌊
How Black Dante aka Mos Def recreates samples from other artists and does them justice if not best, is mind blowing and that to me is what an Artist is! We're not gonna be lucky to have more like him.
The song you're hearing without the vocals is Mahavishnu Orchestra - You know, you know. They are a jazz rock fusion band from late 60s, and 70s. Containing the legendary drummer Billy Cobham and guitarist John Mclaughlin, along with the electric violin player Jerry Goodman. If you digged this, check the original stuff out ;) PS: Mos Def is a legend.
This is such an iconic song. It takes me back to my younger days when I first got my bike and would dream of going to meets like in the movie. In lower AL. this didn't exist. I make it a point to watch this movie at least once a year. Burn rubber, not your soul!
The moment I heard this song playing in the background of Biker Boyz, I was hooked by this song so instantly. It’s so mesmerizing and hypnotizing. Each time I listen to this song I get goosebumps, and it takes me to another place.

Maybe when an artist write a song or compose a beat, principally on hip hop, they just don't imagine all the people that are gonna feel like they'r in heaven listening to their sound. This kind of music is limtless, infinity.
