I had been on the fence for this one since finding out about it about a year ago. Today I fell off the fence. I was able to get the colossal at a local game swap event for $90. Incredible!
Just went and finally got the Colossus Edition and it should be here within the next week. Been wanting to get this and after watching a few videos I decided to get this game.
The game just comes with two rulebooks so you can keep one nice and beat one up. Or be able to let two people look at the rules at the same time. On the punch situation, most of them are duplicates if you've got the minis.
Having played, the oversize player boards are too much, but I wish there were a way to keep track of the counts of the icons on the regular size ones. I wound up ginning up a set of counters on Glitch to keep track of them.
The 5s and 10s of each resource go into the same compartment, and you're supposed to put some of each in both trays so you don't have to reach across the table. It is not obvious. At least it wasn't to me. I had to look at the "official" unboxing to figure it out.
Nice unboxing! I got the Colossus and liked the art so much that I kept one of each city type and one of each person type (military and workers/population) and kept them also in the tray with the minis. I will say I'm glad I kept a smaller worker/population chit because they don't give you a marker/cube for the scoreboard, so I'll be using the smaller worker/population chit to track that for each player. Resources are supposed to be two containers with the same resources in each so they can each go on one side of the table (in a higher player count game). So, you'll want to put the 1s and 5s of the Food together in equal bays. Same with the Ideas (scrolls and books) and Stone. Finally, the two smaller trays can hold the 1s and 5s of coins together and the 10s and 20s. Funny, because the 10s and 20s they gave us less than they said they were, so the bays with the 10s and 20s have only 12-13 coins in each.
I never teach without a drink - the pause is strategic as it gives me time to think before answering student questions. Unfortunately, I can never bring a drink when I give the Dvar Torah in shut on shabbat, which is once a month or so.

Is this game differentiated enough from Duel? When I look at the theme, cards and methods of scoring it just seems like a bigger version of that. If anyone’s played both I’d love to hear your perspective cos the theme of this game is right down my alley
There seems to be a bit of a weird trend happening where some companies want to make extra large versions of their games... I have no clue who is asking for larger boards or player boards??? I understand large boxes with expansion content and upgraded components and minis, but who has tables large enough to fit player boards that size? Not only does it make it harder to fit on the table, but it also means that you start to have trouble seeing to the other side of the table when the game takes up such a lot of table space... No idea who likes this stuff?
The game was originally designed with the larger boards. People complained about them being table hogs so they tried to re-design them into something with a smaller footprint. However, their early designs for the smaller boards left a lot to be desired in how they conveyed information so a fair amount of backers requested to have the original boards available as an add-on.
The backers who demanded the punchboards be included are, frankly, idiots. They DRAMATICALLY increased the shipping weight and manufacturing cost for literally nothing of value.
