Mosaic: A Story of Civilization on BGG: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/3...
Description from BGG:
Mosaic is an action selection game. On your turn, you will perform one of seven actions and acquire components.
Acquiring Components is important in creating the unique mosaic of your civilization. They are used as prerequisites for many new technologies, as well as for scoring. Also, by pursuing a specialization in one or more Civilization Components, you may be able to claim a ‘Golden Age’ of that type.

Mark, it's great to see you. I did have to laugh that at minute two you talked about handing out candy and then proceeded to talk about the game for an hour...the children! All kidding aside, you did a fabulous job with the unboxing and really took the time to go through everything. I don't watch unboxing videos as a general rule, but I will say BoardGameCoffee's is a wonderful exception. You said the word "Art" as you flipped by the"Art" Technology card...well done

I like that you unbox from the shipping carton, for those of us that backed the same thing it's easier to see if something was missing from our pledge etc. keep up the good work.

I never thought of it that way. Thanks for letting me know and watching :)

glad to hear you will do more content! Figured it was because of the kid when you started having less content.

I've backed at the Colossus Edition in the current campaign but have been wondering about the playmat. This video has put my concerns at ease and I will stick with the version that doesn't include the mat or the oversized boards. Really glad you caught the differences in soldiers. I was super curious about the different molds. Appreciate your content!

Thank you! I’m also happy that I caught that difference. I only realized when I was watching the video back in 4K while editing I was like “wait a second, that’s a different soldier in that bag” LOL and as far as that mat goes, it was a bit of a disappointment.

@@BoardGameCoffee hey, Mr Coffee, thanks for your Awesome 4K unboxing , as usual, great job! Reach out to Glenn/ Forbidden Games, he'll be more than Happy to make it right and replace it for you! Oh. And btw, that is Glenn's pic as the General Character card too! 😉

I've enjoyed most Glenn Drover games. I considered this kickstarter but due to limited shelf space I am glad I didn't back for size/weight constraints alone. I am really hoping they have this to try at Pax Unplugged next month.

Are you able to do a play through of this game in the new year?

Production was done by LongPack. They cut corners, use subpar materials, and overall have always found at least a few issues with their productions. Thankfully the future neoprene mats will be rolled in tubes and not folded.

The General is Glenn Drover, the designer. I think all the Leaders are people he knows.

The character minis are nice if you're a history buff, because they actually took the time to make them look like actual soldiers from the period. Egyptian soldiers look Egyptian, Roman soldiers look Roman, etc. That being said, with the level of detail they put into this, they should have gone the extra mile and made the buildings look faction-specific too.
@BoardGameCoffee
@BoardGameCoffee Год назад
I agree with that. Since recording this video, I’ve played the game a few times and it’s fantastic. The set up and tear down can be a pain in the ass but the game itself great experience.

Received mine the other week in Ottawa. Was a bit disappointed it was 1cm too wide to fit in a Kallax, whereas other games like Dwellings of Eldervale, Scythe Legendary Box, and Everdell Collector's Edition were smart enough to make the game box fit in a Kallax.

Boardgame companies need to take that shelf into consideration when making their boxes lol. It’s such a popular choice amongst board game collectors

you don't need any of the cardboard if you are using the minis and upgraded resources. so don't waste your time punching it if you are not going to use it..! :)
@BoardGameCoffee
@BoardGameCoffee Год назад
You’re right, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do… Or not going to do whichever statement makes more sense. I will not punch out the cardboard lol.

I actually like having more than one copy of the main rulebook. I am a bit confused about having two solitaire rulebooks unless I am misunderstanding what solitaire means.
@BoardGameCoffee
@BoardGameCoffee Год назад
The whole double book thing seems like an error. But since I have two rule books I might as well take advantage of it… Actually, now that I think of it I’ve been reading the online PDF version on my iPad lol.

I can weigh in on this too. Living here in Brazil, if you buy a board game it's usually going to be in Portuguese. You can find various types of media in English here, and there are quite a number of people here fluent in English to varying degrees. But it's not enough to where manufacturers are in any way inclined to supply a demand. I got Civilization: A New Dawn for my birthday, and it was in Portuguese. I'm learning the language a little here and there, but suffice it to say I needed to find a way to read the cards, etc. in English. It's easy enough to find the rule book PDF online, but finding actual PDFs of the different cards and everything proved impossible. I had to freeze frames from tutorial videos or do lengthy Google image searches, and even then, couldn't find everything. I'm sure my experience isn't super common, but I can imagine all kinds of reasons why players would want readily available print-ready PDFs of all the cards, rule book, etc. for any given game. It would be nice to see game developers start to take that into consideration as well.

This game looks amazing. Thank you for doing this . . . I really want to invest in the Collossus All In edition, but live in Brazil, and am going to have to pay another $100 or so just to get it shipped here . . . which seems risky for something you can't even see up close. This definitely helps establish whether or not it's worth the price. Even at a glance, knowing what board games cost, the price didn't seem that steep to me, but do you think it's worth the extra $1-150 to have it shipped here?
@BoardGameCoffee
@BoardGameCoffee Год назад
That’s a tough call to make. Shipping in Canada is also very expensive. I don’t remember how much it cost to ship this, but it probably wasn’t that much different. If you’re going to play it A lot than it could very well be worth the cost. Especially if you’re playing with multiple players, and you take into consideration the cost of entertainment, and what you’re getting out of it
@ScytheNoire
@ScytheNoire Год назад
Yes, they put in two rule books. No idea why. Yet, they failed to put in enough player aids for each player. What a waste of production money, putting double rule books but not enough player aids.
@ScytheNoire
@ScytheNoire Год назад
Oh, another production decision that made no sense. Of the 12 cardboard sheets, 8 of them are replaced by deluxe components. There was no need to include those 8 cardboard sheets. They could've sold those as addons if people wanted both, but it's a huge waste of production costs and shipping costs. I recently got both Mountain King games from Burnt Island (shout out to Canadian publisher who always nails it) and in the deluxe KS versions, they don't waste money including duplicate cardboard that is replaced by deluxe components. Board game profits are slim already, last thing you need to be doing is wasting money in production.
@BoardGameCoffee
@BoardGameCoffee Год назад
Three more player aids would’ve been much more better than double rule books. Especially considering there’s access to the PDF rulebook. Which is what I read in bed so I don’t have to turn the lights on
@BoardGameCoffee
@BoardGameCoffee Год назад
I was just about to mention that. I just put the game back in the box since I record the video and now I don’t have any place to put those extra sheets of cardboard tokens.
