Was curious to hear your thoughts on this one. We share a similar taste in games and I had a feeling this would hit for you as it did for me; glad to see that was the case. I couldn’t agree more as I don’t play too many Civ games myself but this hit that sweet spot as far as rules and complexity. Great review!
Nice review. I think you explained the essence of the game very well. Just a small note. The cache tiles should be turned face up before the game starts.
Great to see your review on this. Glad to know it's not just me that found the Empire Scoring a bit random which made the game drag, especially at 2 players. So I will also look to house rule this. This problem does not seem unique to this civ game though as I have had similar issues with another civ game overstaying it's welcome. I think more thought could be put into the design of the end game for these type of games.
I’m glad you like this one. It is high on my list of gams to buy this year. I almost backed the big KS version with the plastic models but just couldn’t justify the cost involved including shipping. I agree with you about a scoreboard. It was included in the expensive KS version but surely it could’ve been included in the retail version as well? The same as you, this looks like the civ game for me as, even though they are good games, I haven’t the time to spend 3 hours or more playing some of the other options. I think I will be shuffling those end game trigger cards in the first part of the last third of the deck so that the game doesn’t become too drawn out.
I purchased civ a new dawn + terra icognita recently and if that's too convoluted will have another look at this. We love ark nova and Terrarforming mars. This could well be in our style but can't justify having civ new dawn and this
Tapestry is a heavily abstracted Civ game, my group dint like it, it was not logical in its progression, it was point salad, and unsatisfying in terms on understanding your progress. How do you feel this plays in initial comparison, thx
I haven't played Mosaic, but looking at your video, I got overwhelmed with all the components and queasy like with a Feld design. I like the multiple paths to victory, but prefer when those are 'streamlined' in a different way - like multi-purpose cards (e.g. A Universal Truth).
Very good and clear review. However, from the comments i see that the game has its issues and is far from perfect. To be honest, for that much money i actually expect a perfect game with zero issues...
Interesting, you have all the complaints I had and for those reasons the game fell flat for us. My other big complaint was that money is too powerful and makes the work action and associated tracks not worth it.
Looks like it tried to copy Concordias presence and simplicity of actions except with tracks, area control and tableau building like TM instead of deck building
Horrible game. Zero Civ feeling, the cards have zero theme (since you play tons of them, none you're gonna remember), horrible setup, horrible board, minimal interaction, way too long for its depth, no score track, the card distribution is broken (basically every time a new card is flipped, if it's good it gets snatched right away, ultimately the row cluttered with bad ones), you constantly have to calculate stuff from the board or your tableau, and the list goes on and on. This was a really big let down, and I can't understand the hype. Just a miserable experience, I zoned off halfway through, still finished with over 300p and tied for first, losing on the first tiebreaker. Would have won if I'd spent more time calculating on my last turn, but I was just rushing the game to end.
