Notice the arches above the horse harness. Called a duga, it functions like a suspension system, making it easier on the horse on bumpy trails. Unique to Russia
Beautiful images. My compliments. Hopefully the Ukrainian situation will end soon, so that we can visit Russia and Ukraine again. Beautiful and impressive heritage!
Many of Moscow's historic and important buildings remain, but it is now a thriving modern city that rivals any of the world's great capitals. Nice restoration job, NASS.
Unfortunately, a lot was demolished. 10 years ago I witnessed how a beautiful staircase was removed from a 19th century house and replaced with a regular cheap one. And my beloved Kitaygorodskaya wall was destroyed in the 1930s(
It’s unbelievable! Everytime I see these videos I literally want to cry because of excitement. Here we see times before two world wars and revolution in 1917, we see country still ruled by the emperor. Many thanks from Russia 😊🙏🏼
The Tsar? My grandmother was still living there at this time, too! She wouldn't leave for America until 1914 -- six years later ... luckily, just before WWI broke out.
At this time, the capital of Russia was not Moscow, but St. Petersburg (then called Petrograd). As such, access to the inside of the Kremlin was perhaps the easiest it would ever be.
This one is a fascinating one just because it's basically the last state of calm before a LOT of storm for these particular people. They went from autocracy to war to social upheaval to autocracy to war pretty much nonstop for the next 40 years shortly after this.
Wrong, there was never calm in the tsar-dictatory. Just starving, genocide, pogroms, gulag, despotism, oppression, illiteracy. But it changed to the better with the foundation of the sovietunion.
Russia, Mosca inverno 1907-1908. Sandro Aosta Italia
This was a time when Nicholas II was the emperor of Russia, he was of half Danish and German royalty. And Russia and France were in an alliance. This was before Lenin came to power and destroyed everything. He killed the whole family in 1918. The end of the Russian Empire.
I can ear and taste the cold from my screen ahaha.. aaaah 1 horse power, that was eco friendly! Also question if someone can help : @3:22 one of the shop signs to the left is COIFFEUR, why is there a french sign for a barbershop in Moscow in the early 1900? So many frenchies everywhere on earth back in the days, and now we are on the endangered species list lol.
French was spoken in Russia by the middle class and further up. Besides shop signs, this is reflected in literature and many daily features such the most popular Russian salad "Olivier" served by a French chief Olivier who worked in Russia. The recipe was altered later due to the lack of certain ingredients in the Soviet Russia.
Because France and Russia were in an alliance since 1891 - 1917 , Франко-Русский Альянс, the economic and industrial revolution happened and gained both countries. Unfortunately everthing was destroyed when Lenin came to power. If not for Lenin, my guess is Russia would have been like any other big European country, no communism and normal democracy would have been established.
@@thatMikhail Aristocrats spoke French until 1812, before the war with Napoleon. Then this changed when some officers, who habitually spoke French among themselves, were shot by their own soldiers. After the victory over Napoleon, French became less popular, and German became increasingly popular, as many Germans moved to Russia in the 19th century.
You don't see a single automobile on the streets of Moscow in this film footage. By 1908, you'd see plenty in the major Western European cities and of course in the US. So either, automobiles hadn't made it to Russia yet, at least in any quantity they'd be seen on a major city street; OR the Russians did have them, but chose not to drive them in the Russian winter conditions we see here because they were still too difficult to drive on snowy streets? That didn't seem to be a problem nine years later during the Russian Revolution when you'd see even trucks traveling on snow-covered roads.
At that time, there were already quite a lot of cars in Russia. But in winter, this was still a problem, since the problem of regularly clearing the streets of snow had not yet been fully solved. In summer videos, you would see a lot of cars.
All you have is levels of grey color from film tape - it used as lightness level later. You don't know what color it was, you can assume it and use historical info (text, pictures etc) or references (photos after restoration of near same objects) . As example, from historical info its known that Kremlin was build with red bricks. With that color info and lightness level you can try to predict color tone. The better the film tape is preserved and more historical information collected - the higher quality restoration can be performed.
You can clearly see the level of industrialization in these countries from these early footages , U.S >>> Germany > U.K, France and other western Europe countries >> Russia > Japan > China, India etc.
typical russian, always complaining, you should be grateful for the effort put into making this video. create your version with bell chimes, were is it ?
3:42 this is not Moscow - perhaps france? just seeing store signs in latin does not make sense - perhaps coiffeur on the left and the one top right which i can not make out besides loughart?
Yes it's Moscow. In 1908, France and Russia were in an alliance, 1891-1917, many Russians even spoke French, from the middle and upper class.
The tsar-dictatory. Just starving, genocide, pogroms, gulag, despotism, oppression, illiteracy. But it changed to the better with the foundation of the sovietunion in 1922.
Yes it's Moscow and the signs are in French, The French-Russian alliance Франко-Русский Альянс started in 1891 until 1917 when Lenin destroyed everything. And Russians from middle and upper class spoke French and were international traders.
You should rather learn how to dodge a drone then writing shit on internet you insignificant polonized retard. Crawl back to the ruins of your useless backward 3rd world shithole, occupied by your artificial soviet created "borderlander" nation while you can.
