This video Sifu Leo is going to Moscow to learn Systema. At the same time he will use Wing Chun skill to have a sparring with the Systema instructors.
Introduction of Systema (西斯特瑪的介紹)
Systema is a very practical and unique form of self-defense and covers all elements of combats, including punching, kicking, throws, locks, pressure points, groundwork and weapons. The body has to be free of tension filled with endurance, flexibility, effortless movement and explosive potential. Systema is used by Russian military and special forces.
Leo Au Yeung is a recognized martial arts master who practices Wing Chun and Hung Gar styles. He is the only appointed Wing Chun instructor who coordinated with Sammo Hung in the Ip Man movie. Master Au Yeung coached the action crew and actors in Wing Chun and advised on action scene choreography.
Master Au Yeung is also an instructor for the general public and has a martial arts school in London, where he teaches traditional Chinese kung fu. Styles taught are diverse and include Wing Chun, Tai Chi, Hung Gar and Chinese kick-boxing.

I think the best part of this is seeing how respectful and genuine both martial artists are in the final sparring section of the video. Nobody's trying to show up anybody else, there's no ego, they're just sparring with real restraint and respect. Bravo, Sifu Leo Au Yeung!

+KamratJohan I've seen many videos that "glorify their own ways" but not even one that bashes how others do things". I don't blame people who glorify theiir own ways because that's their area of expertise. If a martial art practitioner bashes how others do things, he should not be practising one of the most respected arts in the world because martial art is not only about fighting, it's about discipline, restraint, and humblenss.

Grabaka Sennin Kung Fu means to master something over a long period of time and a great deal of practice. If you're referring to a martial art could you be more specific? If any martial art requires you to hold religious beliefs I'd advise steering clear of it.
@grabakasennin2763
@grabakasennin2763 7 лет назад
Josh Pickles There's a problem within most martial arts that has students that are laymen, that trains for health benefits, casually. There's a cult-mentality at work. I've been trough many traditional martial arts, and this hysteria is almost always present. Not all clubs tho. You seem to have the right idea. I broke with traditional martial arts because you won't have to deal with politics. You can also tailor your own style, like the creators of old styles did to begin with. :)
@joshpickles9022
@joshpickles9022 7 лет назад
Grabaka Sennin I also had this experience with tai chi. I later found a teacher who doesn't focus on chi or energy. Things are better now with my new teacher. Internal arts look like magic but are in truth just clever physics. It's a big attraction for easily lead people looking to fill a gap in themselves so you're right about arts that require some form of blind faith.

no one says you should totally use it the way they teach you to use it, and no one restricts you to learning a single art. what is art anyway? hearing bullshit from others or should you be filtering out the useless and save only the useful from multiple arts in your way? because really what the masters do is expressing their own understanding other than what you think, how much you will find in their teaching is up to you. Of course if you are teacher you'd know the situation, otherwise stick to your subjective understanding and keep the complains to yourself

I've been studying eagle claw kung fu for the last 18 years but I have also learned from ninjitsu, aikido, wing chun, Tai chi and really always looking for professional practicionars of any style martial arts because just like sifu Leo said "there is always something to learn from every martial arts" and anyone who can't accept that likely isn't very good at martial arts. Also I find the more I practice and exchange pointers with martial artists of other systems the more I understand my own system and how to apply it in the best way.

I have never understood why there are so many people who get on youtube and attack and mock these sorts of systems of combat. Fundamentally it seems not only plausible, but probable that the techniques used here would be practical for a fighting situation. As with any form of martial art, the truth of a martial arts effectiveness in a combat situation comes from mastery of that art, and this requires relentless practice. As Bruce Lee once said "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times." I once had the impression that karate was a useless martial art, but then i had the privilege to see a master at work practicing it and that changed my view. Only a fool refuses to understand and yet has an opinion on everything. Thank you for your video Leo.

Because people come from different disciplines. There are bad techniques in various martial arts that while good for exercise or show, are not effective in an actual fight. If you notice, in a real fight people do not use carefully choreographed moves, but rather very coarse and messy movements because the goal is to react without making yourself vulnerable. Doesn't matter how long you practice, no one uses fancy stuff when their life is on the line unless the opponent is completely caught off guard or inebriated.

@Logan Sensō no tenshi Afraid so. I used to train Wing Chun and years later, I can see what a waste of time it is. This is why no one wins MMA fights or real fights using Wing Chun or any of these 'just stand there while I wrist lock you' martial arts. People don't like the reality. I mean, I get it, but they really need to drop _their_ egos and admit that they might be wrong.

+KAR WING Lai I've learned a bit of Karate, got blue belt in Tae Kwon Do and a year of training in Choi Lee Fat (蔡李佛). My brother practiced some Wing Chun and I once free fought with him and beat him with, guess what, Wing Chun because picking up Wing Chun's moves is quite easy, refining the techniques, of course, is hard in every kind of martial art. This is so spirit-lifting that Sifu Leo Au Yeung (歐楊師傅) tries to learn different forms of combat from different areas because that was how Bruce Lee survived the challenges from all directions - street fighting where there is no form, just substance; Wing Chun for close-up punches and kicks; side-kick for medium range attacks; and, most of all, endurance for surviving continuous and multiple blows from a stronger opponent. A wiseman in martial art once said, "Martial Art is all about being the one who can still stand up at the end of a fight!" Therefore, any martial art lesson should include a session of free fight and students should not be limited to what they just learned in class, they should be able to use any form, any areas (門派) of martial art, and should be fought with rappling gloves (like those used by MMA fighters) to mock a real fighting situation. Anyway, thanks for the upload, 多謝晒歐陽師傅!

fluidity of movement is a great indication of mastery in technique much more so than explosive power. That's why body building is counter productive in learning highly mobile and adaptive movements and bad for progressing to expert martial art level. Of course it's beneficial for basic street brawling until your opponent isn't a beginner and then it's a liability and a dead end for progressing.

Maneuvering on the ground is just as important as footwork while standing. keep in the the low acrobatics turn you into a smaller, albeit still very capable and fast moving target (with the correct training) and Systema IS a military fighting style, which incorporates firearms as well as martial techniques. It may look silly, but in the event of its actual use, this guy would be incredibly fast to get up and around, even in open terrain.

+thoyo I wonder how much experience they need to _see_ where the opponent is applying pressure/force from and what direction.
@andresalemany4572
@andresalemany4572 8 лет назад
+Eiad I no longer practice wing chung ,all I can tell you is that they don't try to see anything or you don't have to learn something and have it in your brain and then apply it ,wing chung has special exercises created to develop your senses of feeling in other words when your body feels a preassure or a force it reacts by itself ,so you have to train your body to react not to learn or apply new techniques ,of course you learn stuff but all of it its just a reaction ,I'm not saying that other martial arts have the same or that wing chung is better I'm saying it depends on you and what you like :)
@lightfreak999
@lightfreak999 8 лет назад
Andres Alemany I see. So, it is more of an intuitive fighting style, which is dominated by the correct reactions? As opposed to analyzing which technique to use for each move.
@andresalemany4572
@andresalemany4572 8 лет назад
+Eiad Exactly there are exercises you can do with a partner both applying pressure so the body flows with it and when you are in a fight instead of thinking what to do you just react ex your hands feel the contact with a punch and they will know if you need to contra attack or flow with it and attack at the same time
@thoyo
@thoyo 8 лет назад
+Eiad yes. Systema Ryabko is very similar in that regard. we do a lot of sensitivity training. learning how to correctly feel for the opponent's structure in order to break it and take them down.

Russian is my native language. Trainer Ivan teaches Vedvoy martial art and trainer Evgeniy teaches Radabor martial art. I guess there is no Systema. In this video they just used the word "система" which just means "system" in Russian but they didn't talk about the real martial art with the name Systema. But I'm actually not professional in Russian martial arts. Although maybe I'm wrong and Vedvoy and Radabor are the variations of Systema.

"Systema" is like saying "Kung Fu" - a huge umbrella for martial arts of many kinds. Like Kung Fu, a Systema master will be able to do both Ivan and Evgyeny's styles
@mikeeru

@@SantomPh "systema" literally means "system". In the given context, it is like a weapon system, or a martial arts system. You can easily replace that word with "style" or "discipline". Not sure why "systema" word became a brand name in English speaking world. Most probably, it was derived from Kadochnikov's system (система Кадочникова).

Bob Jones having done taiji, jujutsu, judo, and systema I would say systema. Of course I am not familiar with his particular school, but one of the common games I see across schools involves a sort of all in non jacketed grappling from feet to ground (that includes standing, small, and leg joint manipulation), and the lessons he was giving likely came from that experience. Not that there isn't any crossover with the two you mentioned, but if you look at his mentality in fighting, he didn't much care if he was up or down, which is unlike both disciplines, but very systema.
@TheTypenator

That reversal at about 11:50 is an application of ground acrobatics.
@LeriObba
@LeriObba 9 лет назад
I have never tried systema, but I practice primarily Wudang Kung Fu styles including Tai Chi or the Yang, Chen, Wu, and Sun varieties and this is primarily Tai Chi applications with a Judo flavor. I'm not sure if systema is a very old art but if it isn't I can tell you what it's based on....
@TheTypenator
@TheTypenator 9 лет назад
Bob Jones It may interest you to know that I've heard the exact same claim from aikido masters, ba gua teachers, and silat exponents. I have also seen crossover with western fencing, boxing, wrestling, and yoga. However while many of the attributes that systema targets are to be found in many other disciplines, the pedagogy is very different. There is no long form to learn, there is no push hands, no stance training, there is no gi, no chi kung, no uchi komi, no formal corpus of techniques etc.Muddying up the issue further was the soviet penchant for rewriting history and a complete disregard for lineage or even the notion of copyright law. I would say modern systema is a synthesis of native soviet wrestling and striking traditions (like wall fighting) synthesized and augmented with sports science, firearms training, prison fighting knowledge. and any other relevant disciplines and data Stalins people could dig up from foreign countries, combined with what modern participants bring to the table because it is open ended. Add in intricate knowledge of firearms. But this is my opinion. Here is an article discussing some of this, although I don't think they have all the facts... For example there is some evidence that western sword fighting through family traditions are also part of systemas foundation. But, it has some relevant info ensomartialarts.com/sambo/

this is how it should be. my opinion: martial arts/ fighting systems are tools to be used/hobbys to be enjoyed. a screwdriver doesnt insult a hammer, so different martial arts shouldn't slander others, they all aim for the same, goal, to protect its user, some more violently than others. A good workman is experienced in/ carrys as many tools as he can, and doesnt use broken ones or useless ones, then again, every man to his own.

+NelsonVasquez777 Three nigga's? Smh.. Your response is so primitive I really don't know where to start with you. I asked you a single question which was a question about skill measurement and you respond like a weak emotional female. Oh I supposed to take not question and just believe in some fool like you who is a text warrior. I have already demonstrated my martial arts skill, and I took a kid who was very un-athletic with a low I.Q put trained him a bit over a year and he won a tournament in sparring, placed second in weapons and third in open hand forms. Then as an experiment I wanted to see how he would do against karate black belts and in 2 fights he won his first with a power side kick I just taught him in 1 week and had a trained black belt crying like a female and he lost his second fight because he couldn't accept what he could do and deviated from how I trained him. What I respect about Bruce Lee was his desire to liberate himself from Classical martial arts. But what I'm against is this B.S attempt to put him as some dang guru. This is why Lee closed down all his Gung-Fu schools because idiots like you and others look at him as some supernatural god. Some people in the orient worship him as a god to this day. If you respect Bruce Lee attempt to respect others views, learn from others, stop worshipping individuals, rather learn the knowledge from all people. This is what Bruce meant by absorb what is useful, reject what is useless and add what is distinctly your own. I know much more about Bruce than you and he gave lessons and he received lessons as well. This is why he respect other forms of combat because he had too. If you could be more respectful I could share with you those who schooled Lee and also those who Bruce copied and admired and added some of their knowledge to his martial arts concept. It wasn't a system by the way. My point is stop this fan-Fanatic B.S and rather discuss the knowledge he was sharing with the world. If you respond back to me in a disrespectful way then I wont respond back.

Hi Junior, I think you missed the point of the video here. He was there to learn from another style and not to do a huge demonstration of Wing Chun. Nowhere in this video is it made clear that Leo has no knowledge of the things you stated. Furthermore, I'm a little disappointed that, after so many people saw the benefits of this kind of humble, gracious, and open exchange of knowledge (as gleaned from reading the other comments) that you would to display an attitude similar to the mentality of "my style of martial arts can beat up your style" that I see all too often in the comments section of so many martial arts videos on RU-vid. Asking questions is great. Flag waving is not.

As we all know, any technique that requires your assailant to freeze in position while you maneuver around to get yourself into the effective spot to defeat them is the best kind of technique. All this video proved was that is someone with a mediocre understanding of basic grappling techniques is able to take down a wing Chun proficient person
