I have a 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser from 1905 and I oil it and clean it every time I shoot it and it works like a brand new gun so if that gun was taken care of it would work better

Russians definitely know what they're doing when it comes to making great rifles that stand the test of time. The Mosin Nagant and the AK-47 have been in just about every battle of every war since they were created. Sticky bolts are very common on Mosins, but they're also very easy fixes. I had a 1933 M-91 (they were first issued in 1930) Soviet version and it was extremely accurate at ranges up to 600 yards, even with the iron sights. ALL Mosins are extremely reliable (like the AK-47), but the Finnish versions were the most accurate of all the Mosins. They're still being used in battles to this day. As always, great video. Great video Kendall. The mosin does actually have a safety on it. It is located on the rear of the bolt (The circle on the bolt) and you need to pull the circle back and twist it to engage the safety and to disengage, you do that in the opposite direction

Btw there is a safty it is located on the bolt

if you take a 20 ga wire bore brush on a drill put some oil on it and use it to clean the chamber and that should help with the bolt getting stuck

It could be your ammo that has to much pressure. There was a anti aircraft gun chambered in 7.62x54r and the mosin will chamber it but the pressure is way too much for it

The reason your bolt is sticking is cause your shooting rounds that are to hot and it locks up the bolt

Grease the shells before loading it helps I have a mosin and it did the same thing even being cleaned then I greased the shells and it made a world of difference

The sticky bolt in my m39 mosin nagant was caused by the firingpin spring. I switched it with one i got from midway usa and it imidiately solved my sticky bolt problem.

7.62x54R where the "R" means "rimmed". The .30-30 Winchester is called the 7.62X51R in other places where the .308 Win is called 7.62X51 without an R since it's not rimmed.

Just a little history on that rifle... It was a standard Soviet issue rifle... A Russian soldier (Sniper) by the name...Vasily Zaitsev...used it in WWII ...and had over 400 confirmed kills... But...legend has it that there could have been a lot more kills not confirmed... Vasily Zaitsev...was credited with coining the phrase...."Sniping"... and he received the Highest Medal... I have a mosin nagant from 1943 and the bolt is super smooth. I would say it is smoother than a lot of bolt actions around nowadays

Kendall, you better make sure your boy takes that Nagant to a gunsmith and have the headspace checked out on that rifle. i had one that did the same thing and the headspace was not set right. It can be extremely dangerous if it is too far out.

The bayonet can also disassemble the whole gun. The 91/30 has a detachable bayo that can disassemble the whole gun as the tip is a screwdriver..

i own a izvehk russian made 1940 91/30 standard,stocks been painted black and bolts been changed to a bent bolt tho, got it 3-4 years ago for $150 with 40 rounds of ammo and all matching serial numbers and a bayonet, insane deal id say. and yes the bolt sticking shut, is very common for them, i think its just cause russians are so strong they dont notice the issue

My mosin is the Russian 1938 had the bolt lock up like that a couple times but I guess its cuz of the cheap ammo and probably needed cleaning love it tho tough gun

Mosin Nagants have a floating bolt, they are usually pretty reliable, they are known for sticky bolts but they shouldn’t be that bad, you should put some rem-oil on that bolt, if that doesn’t work, I would say there might be something wrong the bolt head, maybe somethings bent
