In this video, we will perform a quick field strip and cleaning of the Mossberg 590 Shockwave.

@@TheGunLove I've had my 590 since 2008 and it sits by the door. Light cleaning just one time when new. Thought I should clean the thing the right way. I watched 6 videos today and yours is the winner. 2nd best chopped and cut once too often. You didn't.

one small tip for everyone: the trigger housing has notches that fit into very small grooves on each side. (side opposite of trigger) Mine was very tight, wrestled with it for a while until i looked closer and noticed those grooves. Until it fits in those grooves you can't press the back of the housing all the way down.

I have a mossberg 500 and this was exactly the same. I’m glad I’m not the only one who wears gloves!! I spend too much time doing my nails to have solvent destroy them. ❤

Just a quick note for those with the 20ga version - the bolt looks different. It doesn’t have the spring as seen in the 12ga version. That threw me off at first. However, installation of the 20ga bolt is exactly the same as the 12ga version - groove goes in the same direction and the end of the firing pin points in the same direction - towards the chamber. Also, on a new 590, the trigger group doesn’t always pull away as easily as shown - I had to use some force to pull it away. Reinserting it was also a bit of a chore - make sure the tongue & groove align, then push the barrel-end down and in before pivoting the rest of the trigger guard towards the handle. It will pop back in with a little muscle, but don’t force it if you don’t have everything aligned! Thanks for a great video!!

I just saved this to my favorites. This was the best disassembly/cleaning/reassembly video I've found. Just bought a mossberg 590s about 2 months ago. Haven't cleaned it yet but when i do im following your video. I put about 45 shells thru it at the range so far. How often do you clean your gun by the way? Just curious to know, im a new gun owner. 🙂

@ahwayzcool Thank you so much for your kind comment! I am so glad that I’m able to assist! Mossberg says that you should clean your firearm as soon as possible after each time you shoot. They also say that in order to maintain optimal long term performance of your gun, that you should ensure that you clean it throughly after every 200 rounds. “Ideally”, in regards to all firearms, you should clean them (even if it’s just running a bore snake through it) after you shoot them each time for the record. Congratulations on your new Mossberg and welcome to the pew pew world! Thank you so much for watching and saving this video. i had such an issue getting the trigger group back in >< but rewatchrd a few times and then realized i hadnt fully clicked in the cartridge interrupter and stop >< THEN it was easy as pie. Wanted to fully disassemble and clean it before taking it to the Range to put my very first shells through it. Thank you so much for the video.

I just got mines last Friday I got the mossberg 590 12 gage shot gun pump actin with ghost sight I didn’t know it can damage the trigger housing thank you for the heads up. Keep up the good work
