I just bought a 590a1 today. My first gun, ever. Immediately when I got it home I took it apart, looked at all the pieces spread out on my table, and started to panic because I had no goddamn clue how to put it back together. This video saved me. I just hope I did it right, otherwise it's going to blow up in my face when I take it to the range tomorrow.
7 years late but oh my god thank you for this video people dont know how to make a detailed video like you ive been watching vids on this gun for 3h and just now got it back together after cleaning it thanks to you literally just being thorough with your instructions basically i couldnt get the action bars to go back in place for 3h going back and looking at videos because none of them simply explained the little lug on the end of the flat piece underneath them was supposed to fit in the bolt. now i got it back together and working great after your video thank you soooo much. 3 HOURS!!!!😭😭😭
Nice video Dude!! It's been a while since I've done a total Field Strip of my 590A1 so I just wanted to freshen up my memory and you video did it for me. Thanks for taking the time to film, edit and upload this video. May I offer a tip that works for me regarding the Shell Stop and Shell Interrupter? As these 2 items quite often cause frustration with people, as they fall out with the slightest movement of the shotgun, what I do is I add a dab of grease behind each one of them and the grease acts like a "paste" and it helps to hold both of these pieces to their locations inside the Receiver. It helps me, so I wanted to add that in for other folks whose patience maybe wearing thin when these pieces keep falling out of their tracks in the Receiver. Ok, that's all. Thanks Again!!!
Old video but it sure saved my skin. I was able to figure out how to take the thing apart when I was changing the fore end stock but putting it back together was frustrating me to no end but your video helped me a ton, though I still have to fight the action bars, they kept getting in the way of getting the trigger unit in. Thank you much for making this video.
I was having a heck of a time getting mine back together for the first time. Your video is gold! You explained and demonstrated everything perfectly. Thank you!
Thanks for the video. It was the first one I watched after purchasing. The only bit I would add (and it's not on ANY of the maintenance videos) is showing how the bolt tray fits into the bolt mechanism after they are removed. Remember, this is something you cannot directly see (once the tray is out, there are a couple places the tray latch could go). Otherwise, I'm glad this was the first demo seen - very valuable!
Thanks for this. Just broke down and cleaned a new to me lightly used 590a1 I found at a local shop. $495. Serial number shows it was made in 2015-16 range. 20 inch 8+1. Maybe could have got them down some in price or found cheaper somewhere else, but felt it was fair given the market and they are good people. Your video helped a ton.
Thanks for the video. The reassembly is definitely a "trust in the process" sort of deal. Everything feels loose. Some things are done by feel, some things feel a little loose until you snap in the trigger. This definitely helped. My shotgun was running real bad, jamming up and the safety wasnt really working. Its smooth as butter now
EXCELLENT!!! What a great Step by Step instruction to field strip and assemble a 590A1!!! PERFECT!!! Thank you for taking the time to do this video!! :)
Great video. It might be helpful to explain that once you reinstall the slide bolt, you have to slide everything forward "together" before reinstalling the action bars. I didn't do this during my reassemble and the slide started to catch. It wasn't until I watched the video again that I realized you were doing it on the video. This video jumps (5:38-5:40) and you don't see the full cycle. Got it all worked out though! Terrific video and I love this firearm!
Wow, thanks for the video. I've always owned an 870 and I am very familiar with them. I recently purchased a 590a1 and really like it but as with all my guns, I clean them prior to shooting and afterwards. One thing I quickly discovered is that the 590 DOES NOT disassemble like an 870, to the point of being very frustrating (trigger assembly must be removed before the "guts" can come out) . Your video was very, very helpful. Thanks.
great job on break down of the mossberg590a1. I have a mossberg 500 I purchased in1979 I think. I was about 17 or 18.i think ..,forearm & butt stock its all wood . with heat shield. I nver really broke it down this video helped.
They are called shell stopper and shell interrupter. The shell stopper is on the left side of the receiver and it keeps the next shell from popping out. The shell interrupter, on the right side, keeps the second shell from popping out when the shell stopper is deactivated by the action slide bar on the left. The shell interrupter is manipulated by the bolt slide as is the elevator.
Great video Nolan. I couldn't sort it out based on the Brownells video, yours does a much better job explaining especially about how the bolt assembly needs to be lined up with the action. Thank you.
I just bought the 590A1 Retrograde and took it apart to clean it. I came to watch this video because I couldn’t get the trigger group to fit back into the gun. This was a great video however it didn’t help with my issue. Ended up having to hold those 2 bars to the sides with a lot of pressure and the trigger group finally slipped in. After being an 870 man for 30 years, I must say this thing is a PITA to tear down compared to my 870. This 590A1 is definitely growing on me though. I don’t know that it will replace the 870 as my favorite gun but I definitely don’t regret getting raped for it.
Nolan, I want to thank you for the video on this gun. I owned a 16g sawed off handmade pistol grip. (Beautiful Gun) My Grandfather modified, and gave it to me. I had to use it in a home invasion/assault self- defense. Det/pd took it, and said it would be melted down. I never came across another shotgun worthy of my attention until the M590A1. I have done a ton of research 0n the gun WoW I will own this gun !! I never thought of a pump action till this one. Thank you again, and I look forward to more videos. I would love to see more info on the Truglo on the 590. Lori
excellent vid and nice visuals, whenever I get a new firearm the first step is always learn the takedown, cleaning & lube, and reassembly of your firearm. (read your firearm manual too!)
Thank you partner! Great video! My grey magpul forend is slightly tight when pumping cuz it hits the heat shield on my 590 persuader. I’m waiting on the Allen key set to take it off. Don’t have that one key anywhere in my house lol. Cheers
I'd Never broken one down before and I watched your video when I took my 500 down for cleaning. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get the bolt carrier piece back in there all the way after an hour of struggling with it I thought maybe the elevator isn't down far enough so I pushed it down and the carrier dropped into place and then I finished reassembly.
TY my scatteer likes you b/c I made few mistakes for the stripping of this weapon. ALso the magpul stock on mine I have to loosen it and then the trigger group can be pulled
Who makes that brightly colored follower? I wanted a bright one as an obvious visual signal that the tube was empty, but I couldn't find a decent one that was really overt, so I settled for a blue one from NDZ performance.
590 mariner stainless castle nut will NOT come loose. Any suggestions? Destroyed the plastic Magpul wrench right off the bat. I put a small piece of angle in a vise still nothing. It's twisting the whole forend. Just trying to put a Magpul foregrip on. This gun is from the early 90's. Good vid by the way thanks!
I just purchased the Mossberg 590a1 Retrograde. It has the 20” thicker walled barrel with heat shield and Walnut furniture. Is there anything I should be precautious about with this variant? Also, thanks for the video! It was easy to learn from it.
590A1 on this end. well done. however, i had buffer from a shell leak into the magazine causing some stiction issues (failure to feed) where the follower did not reseat and i had to butt-bump the weapon to get the remaining shells to fall out of the magazine. some 40rounds later, the problem self corrected. still want to clean it. GUIDANCE please: complete take-down of magazine (spring and follower) ? "Dave Biddle" (reply at the bottom of comments (1yr)) noted his just "unscrews". possible ? thanx, -stev
What is your action slide 6 3/4 or 7 3/4 ?Seems the barrel is 18,5 inches right?Ask this because want to change my flex forend with Magpul but not sure what action slide to buy? Thank you
