What ants do you have there? That area looks perfect for Formica, and many other Canadian species, very jealous ;)

The only ones I see so far are red ants (fire ants?) They stink. As soon as I dig and reveal them, I can smell them instantly. They bite and it burns. Them and big fat black dudes, I think they are carpenter ants. They are the reason these gardens are so far from the house. I am very careful how much wood we have near the house. Although the house itself is board and batton.

A lot of trees are just axolotl level in regenerative capacity, what with grafting and everthing
