There are so many great games slated for this year! Which ones have piqued your interest? Which are you most excited to see on the channel? And these 20 aren't everything I'm excited for... if you want to see more Strategy Games, check this other video out from the other day - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dLRYSopjaDQ.html Enjoy!
I've been wanting to make a game version of a fantasy world I'm writing... Sims works a tiny bit for it, but not the way I need it to. I want to be able to actually build my own city, and ideally I'd like it to be decent graphics so I can really customize the buildings and get an idea visually for how I might want to lay out streets, etc. I'm trying to avoid a came that's super pixelated/small because that won't really give me the breadth I need. I also was trying to get something that's not super specific (like Egyptian or Soviet Union)--medieval times might work, as long as it lets you build actual buildings or monuments or walls or whatnot. I tend to like these types of games less for the actual gameplay and more for the building (I do the same in Sims). At a glance, Ostriv seemed like maaaaybe it could function the way I'm hoping to find? Or maybe The Settlers? Foundation sounded like it would've been good but with such limited options for what you can lay out yourself wouldn't work; I want to be able to do streets too. On the other hand, it not being grid-based would have been nice. What do you think based on what you've seen? Is there a game in existence now or the future that might actually work based on what I've mentioned? I don't know if it exists or ever will, just figured I'd ask. When I tried looking for something a year or so ago, I didn't see anything that seemed like it would be right. Side note, Evil Genius 2 looks funny/fun lol Your comment "World domination is one of my favorite ways to kill time" made me laugh out loud. Also, not for me, but Going Medieval and Starmancer both sound kind of cool - the sort of thing that may be fun to watch but I don't know if I'll end up playing them myself.
@@NecromayhemD it went Epic Game Store exclusive (for one year) and then went kinda quiet. I think dev is still progressing with launch planned this year but I'm not 100% sure!
huuuge work by you with all these summary kind of videos lately. This is the exact type of content I love to watch and your channel is hands down a must for every strategy/tactics game fan.
That Nebuchadnezzar game looks a lot like an updated version of Pharaoh, one of the first city builders I ever played and still among my favourites due to the complexity of day to day running and the building of huge monuments. Looking forward to that one!
@@LukeVilent There are quite a few good ones, but a proper remake of Pharaoh would be the best, but ONLY if we get to build the monuments again. Something amazingly satisfying about building pyramids....
@@Frithgar It seems they promise you can build a ziggutat, so yeah. Thing is, my spose studies Ancient Middle East, so I'm kinda hyped to see how historic the whole thing will be.
Would love to see a list like this but with games that released 2019! With short overview and review of each! With actual gameplay videos instead of trailers.
Starmancer and Space Haven give me a strong vibe of the ill-fated Spacebase DF-9. Hope those games turn out better. Nebuchadnezzar definitely caught my eye since to this day I sometimes boot up Zeus or Pharaoh :) Looks like this is going to be an interesting year.
I feel like ive watched every "anticipation city builder" video on youtube and i gotta say Mr Party Elite, I think you have it down. I love the presentation and your delivery on this video and others now that Ive checked them out. You've gained a new subscriber m8. Please keep us posted on changes with all these great games. 2020 is gonna be a great year for this genre.
Evil Genius 2 and Space Haven are my two most anticipated games of 2020 so far... I still can't believe we're finally getting Evil Genius 2 after so long!
Talk about synchronicity; I just finished listening to Phillip Glass, his *Akhnaten* - which is wonderful in its own right - and I have always been a fan of Egyptian History. The music is incredible and I use that to my advantage when playing my favorite Egypt-Themed games.
You're articulate, succinct, descriptive, and really thorough in your analyses of these games. I'm excited listening to them, you're doing a great job. Subbed.
100K in the next couple of days! Well deserved. I'd love to see a city builder from CA using the TW: Three Kingdoms engine. Not that visual style trumps gameplay, but I've kind of hit my fatigue limit on the Fortnite, Pixel, and Voxel art styles of so many games (though it makes perfect tonal sense in a game like Evil Genius 2). So, I'm most keen on seeing those games from the list that lean to the more realistic side of the spectrum. As with the strategy list, lots to look forward to in 2020!
Really surprised to not see Surviving the Aftermath. Since October there has been 3 updates and the feedback the community give, the devs listen to which is refreshing. In early access, there are very little bugs. I've seen a few on here that have peaked my interest. Can't wait for more info
With 556 hours played I have thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. As someone who never played any RTS games I can safely say my foray into the field has been great. This game is so frustrating yet so rewarding at the same time, you can try the commands at cheatland for it. I have convinced other friends to join in on the fun and that makes it even better!
Hotel management definitely sounds interesting! Can't wait to see it and even play it. Question though, would you consider playing some ”older” games as well? Especially the building types? I would really like to see how you would play Frost Punk. Although the campaign is quite short, it is still a fun game. 😀
I'm excited for Airborne Kingdom because it looks like it would be kinda fun to get children interested in the mathematical background of flight...if it goes that far, anyway. I'm also excited for Before We Leave. It looks nice, doesn't look too restrictive. Sometimes you just want to make a universe without threat of wars and invasions lol Foundation looks like a game people may play just for the creative aspect of building.
I’m so excited about you playing some of these games. The hotel game I would even love to get myself. I love management games, can’t wait for you to play it! Also since I am newer to the channel and found you when you first started planet zoo, I was wondering if you would ever play sims 4? I’m not entirely sure if this would even be your style and if not that’s completely fine. But a game I would love to see you play is project high rise if you’re interested. I like your style and definitely can’t wait to see you play more games.
Project High Rise and Sims 4 are games I definitely missed the boat on! I might check them out on the channel during a slow season or something! And yeah that hotel game looks fantastic!
This was a great, in-depth list! I really appreciate the enthusiasm for a genre I love, but doesn't seem to get the attention I feel it deserves. I'm new to your channel, but I hope to see more from you in the future!
I think I'm most excited for Evil Genius 2, Hotel Magnate, Good Company, KSP2, and probably The Settlers if it turns out well, especially if it has fun co-op.
I just found you to day (and subscribed!) and thanks to your two videos (strategy and this one), I have added about 20 more titles to my wishlist that I didn't know about. Thanks!
Awesome list EG, and the games you've included really covered some great titles I'm looking forward to that other list have missed. Didn't know about 1 or 2 of the first few till you introduced them. Loved the way you described and introduced each one as well. Subscribed.
Thanks for compiling these lists. I'm coming from playing more RTS style war games but as I've gotten older I've been looking more and more for a relaxing city builder. I'll definitely check these all out. I like the sound of Foundation in particular as being "organic". I want some control but personally I don't want to have to micromanage every building decision. I want some control (especially to destroy something if it develops incorrectly) but I don't mind the AI trying to build something randomly and organically like most pre-industrial cities came into being.
@@QpertsChannel These other companies need to stop trying to make their own DRM apps, steam has been out too long everyone already has it. No one likes having to use multiple apps for their games if they don't have it.
people hatin on epic so much while I keep gettin free games off it, hell they gave away darksiders 1 and 2 the other day. people are weird af at what they hate on
Its so funny because I read this before seeing the game in question... and then this one came up and I was oh this looks sick, wait... this must be it. And oh look, it was xD.
18:20 "world domination is one of my favorite ways to kill time" would be a scary sentence if taken out of the context of gaming. haha.. Great video. Thanks for the recommendations.
Interesting list though I'm a little disappointed. For the longest time I've had a craving for something like Banished (but with at least light combat elements) or Settlers that's set in a fantasy universe. Just that little added flavor of not always rolling as humans but maybe you want to make a town of dwarfs, maybe they have some kobold rivals you could play as too? Or just make it a multicultural thing where everyone's living together but if you want a good carpenter you want an elf. Maybe Lizardmen are better at growing rice (or gathering resources from water/swamps) because of their amphibious nature. I know this comment is a bit long but man I just want a fantasy city builder.
That's a pretty good idea, you could have all sorts of strange changes. Like, maybe you'd have a species of tree people that spawn from gardens and need upkeep in wood, or golems that need to be created from clay and mage blood or something. Don't worry about the comment length, I know I've written much longer ones.:)
Nice video dude. There is a certain city builder that I actually haven't seen mentioned in any videos like this. But I'm not surprised since I happened to get it as a recommended game on steam not to long ago. So I thought I'd just throw it out here. If you're someone who likes post nuclear apocalypse type games, there's actually one of those coming out in early access in spring of this year on steam. It's a survival/city builder type game. So if you enjoyed games like frostpunk or dawn of man or surviving mars, it's along the same vein. From what's been showcased so far, it actually looks like it's shaping up to be a good game. And the devs say there's quite a lot content wise for an early access title with more planned during development and after full release. It's very similar to paradoxes game surviving the after math. Though I'm more inclined to play this steam title as I know paradox games usually launch incomplete so they can sell you features that should have been in the vanilla version as dlc. And this game doesn't seem it's intending to go that route. The game is called Endzone: a world apart. I'd recommend if you're into that type of game to go take a look.
Hotel Magnate is the one that really has my interest... can't wait to be able to create motels and hotels.... hopefully a release date soon... looks very promising.
Crazy, last night I tried playing the original Caeser on an amiga emu. It gave me nostalgia for the (somewhat) more recent Pharoah and children of the nile. Absolutely adored those games. Then today this video pops up and it seems every other game mentioned is an ancient Egypt sim...! 😁😁😁
My dream game. Fantasy(elder scrolls or witcher) city builder. Building a town gathering resources and income from taxes, brothels and inns. Protecting your villagers/lifestock from threats like wildlife, monsters, wandering vampire/werewolfs, bandits, thieves, killers, wars, spys, cults, witches.
Great video, thanks. I found myself several times to be clicking back through the video trying to figure out which game it was you showed and talked about. Please consider to add the name of the game again at the end of the mini pre-view, or keep it shown in a corner of the screen please. Was quite frustrating several times :-) I found several games in your list which are now on my wishlist, so thanks for your input! Ancient Cities, Nebuchadnezzer, Soviet Republic and of course Settlers, but also Evil Genius II, Humankind, Going Medieval all made it to my list.
Dude, Minecraft has swept the floor with all the Builders! 30 million blocks in every direction from spawn, nearly 900 hours to walk from center to the border! Three dimensions, boss fights, bad and good mobs, trading, free updates, active staff, ETC. Mojang has updated the game every year with many elements that take Building to the next level. I have been playing in a world for 4000 hours and have 35 villages connected by overworld rail, Nether transit, End transit, Afk farms, too much to list, MC is the biggest and best of all times. 2021- Caves and Cliffs Update!!
@partelite as your fairy god beard I must remind you that looking forward is only half of the spectrum. You should consider a throwback Thursday to look at the games of your childhood, that forged the foundation of these modern experiences. God beard out.
First time hearing about Nebuchadnezzar, got really excited for a second until you said it's going to be isometric. I know gameplay is more important, but I really want to see complex ancient civilization city builders in a more immersive graphic. Caesar 4 doesn't look good, and Imperium Romanum and Grand Ages Rome are too limited and simple. But with the release of the various Egyptian city builders, I'm feeling positive. The new Settlers and the hotel game look good too.
The video for Kerbal was interesting, but you missed a wonderful opportunity. At 33:16 you showed a ship ploughing into the space station. At 33:22 you said the words "unless something goes horribly wrong". Would have been funny for the impact to be on screen at the same moment as "horribly wrong". I may have to try that "Foundation" game; it looks interesting.
What I thought, too. To be honest, that one interests me more than most of the games presented, but Evil Genius, Kerbal and, to a lesser extent, Soviet Republic are definitely ones I'll keep an eye on.
I’d definitely wait until it’s out of early access if I were you. It has very poor late gameplay. Abysmal really. It is like they have tried so hard not to make it too easy, that it just becomes a chore to play once you have yourself established. The optimisation is also terrible. The lag is horrendous once you get a larger population (which is kind of the point of the game). I thought about exiting the game and going back in to see if that would help but sadly it told me that the game couldn’t be saved, to file a bug report and restart a new game. Haha, NO. Not long after that I had to end task because it was completely frozen. At the moment, I don’t think it is worth paying for but it does have potential.
@@thegoatkibble Um... That's why it's called "paying for beta testing".. woops, sorry, "early access". did you expect it to be a polished game in alpha/beta stage?
Large McBigHuge No, I didn’t expect it to be perfect but there are already enough of us chumps paying to test it so why not let others know my experience and recommendation so they can make an informed decision? It’s not like Epic Store has a review section after all 😏
Question about Soviet Republic: Workers and Resources. Are gulags available to build in-game? Are secret police available as a research tech or unit? If your Soviet citizens are disloyal, can you plan a famine to kill a few million of them? It wouldn't be very realistic if these are not in-game options.
As a fan ofPharaoh (with probably 400hrs still have my OG CD) so seeing all the upcoming titles with it in mind makes me happy also the Medieval titles, (On a side note I like the way put time stamps but perhaps add links to their sites)
How to keep track of "Ancient Cities" ? Tried to "Wishlist" and "Follow" that title on Steam, but there's no entry for it. Also it would be great to have a short mention of the history of the developers being involved (number of titles released previously, team size, budget, total dev time etc) And what system specs should be expected to run the games. What distribution platforms and the OS / gaming systems they will release on. Payment model would be a plus but I can live without. Oh and most importantly, what they plan for updates, keep their game flowing past release, DLCs etc. -Also one of the most important aspects is probably replayability, which may be hard to see previous to the game release.- (you have that covered, sorry) Great wrap up otherwise /subbed
was looking forward to this video, now I always have one list of the games to look forward to, now I have two lists, the second list is game to avoid since it's on the EGS. as always great video, very informative and love how you let me know "as a viewer" about the exclusivity of such games. wish you all the best and happy new year. cheers
Not strictly a "city builder", but Humankind is the highest on my list. I always love the art, design and gameplay of Amplitude's releases and so I'm eager for more information.
I'm so excited for Humankind! I've actually got a separate list for strategy games and Humankind is in that instead. If you're interested in that and others, here's the link - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dLRYSopjaDQ.html
Settlers.... I've played settlers 2, 3, 4, 10th anniversary edition, all the way through to their latest ones (although the specifically listed 2-3-4 were the best). Really hope they don't screw it up.
