Happy New Year! What a cracking race, it looks just pure fun. I loved that you inspired that young runner to come and then he actually goes and wins it. Go team runners!
Happy new year to you too! Get a fair few messages from people saying I’ve inspired them to get into running but hearing it before the race certainly gave me a boost. That’s exactly why I make videos :)
Great achievement, Ben! I hope the runners win one year =D I thought the guy in the yellow top ahead of you was going to win! Congrats and happy new year!
Happy new year to you and your family Ben. This race is also fantastic to watch online too, the excitement and positivity from everyone comes through the lens. Here's to a cracking 2024, I look forward to following you and your content.
Well done Ben. Crazy I've been watching you all these years and I remember watching you in years past. What an honor for that young man to recognize you and want to meet you. You continue to inspire me and can't wait to see what you do in 2024.
Great vid as always Ben, you made the young lads day (runner 217) fantastic that your channel has reached a youngster and encouraged them to run a new race.... And then nagging their parents to take them! Great going. Great review on then insta360 too.... Amazing how small it was out then case!!
Reminds me of a trail race called 'Man v Horse' which has been running yearly for ages now. Not done it myself but other running club mates have and loved it.
This was definitely for me the most fun video to watch as a spectator from the phone screen you made so far. It looks like everything fell in place, weather results and beating the bikers 👌👏
Great Video as always 🤘. I did a similar race in Bingley. Cyclist v Harriers Fell race excellent fun! Well done on the win and thank you for the top content 👍
Congrats on the win. I look forward to these videos every year. I'd love to do a race like that! Niche question: is that a 70cm or 120cm selfie stick that you're holding at the end of the video?
Every year for the last few years I’ve watched your videos on this race and thought I’m doing that next year, next year rolls round completely forget about it until your video pops up again 😂 putting it in the calendar now haha
Don't need any east Africans to run this race. A good, strong cross country runner with sub 14 minutes 5000m time should be able to take on the Cyclists
Lol 😂😂 its was fun to watch .. u have like a summer there now!!! I visit my home village in ×-mas , we had -38C to -42C😂 try run in that weather and say its so cold today 😂
@@BenIsRunning no, I don't live there anymore, I was just there over Christmas to visit my mother, I've lived in Kenya for the last 20 years. so there was really a difference in temperature.
Great race. We did a Craig event last year. The Colchester 15. It looks like he has a pedigree in keeping old races alive. My dad was a runner in Colchester back in the 1940s and 50s. I'd love to know if he ever did this race.
Looks like a health and safety nightmare, or should I say as it's Christmas 'elf and safety'!? 😂. A pretty mad event! There used me a man v horse v bike event in Wales but it reverted to just man v horse as by-laws mean it's technically illegal to ride a bike on green roads so they dropped the bike elements.
That race looked absolutely brilliant! Was surprised to hear you say the runners won at the end of your video. Does that mean that the total sum of the runners' positions (6 to count?) was less than the sum of the cyclists' positions?
@@BenIsRunning Ok, that explains it. When you said the first three were cyclists I thought it very unlikely that the runners would win but a disqualified cyclist would surely help!
One of the top six riders was subsequently disqualified for not dismounting at the cross over point, which meant that the 6th runner to finish beat the 6th rider. The cup is awarded to the winning six.
I guess it’s allowed in the rules. It’s certainly allowed in all bike races and in cyclocross races which are run on exactly this kind of terrain it’s completely expected and normal to shoulder the bike and run with it on unrideable sections.
That race looks like so much fun, well done! 5 mins gap to the first rider in those sloppy conditions, runners clearly have no chance! Interesting pair of shoes in the background 👀
@@BenIsRunning funny you should mention that, because a sub 14 minutes 5000m runner whom is strong over cross country should be able to tackle the Cyclists
Throughout the 1990s up to 2001 the distance for this race was 5 miles. Now it is about 3.5 miles which would suit a strong cross country runner with sub 14 minutes 5000m time
@@robertmalseed7376 I don't think you have clocked the speed difference between a bike and a runner, especially with all the riders now on gravel bikes instead of mountain bikes. 2:30/km pace equates to 24km/hour. The top bikers can easily go 30-40km/hr + on some of those sections.
I couldn't find any information but technically, the runners won this year as one of the riders was disqualified. Anyone got insight on what was the breech?
I think I might spend the rest of my evening posting what I think will be the most triggering nonsense, to a bunch of people who take time to engage in RU-vid comments, so I can get one over on them and feel smug about it 😏
The event was won by a cyclist yes but the traditional cup is a competition between the top 6 runners and the top 6 cyclists in which this year the runners won :) hope that makes sense!
Hahaha if you honestly think your subs enjoy watching you clean the nights bacteria from your teeth then you are clearly missing something . We also get you drink coffee and you can stick a fancy heart on top - well bloody done you .
So trying to get others to cheat didn't work? Maybe the strategy for next year is not to solicit cheating, but run sub 14 minutes for the 5000m and get much more stronger at cross country
oh no Mr Happy is back, and why do cyclists get to dismount and carry bike, they should cycle all the way, tad unfair me thinks, oh and they have much higher tech bikes than years back, to equal things out , perhaps a penny farthing, but honestly, this was super fun to watch, lots of happy people having a great fun time,
@@jensmith3719 I am always happy and even more ecstatic that Ben's plans to cheat didn't pan out. They're the same bikes as they were back then, the only difference was that the distance was 5 miles and now its 3 5 miles. So a strong cross country runner with a sub 14 minutes 5000m should be able to challenge the Cyclists.
Ah the prodigal idiot returns. Couple points: 1) runners won, and Ben was instrumental in achieving this 2) no impeding by any runners and the only dq was to a rider 3) not a chance any runner, no matter how good, would actually beat the winning rider. Averaging 3mins/km in those conditions, on a bike is phenomenal. And the conditions were the worst, as claimed by many who had been attending for years. It was the runners' best chance. 4) and finally, you were fantastically and openly mocked by many on the day, shame you weren't there to witness Now, Ben inspired many on the day, including the young lad. Imagine that young lad saw what you had to say. You'd put anyone off the sport you're supposedly advocating.
