Actually the pear has no credible accounts of real use. It may have been a fruit juicer or just a shock prop as the first time it was written about was the 1700s and it was fake. Thank god.

In case anyone was wondering. Most "medieval torture devices" were made up during the Victorian era, to create museums, and ways to earn profit off of interesting and barbaric items. This is not saying torture did not occur, but it was not much different than torture we use today. The frequency of torture was also far rarer than many of these shorts would like to suggest.
