These others were not reformers, maybe they just got born again . There is no true church but that was those that were true followers and believers. At minute 35 he said that we are to obey the whole word of God. Does he mean that we should keep Sabbath? observe God’s holy feast days? In being reformed and reforming did Luther go far enough? Should he not have gone on separate from the pagan practices of Christmas and Easter. And why do we continue to have these practices in our churches?
@revelation1790
@revelation1790 29 дней назад
7th day Sabbath - Yes. Feast days (which involve earthly priests, sacrifices, a Jerusalem temple, pointing forward to Jesus and required circumcision to keep them) - No.
@mikekayanderson408
@mikekayanderson408 14 дней назад
The Apostles themselves changed from the Saturday sabbath to the first day of the week to meet and worship together -= Sunday so we follow them. I believe Jesus is our Sabbath rest. We rest in Him. Sunday is a day of worship. When you think of it - the Apostles and the believers in that time would have still had to work on the first day of the week. Not being Jews any longer but Christians they would not have participated in the Friday night into Saturday sabbath. I could be very wrong but this is how I see it. Many Protestant churches still refer to Sunday as the Sabbath. But when did a Sunday become a holiday? The feast days belonged to the Old Covenant as a shadow pointing to Christ who fulfilled them - so we do not follow those as we have Christ now. I agree we should not have Easter or Christmas. They were not instituted by the Apostles but by the Catholic Church and tradition. Not biblical.
@revelation1790
@revelation1790 13 дней назад
@mikekayanderson408 The apostles never wrote that there was any change. The 7th day Sabbath was a strong tradition for the Jews. Paul, in Acts 24:5-6 when accused before Felix by the Jews did not have any Sabbath charge against him. In Acts 25:8, Paul affirms he had not offended against the law of the Jews. So there is Biblical evidence that Paul, towards the end of his life, had not changed to another day. 1, 2, and 3 John, among the last epistles to be written, say nothing of a change of day, but rather 1 John 2:6 the believers are instructed to live (walk) as Christ lived (walked), and we know He was keeping the 7th day Sabbath.

@HearGodsWord here is where I'm coming from.... I believe I have been set free from sin cuz I believe Scripture to be true and accurate and while I have been railroaded into folks claiming I'm only saved cuz I was born in a Christian family in the USA or I have been deceived into thinking that I am cuz I'm trying to earn grace by doing good deeds and thinking that I'm trying to work enough good to overcome bad. While I see that faith without deeds is dead and works without faith are like dirty rags... and when it comes to Scripture...I'm told I either know it in my head...but not in my heart.... or that I am emotional and that I'm not thinking rationally....OR that I'm thinking with a carnal reasoning as opposed to divine reasoning... While I've been labeled anointed to zealous and other words in-between by those I'm not "like minded" with.... I see there are lots of critics and while we are told to take every thought captive and encourage each other in the faith...(not just faith in faith itself...but THE faith of trusting Jesus at His Word) Seems a lot of fun when most conversations are surface level and when it comes to beliefs (even demons have them)... we all seem to be divided over who has faith and who doesn't and how that faith is achieved...or accepted as a gift...or whether we always had faith and we just trusted other things..... I can see why some people just walk away from even having conversations and maybe even the faith in general. And of course the thought whether verbalized or not....is.. I guess they were never saved to begin with...or are being hardened by God as to have an answer for someone who just isn't showing the fruit of someone being properly assessed by a flawed human who is supposed to judge "rightly". While my intent was to not throw shade back and trying to trap for "no good reason" ....my intent is to bring a sword to the iron sharpening iron...as opposed to a feather duster to tickle ears. I've seen lately that most people consider someone challenging their world view (however influenced by the culture more than the Holy Spirit that guides us in all truth..) as being persecuted.... Not trying to be divisive.....but to bring things up that I've experienced in my walk with JESUS. God's Only Son Permits Eternal Life! 😇🙏💪

If you are going to assert that the reformation was a revival of Biblical preaching, you probably haven't read the 95 theses carefully. Here are theses 16-19 where Luther affirms purgatory: 16. Hell, purgatory, and heaven seem to differ the same as despair, fear, and assurance of salvation. 17. It seems as though for the souls in purgatory fear should necessarily decrease and love increase. 18. Furthermore, it does not seem proved, either by reason or by Scripture, that souls in purgatory are outside the state of merit, that is, unable to grow in love. 19. Nor does it seem proved that souls in purgatory, at least not all of them, are certain and assured of their own salvation, even if we ourselves may be entirely certain of it. You've probably been propagandized by reformation-biased historical revisionists that Luther was against indulgences. Luther was against obligatory indulgences, as he states in thesis 47: 47. Christians are to be taught that they buying of indulgences is a matter of free choice, not commanded. Around the 8:30 mark of the video the speaker said that, once he was saved, Luther would become more confrontational. Here is a sample of what may be considered the more confrontational Luther: "When Judas hanged himself, so that his guts ripped, and as happens to those that are hanged, his bladder burst, then the Jews had their golden cans and silver bowls ready, to catch the Judas piss...and afterwards together they ate the sh!t and drank..." What a blessing! Concerning the Roman Catholic Church, no attempt is made to defend the undefendable. But with respect to the narrative of Protestant - good/ Catholic - bad narrative, let's review the reformation in England. A fat king wants to trade in his wife for a newer model and asks the Pope's permission. The Pope said no, and in this instance the Pope was right. So Henry starts his own state church and chops off the head of many honorable dissenters, including Sir Thomas More. You folks who cherry pick your particulars to prop up your own preferred historical narrative, sorry about being a turd in the punchbowl with inconvenient facts.

@@HearGodsWord The connection between the two issues is expressed in Johann Tetzel’s infamous sales pitch: “When in the coffer the coin rings, out of purgatory the soul springs.” In his famous 95 Theses, Martin Luther was directly attacking indulgences and, by good and necessary inference, he was also fomenting against the “unbiblical fiction” Rome called purgatory.

Some historians have argued that Luther, because he did not directly deny the existence of purgatory in the theses, may have been in solidarity with Rome on the issue. Luther, who busied himself during the early portion of his career articulating and defending justification by faith, continued to develop doctrinally and later made clear his opposition to purgatory in a series of lectures on Genesis that commenced in 1535. Purgatory, Luther argued, is not only unbiblical, but undermines the doctrine of salvation sola fide, sola gratia, solo Christos. Luther wrote that Purgatory is the greatest falsehood because it is based on ungodliness and unbelief; for they deny that faith saves, and they maintain that satisfaction for sins is the cause of salvation. Therefore he who is in purgatory is in hell itself; for these are his thoughts: ‘I am a sinner and must render satisfaction for my sins; therefore I shall make a will and shall bequeath a definite amount of money for building churches and for buying prayers and sacrifices for the dead by the monks and priests.’ Such people die in a faith in works and have no knowledge of Christ. Indeed, they hate Him. We die in faith in Christ, who died for our sins and rendered satisfaction for us. He is my Bosom, my Paradise, my Comfort, and my Hope. One will search the Scriptures in utter futility to find such a doctrine, he argued. Thus, Luther concludes, it is a doctrine conjured up from the depths of hell itself: Of purgatory there is no mention in Holy Scripture; it is a lie of the devil, in order that the papists may have some market days and snares for catching money. . . We deny the existence of a purgatory and of a limbo of the fathers in which they say that there is hope and a sure expectation of liberation. But these are figments of some stupid and bungling sophist.
