Most DANGEROUS Hike in the World? Huashan Plank Walk

Even though we were short on time, we were determined to do the Huashan Plank Walk. Busses, cable cars, long steep hikes and an impossibly slow line stood between us and the hike but somehow we still made it to our train in time! Hope you have fun joining us as we do one of the deadliest hikes in the world.

I'm glad to see and experience this walk on video because there is NO WAY you would get me to actually walk on those planks. I watched with my knees trembling and my hands sweating. At one stage I realised I had stopped breathing. how people can put themselves through things like that is beyond me. Having said that, I say thank you to the young lady for having the courage to film the walk so that I could at least have the thrill without the danger.

I'm chinese, This mountain is definitely the most dangerous mountain open for tourist in china, it just like lots of Rock of Gibraltar combined together with countless steep cliffs.Most of the handrails and stairs are constructed recently in this century for concern about safety, my high school teacher told me when he climbed in 1980s there was little safe measures, tourists literally climb with foot and hand on the rock with no handrail on both sides.This mountain is a shrine for taosim believer, Taoism tradition believe that god resides in some unreachable mountain like there

I was there couple years ago, and the “hotel” up there was so expensive that I decided to sleep on a big rock, in the morning when I woke up, I realized that rock is part of the cliff, couldn’t even see the bottom of it. In the night, you could see the Milky Way up there and constant shooting stars passing by, it was breathtaking, during the summer, it’s unbearably hot on the ground, but it was actually freaking cold up there in the night

Did the Milky Way iluminate you the long lost Huashan sword stances? You might sleep on the rock where the Grandmasters of Huashan used to cultivate their Huashan sword stances (kungfu). Huashan sword stances can make you fly, the plank just part of the training. Imagine, you need to go by it everyday to your training place, you can fly eventually. Legend.

The plank walk doesn't look so bad with the harness and double retention. What looks bad is the exhausting hike up there followed by the long wait in the cold at altitude. The combo of tiredness, dehydration and lowered core temp could make someone mentally fuzzy whilst on the plank walk, leading to tragedy. Great work showing the pathway to the attraction and great work getting to your train on time.

Great video, brought back many memories when we went two plus years ago! We also waited over two hours before making it to the plank walk. The “no striding” actually means no climbing over the chain. One person in our group somehow dropped one shoe down the side of the mountain, better tie your shoe laces on tight! Oh and I think they may have started the fingerprint requirement after someone committed suicide by jumping off the plank walk a few years back. I assume it became a requirement because it’s an extra way to identify someone in case that were to ever happen again. Keep up the good work and thanks for bringing us along your adventures

"No Watching When Walking" I can kinda guess what the sign was originally saying in Chinese, must have been something like "Don't stop and look around when climbing the stairs", since it's a narrow staircase and if one stops and looks at the scenery or strikes a pose and takes a selfie etc, it would hold up everyone behind him and that's wasting everybody else's time who's trying to get to the top. The Chinese must have pulled the translation from Google Translate or something so it turned out so weird
@terranrepublic7023
@terranrepublic7023 4 года назад
Same goes for the "No Striding" sign, it actually says something like "Don't Go Beyond" or "Don't Go Over" in the original text, which is a warning sign telling you not to go over those chains because, well you would fall off a cliff. It's just poor translation, the word "striding" which means taking a long step in English, when said in Chinese also implies "to go over/across" something (The Chinese actually use this word for Hurdles, since they run and jump over hurdles and each jump is essentially like a very long stride, well kind of...), and they didn't consult any professional translator when making this sign so they just assumed it would imply the same thing in English, thus the funny result.

Have you worked with the Chinese language much? To English ears, it is missing Prepositions and adverbs which to an English speakers sounds child-like. I promise you the sign would not have "look around" that just is not Mandarin
@-jay2872

@@wweeks Warnings in China are usually very brief, so it is misunderstood to translate into English.

@@wweeks Very interesting, what would you propose to put on a sign to convey the message of, now this is just what I picture in my mind: something like "The staircase is not an observation deck, please do not linger" to ward off selfie fanatics. Because "No Watching When Walking" makes no sense to me, how do you walk if you don't watch (where you're going)?

Great video, the scenery was breath taking! So what I learned from this video before attempting these excursions, was that it's best to be in top shape, bring layered clothing, give yourself at least 24 to 48 hours in between these excursions before a flight to catch breath, relax and enjoy. I would like to add a couple of tips, especially in China. I found that traveling about a week before huge holidays like National Day or Chinese New Year Festival is perfect if you want to avoid people and, like Claire mentioned, travel early. I personally like to arrive first thing in the morning even if it's just before they open the parks. I value my sanity and peace. Also, you can actually take lots of pictures of scenery before people start arriving. And of course, travel as light as possible!
