Because she doesn’t work at the ranch, she has her own career. But also, I think he desperately wants a bond with his family but everyone of his grown kids looks tired, beaten up, mad or… always mad lol.. but Beth not only stirs the pot, she’s angry the second she sits down before John can just say a word. She is sarcastic and condescending and vulgar. She just can’t relax herself and just enjoy. And when she gets scolded by “daddy”, to stop being vulgar, she gets mad, at anyone who tells her to knock it off, she leaves the dinner table and puts herself in time out. Rip loves her so much, but puts her in her place, and she listens to him.

She has a point: John doesn't anyone talking about work at the dinner table and he asks how was your day. It's like he's promoting cognitive dissonance. Nothing seems to please him. She's also right when she said they have to pretend they are the family they are not. Beth doesn't like faking.
