Fantastic instruction coach. I find, with my long skinny arms, that the calf / Achilles slice from the grip sometimes does the job before the ankle or foot are in jeopardy. I'm sure of course that won't be the case in competition, though.

Yeah still effective in competition! But, probably harder to tear most people’s calves than pop their ankle!

If you are a white belt or even a blue belt take it easy with the ankle lock attack. Your training partners have to be able to go to work in the morning. A white belt ripping an ankle lock with the intention of breaking their training partners foot won’t have a good reputation. Just be careful.
