Most Embarrassing Lesson Ever! *Exposed* 

Some tips for Sophie: If your horse gets heavy in the mouth get lighter...If you don’t give them anything to lean against they can’t, never use both hands to pull straight back. If I pulled like Sophie did in this video (she is in background) I would be taken off my horse immediately. Half halts and shorten stride are your best friends. They should be happening all the time. 1. Don’t be afraid to circle when Finn is “taking off” 2. don’t be afraid to actually push him on for a few strides instead of using reins. 3. Don’t be afraid to squeeze with your knees for just a moment when Finn is rushing/heavy/out of balance. 4. Look up (like wayyy up) and sit back without pulling on reins. Dressage lessons for a while might really really help. Sophie reminds me a lot of myself as a young rider and I wish I only knew 1/2 what I do now. I ride a very forward 1800 pound draft in a loose ring snaffle, I’ve learned all this tips over the course of 5 years with him and they REALLY help. Sophie you are a great rider and Finn is an awesome horse, I love his jump too. Challenge yourself to ride in soft contact all the time :) Two emotions in the saddle, sense of humor and patience. You’ve got this ❤️

Why has sophia's horse such a sharp bit? She doesn't have the soft hands that it needs. If the horse was to fast for her, you begin again with the basics and NOTput in a sharper bit!

Brandon should do every time they don’t listen or do something wrong he takes a piece of tack away each time.

Laura you were telling gabby to be quiet and that she’s not the coach but i really think you should take your own advice cause she’s only done that once from what we see and you do it every lesson

Sophie needs to remember when she sits down in the saddle to canter she needs to bend her knees and keep them underneath her, really focus on the basics. It wouldn’t hurt to have a lunge lesson or two to get you really stable with that leg and seat.

I was going to say for Sophie when your sit trotting or cantering, suck you stomach muscles in it will help you stick in the saddle. I learned it at a lesson one day. Also their are reins that are velcro and the gloves stick to them so they dont slid back.

I had to do no stirrups at my lesson the other day, Sophie, try to think that your ankles are anchors when doing no stirrups, it looks like you are pinching the saddle with your knees, it helps you sit in your seat deeper, and you are less likely to fall off if you do that. Also, when cantering, sit back more, and give Finn more rein, you are pulling on him which might be why he was not cantering. Great Job otherwise! (its these little things that different people get from trainers that turn us into better riders🥰)

I dont mean to sound rude or anything but sophie needs to loosen her reigns a bit cause Sophie's telling finn to canter but if she's got her reigns to tight finn would be like am I cantering or am I trotting. Then finn would be so confused on what sophie is telling him what to do. But anyway I love your channel and you guys are amazing and I love you guys .

Ha ha, Brandaan certainly has a mischievous streak 🤣 I think you were right to point out Sophia’s loose chin strap Laura, it definitely should be tighter, however you might have to actually make her do it as she didn’t and it really could help her helmet from coming off if she had a fall 😊👍I know Sophia loves her jumping and I can understand why, Finn is such a willing pony and quick with his feet and forward going, however I do also agree with Brandaan, it would really benefit Sophia to concentrate on her flat work in terms of her position etc. I could see that she was trying hard in this lesson and so now it really is putting in the practice and building on her core strength and improving those riding muscles 👍 So nice to see everyone laughing and enjoying themselves 😊

There’s really something about the way Gabby rides - she has an elegance you don’t often see in kids her age. I think that if she continues going the way she is and she stays serious and focused that she could do some amazing things. She is incredible for being so young. I think we’ll hear a lot about her in the years to come. There’s something really special about that kid Laura 🥰

kind of a silly question, but since you and Sam edit the videos Im curious; does Sophie watch video of herself riding? could help her see her mistakes if she doesnt. Thats mainly why I started my channel, was for myself to watch my own riding lessons and see what others see when I ride, and use it to fix myself in the next lesson! On a side note; my trainer made us do no-stirrup 2-point yesterday so I wouldve GLADLY done no stirrup canter work instead 🤣

That lesson looked so fun, I do think Sophie needs to work on her canter without lightseat/twopointing tho because she doesn’t do it ever so that’s why she’s bouncing and unbalanced, not hate, but I really think it’ll help her riding ☺️

Hello day by day vlogs I just wanted to say how much I love watching your lessons! Sometimes I even work on the things you do in your lessons when I go to ride my horse!

Also I used to have a horse that acted like Finn and what I did was half halt my inside rein you should try it so half halt inside rein and inside leg but you can try it might not help.

omg i LOVE you guys more than you could imagine, I might be flying down to Canada soon and I would love to meet up with you guys and do something fun !!! i am 12 years old and i have been a equestrian for about 7 to 8 years !! i lease a horse named alibi and he is a 4 year old OTTB. I just started to lease and ride him so we are still getting used to each other. i have been doing the hunters and I jump around 2”3 to 2”6. You guys make me feel like who i am and make me feel so special. i truly love you guys!💗

Laura you are the most positive people I know and I haven't met you but you seem really kind and love watching your kids progress so much every lesson

Tips for Sophie, take a riding crop and put it behind your back and hold it there with your arms while you ride, this will help you push your chest and core forward and taller and keep your shoulders back, you can also take some baling twine or string and tie your stirrups to your girth to help steady your leg. A basic Dressage lesson might be beneficial for you too, riding with longer stirrups and a much deeper seat will give you a better feel of how your body is moving and help you feel what Brandon is trying to teach you about keeping your upper body taller. Your doing great Sophie keep up the good work. x

A quick tip for Sophia to help Finn relax when he gets quick. I find that a nice deep breath goes a long way. Once my thoroughbred mare took off with me and just wouldn’t stop no matter what I did. About 5 minutes later I finally took a deep breath and she started trotting. (To be honest sometimes I need to remember this myself.)

Monty my pony pulled a shoe today so I can’t ride tomorrow and I was going to have a private lesson :(. I went to my first show a couple of weeks ago and I got second place in the hunters! I didn’t place in the flat classes though :(. But yeah I thought that the second place was decent for my first ever show! I am so jealous of your relationship with your trainer. I mean I am friends with my trainer but not in the same way as you are with Brandan. Great video guys!

Today was my birthday I turned 14, I'm applying for a job I think tomorrow lol. I really want to buy my own horse without my parents because I want to be independent and not have to rely on them!! Hopefully it turns out good for me:) love you guys!!

A trick I learned to get my balance and use my leg was to imagine the reins are behind your upper back so when you want to slow down lift from your back. It really works. Btw Sophie has come so far. Proud of you guys!

It’s about to be our 5 year anniversary together as well

Hey Shophie! I love you and Finn! Maybe durning your month of flat work you could work on getting your leg further back behind your girth. It would really help your canter and would make it easier to use your leg in canter!

I don’t know if this will help with him Sophie and fin but The horse I ride is very fast like fin and this might help so Sophie when she’s pulling back to stop him from cantering even though you really just wanna pool even harder and not get any releases you need to give like a little release you need to give them like a 1 to 3 release and then a little more because they’ll just get more anxious if you keep pulling more I understand Sophie so much because the horse I Ride is so much like Finn ‘Hope I helps 😀
